I did this assignment to go along with the secret agent theme of the class. I liked the black and white background, as it was mysterious, and I picked the red font so it would pop. Plus, the red reminds me of lasers a secret agent would use.

My first visual assignment for this week was the 4-star “Camp Poster”. The really, really cool thing about the photo background?? It’s meeeeee! I took a shield-making class at the Virginia Institute of Blacksmithing last February, and the jewelery-making teacher came around and took photos of everyone. In this photo, I’m hammering out the handle for the back of my shield. The end is glowing because I just took it out of my forge.
I chose blacksmith camp as my poster because I LOVED it. Seriously, if I could go and get certified as a blacksmith in my free time, I would (technically, I could, but it would take more time and money than I have). I wish I had done this as a kid. Therefore, BLACKSMITH CAMP was created!
The dates were chosen pretty randomly; I figured five days in the middle of summer, with a registration date far enough away that supplies could be gathered and everything. I thought of the tagline “Create swords, shields, and other items that won’t be allowed in the house (after this, neither will you!)” pretty easily; you get So. Freaking. Dirty. I was legit COVERED in coal dust, even after the first day of just doing cold work. The two days I used the forge? My mother made me scrub down before I entered the house. Also where the “Want to get your hands dirty?” question comes from.
The photo I chose because the world absolutely revolves around me. I found it on Facebook and opened it in PhotoDirector. I really wanted to make the lettering pop, so I decided after much tinkering to blur out the background (also! I found the blur tool! so that was cool). However, it almost was too blurry? The background didn’t say or mean anything. So, I found the un!blur tool and un-blurred myself. I tried to emphasize the action of the photo by unblurring specifically my hands through the anvil. Text was done once more through the watermark tool- still not sure if there’s any other way to do it? It worked.
Honestly, I actually love the way this turned out. I would 100% go to this camp.
I choose to do the camp poster assignment in the visual category and it was worth 4 stars! It asked for me to create a summer camp I wish I could have gone to when I was a child and I would have loved to gone away to camp in a national park but luckily I was able to travel with my parents and visit them that way! I used snapchat and another app to create this.
For my second assignment I choose to create a dream home/room on pinterest which is also 4 stars! I think pinterest can be related to this weeks discussion as many people people pin to tell a story about what they have created in their home or their latest trip abroad. So I have decided to share my tiny house board with everyone. I would love a tiny house in the future as a second home somewhere rustic and in the middle of nowhere. As for my tiny house I would like to have it built custom with a full size bath and an inclosed bedroom. Large windows would also be a must!

I this visual assignment Creating Camp Posters (4 stars) I learned how to take poster making to the next level. This poster is special because I am created for my story. First I googled “space” pictures using google.
I then took a screenshot and of the image, and opened it into iphoto so I could crop it.
After cropping it ,
I opened up “Gimp” so I can edit and put the font on the poster. The end result was this stunning picture. This picture is going to be for my story buddy the dolphin fines a flyer at the dock one day and he decides that he really wants a great adventure that is unordinary.
Are we there yet? I think I really just did to many stars this week I think that I am actually seeing stars right now. This post is the 4 star challenge something like the bucket challenge I guess. For the “Challenge me” I decided to create a camp poster for this Visual Assignment (4 stars).
To me it did not hold much excitement I don’t know if it is because it is the end of the week and I just have had all I can take, or I am just getting bored with the class (I hope it is not the later because I feel this class has a lot to offer me).
So this time I was some what attentive to to taking picture while I was doing the steps. But, first the back story (which is way more interesting then the poster itself). So this comes from a memory of a long time ago when I was around 17 or 18 years of age. I was for some reason really into basketball at the time so a series of even led me to the adventure of play basketball for parks and rec (because we where homeschool we did’t play sports at the school because if we did we would have to take at lest one class and my mum didn’t want that for us). Anyway, as time progressed I became obsessed and I thought I was decent enough (which was not true I later found out years later) to receive a scholarship. So, I begged my mum to put me in a camp so she decided to put me in a highschool camp. The highschool was Colonial Forge in Stafford needless to say I really hated that basketball camp. I was always picked last because no one knew who I was and I was not that great. I was also most of the time confused because there were so many people there as I write this I think this is one of the first times in my life that I did feel missed placed and not sure of myself. I don’t think that is a bad think but probably had more effect on me then is normal. Anyway, thats a pretty long story about the poster here’s how I made the poster:
I first opened google and searched “Free basketball downloadable images” (Always make sure to put “Free” or you will pay I am glad I don’t have personal experience with that). I found the perfect on and downloaded to my computer ( I chose this one because it had a basketball bursting through the wall to symbolize how great the game could be for people):
I then did my old routine of uploading into iphoto and cropping it (I really don’t think there is a better way of cropping is there?):
I then uploaded the photo into “Gimp” (See, gimp is my new “go-to” editing application I am not sure how to feel about it. I think I am feeling like “Know that I know better I do will do better” which translates know that I have “Gimp” Photoflexer is just ancient). The picture below is a shot of me opening the photo in a layer
I had to add an additional layer because the wording kept not adjusting properly on the original layer. As I am still figuring out “Gimp” it tool me time to figure out which lettering worked best with the poster and which colors did’t blend in with the background. Thinking about it know if I had a do over I probably would pick another image because my vision was that the lettering of the word “Eagles” would be like a forest green and the smaller lettering at the bottom to be a black color. I would want this because the word “Eagle” would draw the eye and the smaller lettering would have less of an effect on the eye.
As you can see in this picture I decided to go with the lime color, I did so all the information would be visible. As you can see in the finish product below that this is just another ordinary poster, but to me it is an ordinary poster with a lot of memories attached to it
I then saved it as I normally do no complications at all:
I like this program because it is very helpful what do I mean by that (maybe I should have said that it was smart)? well every time I try to save it it try’s to save it in a different type of file (I guess it pre set to save as a funkie extension like fxc.) It box pops up and recommends that I switch prompts I love it ..I love it…I love it. What is a Fxc extension anyway ?
9 year-old Isabella LOVES and ADORES her chickens. They aren’t just her pets, they are her very best friends! Every afternoon, Isabella goes outside to talk and play with her chickens. There isn’t anything in this world that makes Isabella happier than her pet chickens do. Look at that smile! Can’t you see how happy she is ?!
One tuesday afternoon as Isabella was walking home from school, she came across a camp flyer that caught her attention. The flyer was announcing a weekend camp for individuals and their pets. Since the flyer said all pets – all ages, Isabella knew this would be the perfect weekend getaway for her and her pet chickens. As a result of watching a ton of Dora the Explorer, Isabella decided she would go on this journey alone along with her chickens. Since Isabella is only 9 years old… her only method of getting there was to walk.
She was so excited for this upcoming adventure ! As soon as she got home with the flyer, Isabella ran to her camcorder to record a home video. The excitement and love that Isabella has for her pet chickens can obviously be seen in this home video.
The very next day, Isabella packed a light backpack and prepped her chickens for departure. Despite all of the Dora the Explorer episode that Isabella has watched, she still forgot to pack a map and plan her route. Not realizing that the flyer was missing an address, Isabella inevitably set out on a journey to no where. After hours and hours of walking alongside her best friends, the chickens, Isabella ran out of stories to share with them. This… is the moment when Isabella realized her mistakes! The problem is that her realization came a little too late. Isabella was now in the middle of a hot, steamy, dry desert. The deserts environment were starting to take a toll on Isabella. She began to hallucinate and see things that were not there. As her hunger grew, she began to see the chickens, whom were once her best friends… as barbecue drumsticks!
Due to the fact that Isabella was not in her right mind state, for the first time EVER… she seriously began contemplating EATING her chickens. Could she really be able to carry out this crazy crazy idea? Would the hunger get the best of her?
Isabella thought long and hard about this. As the hours went by and the sun began to set, her hunger increasingly grew. She was beginning to feel weak and realized that she needed food as soon as possible if she was going to find her way back home. After much contemplation… THIS IS ALL THAT WAS LEFT OF ISABELLA’S PET CHICKENS!
With her new found energy, Isabella found her way home. This is the last home recording made by Isabella that was ever found…
For the assignment, I had to create a poster for a camp I went to. To incorporate my character and Sophia’s character, Rose, I decided to create a little backstory for the friendship hinted at in our Radio Show. When we were younger, Rose and I both attended archery camp and became quick friends. Rose quickly realized how good she was at archery and is likely using some of that skill now, as an outlaw. I was never very good at archery, so while I still have my bow and arrow, I don’t bring them out very often. Here’s the poster for our camp!
(note: it looks a little blurry because my original was fairly small so I made it a little larger/easier to see here)
Just kidding! But there is a new ad up for a new camp out in Tombstone, Arizona! That’s right! Two of the Gals of the West have teamed up to put on a summer camp filled with blasting bullets and having a great time. Sally (aka Shot) and Angus both have teamed up with their saloon, Tumbleweed, to put on a camp that teaches you how to shoot. It has basic gun safety lessons, what ammo for what gun and cleaning care as well as having a couple drinks on the house. This camp is perfect for beginners to experts alike and will sure to be a week to remember (unless you drink a lot, then maybe not so much.)
This was worth 3.5 stars.
This week I chose to complete this visual assignment. This assignment required me to create a visual/poster to advertise a type of camp that I enjoyed when I was younger. As such, when I was younger I loved horses and I was able to attend many horse riding camps. But, one of the requirements for this week was to incorporate western characters that have been created in our class. As such, I chose two cowgirls from our western characters, Talie and Agnus. You can read more about Talie here and more about Agnus here. They live in the same town and both love to ride horses. So, they formed a horse riding camp that will take place on Talie’s ranch. As such, for this assignment I created a poster to advertise their horse riding camp titled, The Wild West Riding Camp! To create this poster I used www.canva.com. I first chose a format I liked, then I added the text and altered the font and size. I then uploaded an image of two cowgirls riding horses onto the poster to represent Talie and Agnus. Next, I adjusted the color scheme to try to express the rustic Wild West feel. I hope this advertisement would entice you to join Talie and Agnus’s riding camp!
This visual assignment was worth three and a half stars.
