ds106 Assignments: Combophoto

So this is another step in my photoshop journey. But I didn’t exactly use photoshop. Yes, I returned to my old best friend, google doc. Maybe it is my very limited understanding of Photopea, the software I used in a previous visual assignment, but I needed to do simple things that Google Docs let me do easily. Photopea wouldn’t let me rotate the photo and got mad at the sizes of it all, so I fell back to well-known waters.

I chose an idea based on the fact that I wanted the two things to have a specific point of juncture. So, a tree and a bone.

I found this photo of a tree, I wanted one with a color that was kind of like bone, and this fit.

Then I found this deer bone, also a color that I thought would kind of fit. It was a bonus that the background was blue, not exactly like the sky in the tree photo, but close enough to not be too contrasting.

I used the function on google docs that can put an image behind the text to put the tree behind the bone. With a little movement, I got this.

Then to clean it up, I cut out a swatch of the blue from the background of the bone and added it.

And there is the final version!

I know every photo is a story, and I have no idea what this story is, but I think it is interesting anyway.

Combophoto

Splicing two pictures together really led me down a weird path on this assignment. I created a brand new instrument, the Acoustic Squashtar™. I pondered for a bit, wondering what two items I could splice together and I immediately knew I wanted to turn something into a guitar. So I took the neck of an acoustic guitar and thought of what “acoustic-shaped” objects existed. I found a great picture of a squash and knew I hit gold. I used my photoshop app to cut off the body of the guitar and the stem of the squash. I then positioned them on top of one another to create a masterpiece. this assignment was a fun expression of creativity and challenging use of photoshop.

Combophoto

This particular assignment involved splicing a pair of pictures together to make one single image, however, I took my own artistic liberties and ran with this assignment. I decided to make my dream animal by combining my 3 favorite animals into one beautiful creature. I had to really dig deep in my memory bank to be able to pull this assignment together because it has been a few semesters since I really worked in depth with Adobe Photoshop but it was a nice refresher course so to speak.
I introduce you to my creation: cow body, cat legs, and dog tail.

This assignment took me longer because I am still getting the hang of photoshopping pictures. This one is really random but I picked a girl playing volleyball but decided to replace the ball with a picture of it raining cats and dogs. Again, not sure what made me pick these pictures but it was fun making it!

Sunset 2

This assignment I did is called Combophoto where you must take splices of photos and put them into a single photo. I took the following two pictures below, and I put them together. However, I split the first photo into two halves before putting both photos together, so this was a total of three photo splices being put into a single picture. I then combined them all together to form the third picture below, and I did all of this using an app on my iPhone called Photofox. I enjoyed this assignment, it wasn’t too hard, and it was a lot of fun. Take a look at my work below.

There’s a toad in my Spaghett

Behind the Story: For this project I knew I wanted to incorporate one of the toad pictures my girlfriend has taken while she was at work. I also knew exactly which tool I was going to use in order to complete this assignment. Adobe Photoshop. I have had previous experience with Adobe Photoshop, but all my past encounters were guided by an instructor for a class assignment. This was the first time I attempted to use Photoshop without any aid. In my personal opinion the image turned out OK, but I know that the lighting could have been adjusted more to make it more believable.

Narrating the Process: Since my girlfriend and I were having spaghetti for lunch and was using it for another VisualAssignment, I decided to use it for the combo-photo. It took me a bit to remember how to take the toad out of the original photo but once I had used the quick selection tool I remembered that I had to turn it into a mask. Once I turned the toad into a mask all I had to do was drag it onto the spaghetti image. Thanks to the free transform feature(Ctrl+T) I was able to adjust the size of the toad because the toad alone ended up being bigger than the whole spaghetti image.

Strawberry Finch

I photo-shopped a bird into some ice cream (it turned out pretty OK!)

Ocean Sunset

This assignment I chose is called Combophoto where you are suppose to splice two photos together using photo editing software.

Here are the two photos that I spliced together.

Then here is the finished product.

I chose this assignment because enjoy editing photos and trying to combine photos that I think might look better together than they do separately. I was easily able to achieve this product by using a photo editing app on my iPad called Enlight Photofox. These pictures I spliced together where pictures that I took while I was on vacation in CancĂșn this summer. I chose these two pictures because the deep blue ocean is gorgeous, and the sunset is beautiful, and it made me feel like I was on vacation again. Also, I thought that they would look great together, and it turns out I was right because the final product turned out great. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment. It was not too hard, and it was an easy way to be creative.

The Marksman in Action

Combophoto (3 stars)

For this assignment it said to put two pictures together to make one single picture. This assignment is where I decided to bring my character, Clyde Roberts a.k.a The Marksman into the picture. LITERALLY… Except for this assignment I decide to disclose what Mr. Roberts looks like because I still haven’t really decided what I want him to look like yet. But anyways, when I was thinking about this assignment I wanted to get a picture of something random but extreme, so I chose a plane that was flying about the atmosphere, just about in outer space. With that I decided to add a black outline of an image of a man (Mr. Roberts) on the top of the plane as he is getting ready for entrance into the plane to take out his next target!
