Google Draw Something

This was a very cool assignment. Daniel did a great job finding this and making it into an assignment. It really made me think more than I ever have about how computers work and where computer science could go. I also liked how when you turn the volume on, there is a voice reading what the Google AI thinks you’re drawing. It would probably have been easier if I had a stylus, a touch-screen, or even a mouse instead of having to hold my finger down on a track pad and make a decent drawing in 20 seconds, but it was a lot of fun, and I spent way too much time on it!

Website Storytelling

Archives

This was an interesting  assignment for me. Changing the design of a webpage without changing the original? Not exactly something I’ve ever done before! However, after I downloaded X-Ray Goggles and did some playing around, it ended being kind’ve fun. All the advice I found said to use  simple sites like an Amazon sale page or a Craigslist add so thats where I started. I decided it would be fun to sell goats on Craigslist. I found a very basic from the Athens, Georgia area and created a crazy little story. I kept the original pictures (those babies are adorable!) but changed the title, price, map dot location and the actual ad description. Without really knowing what I was doing or how I was even doing it, I created a fake ad on a real page!

here is the link to the original:

and here’s a screen shot from the finished product:

It may not look like much but I was pretty proud of myself ?

What Kind of Spy are You?

This assignment was pretty fun. I had done something similar before but this one is now connected to the spy theme. This one predicts what sort of spy you are, either a badass or a weird one. The badass being more like Jason Bourne and the weird one is equal to Johnny English.  The quiz may be found here.

The more and more I do this stuff I’m surprised with how difficult it is to come up with some quality questions and answers. On the surface it seems very easy and straightforward. Just ask some questions right? Well since it is going on Buzzfeed the questions need to have some sort of fun factor, plus the answer choices can’t be boring either. But with enough head scratching I eventually figured something out.

The layout is pretty easy to follow and has directions each step of the way. The hardest part is being creative and to me that doesn’t really come naturally.

Google Draw Something

This is a game on google that is similar to Draw Something. You attempt to draw a picture that you’re told to and Google will guess it if the picture is accurate enough! This was really surprising to me because it worked so well.

Here’s the game.

Wanderlust and Day Dreams

What is a vacation? I haven’t had a real one in so long! However, I’ve always wanted to travel to southern Europe and the Mediterranean coast and this assignment was the perfect excuse to do a little research/planning. I love all the things you can find on Pinterest and boy did I get a lot of ideas! Unfortunately….I’m pretty sure it would take me about a year to do everything I want to do there!

Ideally, I would start out in Moracco, hit Portugal and Spain, then travel along the coasts of France, Italy and Greece, then sailing across and spending some time in Egypt! I know Egypt wouldn’t generally fall into this type of tour but Ancient Egypt has always fascinated me and I would to explore the pyramids!

Not only would this trip be long, but it would cost a heck of a lot of money! I would probably be able to at least function in the Spanish speaking countries but there would be a huge language barrier in some of the other countries. My dream vacation is basically unobtainable unless I come into quite a large amount of money but its fun to dream! Plus, It could definitely be broken down into shorter trips if I could manage to prioritize and actually make decisions about the places/things that I want to see the most. Check out my Pinterest board and dream travel right along with me!

Let’s Take a Trip!

Create Your Own Dream Room

These photos ebrace elements of what I want my dream room to be like! I like lighter colors like white, light pink, and gray because they are clean colors and I like the way those colors are in the sunlight. To add onto that, I would like wonderful, large windows to let light in. I want curtains on the windows. I would like a chandelier in my room because it adds ambiance and its a little something different than a normal light and fan. I like string lights also that ambiance. I would like a nice nightstand and dresser that are white and I would have lamps for some light and flowers because I think that is fresh and feminine. I love mirrors so I will probably have a full-sized mirror as well as one above my dresser. I won’t have a TV in my room because I’ve never had one and I don’t want to start bad habits of staying p late and watching TV!

Pikachu Ketchum

I had a blast creating Pikachu’s résumé especially because I literally grew up with Pokémon and Pikachu was my favorite. At first, I did not know what to write because I never thought about Pikachu having a job. Because Pokémons are similar to pets, we don’t usually think of them as having any jobs other than just living. I then started to write the ones I can think of relatively easier such as skills and accolades. As I researched for Pikachu’s timeline, I realized that Pikachu has been with Ash forever. This meant that Pikachu held a duty to be a leader amongst rest of Ash’s Pokémons. Thinking like that got me going and I eventually ended up having a blast completing Pikachu’s résumé! I was so happy to revisit my childhood. =)

Google Draw Something

The Google Draw Something assignment was definitely one of my favorites so far. I love messing around with neural networks, especially Google’s experiments (like their dream image generator). It’s actually a really cool feeling to have fun and mess around while actually contributing to science and technology. It didn’t get all of them right, but it was really hilarious to see all of the weird suggestions Google had for what I was drawing (multiple times it guessed a potato or the Great Wall of China). It couldn’t guess that I drew a bench, though. It’s still really interesting how Google will let you see others’ drawings of benches that it bases its guesses on and what it thought your drawing was. It thought my bench could have been a couch, which is amazing, because any person might have guessed that too. I could go on. This reminded me a lot of Vsauce’s DONGs (stuff to Do Online Now, Guys), and it was really cool.
