I choose to do this assignment http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/create-your-dream-vacation-on-pinterest/  which was worth 3 ½ stars. This assignment was to Create a Pinterest Board of my Dream Vacation. I am always dreaming of the future especially places I want to go (once I get enough money of course.). It is my dream to go to Korea and hopefully soon I can go! For now, I will just settle with putting the pictures on Pinterest. I never really made a board before on Pinterest furthermore, I only just scroll through other pictures as an avid person on there. I was surprised on how easy it was to create one and all I had to do was search the pictures I wanted and pin it to the board I created. I added all the beautiful places I wanted to see in Korea especially go see some Kpop performances! Of course I added the food on the agenda since I need it to survive. I would need a passport to go overseas. Lastly, I would need to know some sort of their language to be able to get by but it would not be so hard because I already know some stuff from watching K-drama and reality shows.  Overall, I enjoyed this assignment and this would be a steeping stool for my future since I already made up my mind to go to Korea!

For this week, we had to do 8 stars worth of web assignments. I choose to do the assignment http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/google-draw-something/ . This assignment was rated 2 stars and it was to use Google’s drawing game to create art and have Google guess what it is. I had no clue on what to expect. I thought we had to choose 6 designs of our choosing and then have the google computer guess what we drew. However, google choose randomly what we were supposed to draw and then on it was up to the computer to get the right answer. The computer ended up answering all my drawings correctly so I was excited and surprise about that since I have no drawing skills what so ever. I even posted on twitter! :

I love this assignment than I expected at first. I enjoyed this game so much that I played it so many times. I had to force myself to stop because I would not have gone to class. I would recommend this assignment to anybody who comes across this!

Canva is bae. Canva is life.

I use Canva for most assignments for this class. It is so easy and simple to use. I’ve even used it to make custom Snapchat filters for events and such.

When you start, Canva gives you options of layouts to choose from, depending on what you’re designing. You can upload any image you want on to the website and alter it in many different ways. The easiest way to use it is to add graphics, cartoons, or other images to one another. It’s not hard to use and is super simple for projects such as the ones for this class.

I use it primarily for adding text to images, such as this one below:

There is a huge array of images you can add and be as creative as you want. Here’s another example, albeit a not as good one:

It’s a 100% free website unless you want to use certain graphics or features, but the surface level is more than enough. You can make very professional looking things, such as calendars and logos, but silly things, such as the one above. When done right, it is a very nice website to boost the look of a company or club. In my opinion, the adding of text features are what set it apart, because there are so many options and opportunities for creative freedom.

I’ve always wondered what people use to make emails that look like this, and now I’m glad I do! To stick with the spy theme, I made an email from the government, warning them that all cameras are watching them. I used the website mentioned in the assignment listing, Vertical Response. It was really easy to use. I wanted to make it intimidating, hence the red and large words. I liked using the flag in the background to give it a patriotic feel.

I take my privacy and security very seriously when talking about going online. I counted a lot of commercial products on my computer but I also have a lot of open source software too.

The words open, community, and cooperation accurately characterize the open source software community. It is nice to use open source software because you can easily review the code and many people do to see if anything malicious is happening. Community and cooperation are needed for an open source project to work and are highly valued. The word open for me relates to freedom and trust.

When I hear the words “share” and “social data” I personally think of privacy. I think that our social data is not private anymore and that is a bad thing. So many companies like Google and Facebook are collecting our personal data to use for their benefit. One use is ad targeting.

Some web extensions that I use, that I reccommend others using to help with privacy are: NoScript, Privacy Badger, HTTPS-everywhere, and ublock origin (for ads).

For some of my stars this week I decided to do that Character Resume (3 1/2 stars) and create a resume for my secret agent.

I created the resume in google docs but uploaded it as a PDF. I also decided that I would host the final product as it’s own page on my site to give it an extra effect. I started off with following some of the basic resume looks that I have seen before. I decided to do a split column format initially but then play around with it to create a center area for a profile with information in two columns below. I tried to think of jobs my agent could have had pre-C.I.A. and went with a series of part time jobs and internships. (I found it hard to try and think of what kinds of early jobs my character might have had since I never had thought about it before.) While I was filing out the resume I felt it was lacking a personal element so I decided to add my agents “picture” to the resume. I drew an outlined silhouette using GIMP and fixed it up to add it into the resume.

I used my actual ds106 site as her website and made up a fake email in her contacts section. I tried to keep the resume pretty minimalist, since that fits my character’s personality. I had a hard time deciding what name to use originally I had it as a resume for Agent Fawn however when I looked through the resume I realized that would reveal her regular self to the world. So I decided to use her real name and allude to her secret agent name with the email address and nods to other DS106 work I have done in character. One of those points was that I included the group radio show Agents on Air that our characters took part in. It also helped to give the resume a bit of a fun touch.
