This week, I completed the That Bleeping Censor assignment, which was worth 5 stars! FIVE!!
You get to be the censor of a movie scene or clip. Ā Choose a sound effect or dialogue you want to substitute for a recurring phrase or expletive, or over-used character speech and use it at the appropriate moments in your movie. This is five stars, so you need a movie scene or clip longer than 2 minutes.
For this assignment, I wanted to contrast something that you would not necessarily think as being bleeped, with the actual Censor bleeps. Ā I settled upon a clip from Despicable Me. Ā There was also the challenge of finding a clip that was at least 2 minutes long, that had repetitive words that would be good for censoring.
In order to add the bleeps, I imported the mp4 file into Audacity, generated tones for each word or phrase that I wanted to censor, and then muted the original track, so you wouldn’t be able to hear the words over the bleep. Ā When the bleeps were originally created, they were all a lot louder than the actual audio, so I had to de-amplify of them.
Once the audio was to my liking in Audacity I exported it, and then opened the video clip in iMovie, removed the original audio and added my edited audio. Ā I also had to watch the clip a few times to make sure the audio lined up, and the bleeps made sense. Ā See if you can try to tell what word I bleeped out!
For 3 stars this week, I completed the Chipmunk Style assignment.
Helium may be in short supply, but a little digital tweaking can still leave your favorite actors sounding like the Chipmunks. Take a clip from a film and either speed up the action or raise the pitch on the audio track for some high-pitched laughs.
I didn’t really know where to start, but I thought it would be funny if the characters had really deep voices in the original or it was an intense moment. Ā I thought Star Trek might be funny, so I just searched on YouTube for a clip, but ended up choosing the trailer instead of an actual clip.
For this particular assignment, I used a Mac on campus, because I know that you can easily separate the audio from the video in iMovie. I’m not sure how easy that is in Movie Maker. Ā I opened the video file (mp4) in Audacity and changed the pitch of the clip, and then exported the clip. Ā Since I was easily able to separate the audio from the video in iMovie, I removed the original audio and inserted my edited clip. Ā Since I didn’t change anything but the pitch, the length of the audio was still the same as the original, so the audio and video lined up perfectly! I really enjoyed completing this assignment, and it’s funny to watch the final product.. Enjoy!
For 4.5 stars this week, I completed the Signing Words assignment, where you must spell out a word using American Sign Language. Ā Since this was ASL related, I took out the audio, and added captions, so viewers can see what I’m signing. Ā For this assignment, I decided to sign my host character’s full name, Sally Slaughterhouse! There were a few repeated letters, so I felt like I was signing the same thing over and over again!
In order to film this, I checked outĀ a GoPro from the Convergence Center, so that’s why the video looks a little like a fish eye.. I used Movie Maker to add the beginning titles, transition, and captions throughout. Ā Since I’m a PC user, using Movie Maker was much easier than trying to navigate and learn iMovie this time around.. Maybe I’ll try iMovie again with another assignment. Anyways, enjoy!

Hybrid – Visual Assignments – 3 stars
For the assignment, I did a hybrid of a cat and an owl. Obviously, my editing skills are not very good. So what do you call it cowl? or owt? And does it purr or woooo?
Post it Note and Grocery List – Visual – 2 stars
I had a nice laugh during this assignment. I went back to the early days of Claudia Rose. When her life revolved around the milkman and killing her husband. Obviously, Claudia has her priorities straight.
If you ever was curious about my Resume that got me into the Freedom Fighters Agency…here you go. As you can see its a word document of the experiences I endured in Nevada. It seems the organization was not really interested in my school background. But they were intrigued by my skills as a hacker, “espionage skills” and martial arts background. I wanted to get across that I was a jack of all trades and they would be fools to not hire me. And of course they did accept me.
“If my untimely demise comes, which may come sooner than later since I live a crazy life style, I want to first have the Agency collect all the money I have confiscated from the mafia and give it to my family in Pasadena, California. Also, they cannot have knowledge most of my activities, So I request the agency to post all of the positive things I have done for the agency. I want my family to remember me as a crusader for the greater cause. I also want a picture of me standing on bolder, holding the American flag, with wind blowing behind while I star at the night sky. I know this didnāt happen, but thatās Photoshop is for. I want this to be the last image of people have of me.
Make it so!”
After my initiation, I decided to write a will on what should happen to my data if I ever pass away. I pretty much wanted my family and world to remember me as a hero. My goal is to inspire other to do the right thing and fight for justice.

This task was my initiation to the Freedom Fighters Agency. We were required to recite at a 10 Second thank you at the top of my head. The first thing that came to my mind was Ricky. Hes sudden death was such a game changer. For the longest time, it was wallying in self pity. Now I am angry. I wanted to make and important statement. So this is my vow to do things right. For Ricky. For Justice.
I really enjoy these Old Spice commercials; I think they are extremely funny. Part of what makes them funny is they are bizarre. They donāt have the standard this is my product, they have a story. So I wondered, if this commercialĀ didn’tĀ have any sound, what might they being selling? I came up with Crafty Vaults places for men to hide their stuff from the women folk. Think about, how often do you find your deodorant or ice cream taken by the women in your life? Okay, maybe not deodorant, but ice creamā¦all the time! Ā Craft Vaults is a company that design any imaginable vault- some ancient city, animal, box, circle, picture frame/ freezer, water resistant, fire proof ⦠you name it! It seems like a really fun idea.
Commercials are probably the most fascinating story because you have to tell a story in approximately 40 seconds. One has to hook the audience, get their message across, all while appealing to their target audience. It is quite a challenge! Old Spice commercials are the interesting because they think outside of the box, not only as in set design but script. Instead of targeting men, they target women ⦠āwomen donāt you want your man to be like meāā¦.what a great idea! Women clearly have great stake in how their man smells, so why not convince them that Old Spice is the way to go. While, I adopted this to take a commercial and redub it idea from someone else, I took a different route. I decided to take this crazy amazing commercial and make it somethingĀ stereotypicalĀ this is the problem, his is my product, this is how it solve the problem, buy it.
I got the video of the Old Spice commercial from YouTube. I used āPWNYouTubeā which is a bookmarklet (all you do is drag the link to your bookmarks). When you get a video you want to edit, right-click HQ MP4, Save Link As. Once you have done that you can open the link in Window Movie Maker. Once in Window Movie Maker, I muted the sound of the video. Then I went into audacity and got my recording of what I wanted the commercial to say. I uploaded the audio and I adjusted the start time on the music edit tool bar. I realize that my recording in longer than the commercial, so I added an ending title page. I did this by adding a ātitleā, changing the background color, adding animation, and text. Ā While, I realize this isnāt the best video/audio match-up, it is my first attempt at videoassignments (Iām a little worried about the difficult of this section).
Other good examples of this are :
I hate when people stalk me:I loved thisĀ re-dubbed of ā A Walk to Rememberā.Ā I read the block and it seems like a confusing and awkward assignmentĀ becauseĀ it is basically talking to yourself which canĀ makeĀ one self-conscience. She did a really good job and it was super funny.
Excy HerreraāsĀ Etrade Babies:This was a really cute idea, redubbing aĀ commercialĀ sounds like a lot of fun. I do think it is interesting to redub something that is already redubbed, like the etrade babies. However, babies talking is only the best thing in the world.
