Steve Carell Funny Moments

Favorite Actor/Actress Highlight Reel (3 Stars)

Description of Video Assignment: “Create a 30 to 60 second highlight reel of your most enjoyable movie scenes from your favorite Actor/Actress.”

The Story

Steve Carell has always been one of my favorite actors. He plays the boss of my favorite TV show The Office. He plays the perfect role of how not to run an office or company. He plays the weatherman in Anchorman 1 and 2, which is also my favorite movie. He plays a role of a very dumb weatherman but the stuff he does is really funny. Like in Anchorman 2 they were having a funeral for him because they thought he got last at sea but he shows up to it and speaks at his own funeral crying how much he’s going to miss himself.

The Process, Narrated

To create this assignment I had to first download Clipgrab which allowed me to save videos off Youtube onto my computer. Once I saved all the videos I wanted to use I starting to trim the videos using Quicktime on my mac. I would trim the video and save it on my desktop. When I had all my trim clips I then used iMovie on my mac to put all the clips together into one video. I used powerpoint to create the beginning intro and uploaded it to the video in the intro section. iMovie made it easy to insert the video and introduction because it had a preset slot for everything.

Blake Griffin Highlights

Highlight Reels (5 Stars)

Description of Video Assignment: “Channel your inner ESPN and clip together highlights of your favorite athlete, set it to some music, and add an intro.”

The Story

Blake Griffin is one of my favorite NBA players. He plays for the Los Angeles Clippers but I first became a fan of his when he was in college at Oklahoma University. He was such a great college player. His dunking ability was as good back then as it is now. I remember one game in college he jump so high while dunking it he hit his head against the backboard and got a black eye. But, all the highlights I chose to do of him are NBA highlights because I feel he’s dunking the same way as he always has now he’s doing it against better players.

What NOT to do at the circus

Before coming with your family to the circus, be sure to watch the video below! It provides you with many examples of what NOT to do at the circus to make sure you stay safe on your visit.

Charlie Chaplin was kind enough to make a visit to the circus for us and make lots of bad decisions in order for us to make this tutorial for you!

This was such a challenging assignment! I have been struggling all week with how to make this clip have a different meaning. I looked at examples from previous students and was so jealous of other people’s creativity. My ideas were so outlandish that they seemed too stupid and unrealistic to try to do. So today I was brainstorming some more about this video, and I started to think about how Chaplin makes bad decision after bad decision that gets him into this predicament at the circus. I guess tutorials have been on my mind also because of our assignment this week, so I thought, why not make a tutorial out of his mistakes and show people what NOT to do when the come to the circus? I’m not really sure if this qualifies as a story with a beginning, middle, and end but it was the best I could come up with.

I started out by going to this site to download the background music I wanted to use. I found a clip under the Silent Film section that had an action theme so it would fit the clip. Next, I downloaded the foley sounds for each section of the clip from SoundCloud. Here are the foley clips I used:

Then, I used QuickTime Player to record the video. I used the “Screen Recording” feature which will record anything that happens on your screen. I started the recording and played the video, then just stopped it when the video was over. Save the video to your computer. Easy enough!

Next, I went into iMovie and added the background music to my project. Go under the music note icon and search for your audio. Then, drag it to the project space to the left. The green box should appear like below:

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 2.52.51 PM

Next, we will import the movie we recorded. Click File>Import>Movies and select your movie from wherever you saved it to your computer.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 2.53.08 PM

Your video should appear under events. Select it, then drag it below where you dragged the background music. It should look something like this:

Turn off any volume from your video by selecting it – make sure it has the yellow border around it. Click the settings symbol and then click Audio Adjustments.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 2.56.46 PM

Turn the volume down to 0%.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 2.56.57 PM

Next, add the foley clips downloaded from SoundCloud the same way we added the background music. Rearrange them as needed by dragging them around. Make sure they are layered over one another so they will all play at once.

To add any text, title pages, or credits, click the “T” symbol as seen below and adjust as needed.

I’m obsessed with my dog if you can’t tell

Can you blame me? Look how cute he is!

photo-3

I’ve done numerous assignments during this class with my dog as the subject, so it’s only fitting that I did “What do pets think about?” using Cooper once again!

I chose my video assignments at the beginning of the week and I knew for sure that I wanted to do this one! I just randomly recorded my dog on my iPhone throughout the week whenever he was doing something that I thought would be good for this assignment. He’s super goofy and hyper so I ended up with a lot of videos to choose from. He’s always playing, cuddling, or throwing a temper tantrum when we aren’t paying attention to him enough – he’s like a toddler!

Once I chose my videos, I emailed them to myself from my iPhone. I saved them to my computer from the email so I would be able to import them into iMovie and string them together. The quality of the video isn’t that great because it was originally from my phone, but it worked well enough. I added some bouncy background music because I felt like it fit his personality pretty well, and I also added a title/ending slide.

To import the clips, go to File>Import>Movies… and select your clips from wherever they are saved.

Next, drag the clips into the empty box below where they you edit everything together. Then, you want to remove the audio by clicking the setting symbol, then clicking Audio Adjustments.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 9.18.22 PM

Drag the volume bar to 0% so now sound will be played and you can add audio later.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 9.18.29 PM

Then record your audio segments as needed by clicking the circular record button.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 10.56.56 PM

Since Cooper is a boy, I had to change the pitch of my recordings to a deeper voice. I clicked Clip Adjustments from the settings of the audio segment.

The box below will appear, then change the Audio Effect to whichever effect is desired.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 9.21.45 PM

I added a photo of Cooper to the beginning of my video by clicking the camera icon and dragging it to the beginning of the clip.

Screen Shot 2014-07-19 at 9.53.47 PM

I added text for a title by clicking the “T” icon.

Last, I added background music by clicking the music note icon. I downloaded the audio from here.

“Ooooohhhh-tay!”

For my first video assignment, I chose to do “Why So Serious?”  I had to take the audio from a funny movie and add it to the video of a serious movie.

I chose The Little Rascals for my funny movie and Miracle for my serious movie.  Both of these movies are on my list of favorites which is how I thought of them to use for this assignment.  At first, I was Googling serious movies but they were all movies I wasn’t interested in so I figured I might as well pick two movies that I love. I’m a big Washington Capitals fan which is why Miracle is one of my favorites as well! I’ve been missing ice hockey season lately so I actually watched this movie the other day to get my fix! It’s such an inspirational story and represents a great moment in our country’s history. You can watch the trailer here if you have never seen it. Buckwheat from The Little Rascals is one of my all time favorite characters and I knew I wanted to use the audio from something he said because he’s so adorable and funny.  I’m 20 years old and still saying “ooohhhh-tay” and doing the chin wave because I’m such a fan of this movie! Here’s the trailer in case you’re unfortunate enough to have never seen this movie!

In Miracle, the USA’s coach gives a serious, motivational speech to the team before they play the Russians. It’s a pretty epic speech and worked perfectly as a serious clip. Choosing a funny audio clip from The Little Rascals was a little harder because it’s full of funny quotes! I occasionally tell my sister, “Dear Morgan, I hate your stinkin’ guts. You make me vomit…” as an ongoing joke between us so I decided to choose the audio from that segment of the movie. It seemed to be the part that would be the funniest when matched with the speech from Miracle.

You can see my tutorial for this assignment here.

Our Story

This was a great assignment! VideoAssignments501

I loved doing it! What inspired me to do this assignment was my cheer team’s story, Maryland Marlins Tsunami. I honestly am not going to tell you much because I want you to watch my video for yourself. All I can say is that what happened that weekend changed everything. It impacted my life because of that one weekend. Take a look. Here is our story.

In creating this video I used note cards and I took a video using my webcam on my computer. I then opened the file in Movie Maker. I turned the volume down on the file and then used the download “YTD Video Download” to insert the song that I wanted to tell my story. This is a great download to use! It is really easy and it converts what you want from YouTube to saving it to your computer so you can use it! I then added a title and a credits text at the beginning and end of the video. That’s how I did it! You can do it too! What’s your story?

This was ours.

Here is a screen shot of me working on my video in movie maker!
