*** Three Stars

This writing assignment serves as a wellness check. Below I have 5 questions that I must answer as a way to check in with my self mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

What worries me most about the future?

The thing that worries me the most about the future is the not knowing. I am someone who likes to plan everything out. It makes me less anxious about what is to come and reassures me that I am not forgetting anything. I have a plan for my future now that involves me becoming a teacher, getting married, having kids, etc. but there are no guarantees that it will work that way for me and that is what worries me.

What am I doing about the things that matter most in my life?

Right now the things that matter most in my life is school, friends and family and my boyfriend. I handle all of these things by splitting up my time so I can focus on each of them individually. School comes first during the week. I make sure I have all my assignments turned in and do whatever else I have to do to be a good student. I live with my friends so we make time at night to hang out, eat dinner together and just catch up. For the friends I do not live with I make sure to keep in touch through social media! My family lives in New Jersey, but they are still a big part of my life. For them, I call every Sunday to recap the week and everything that has happened. On top of the weekly calls we also have a family group chat were my mom likes to send photos of our dog, Pepper. Finally, my boyfriend and I are long distance, with him going to school in PA and me here, in VA. We call every night and text throughout the days. He plays baseball so I try and visit him every three weeks, or whenever his schedule is a little less busy.

What do I want most in life?

Right now, in my life, the thing I want most is just to be happy with wherever life takes me. As I talked about in the previous question, I hope to become a teacher, get married, etc. I can not control the future and I can not predict what will happen, I can only hope. So to make myself less anxious about the unknown I have started making my goals a little more vague. I know things may not work out exactly how I plan them, but as long as I am happy with were I am at, my goal has been met.

When did I last push the boundaries of my comfort zone?

This question is a little more fun to answer then the previous ones! The last time I pushed the boundaries of my comfort zone was this morning when I said “sure! I’d love to go skiing this weekend”. I have only been skiing once in my life and that was when I was 9 years old… and I only lasted about 5 minutes. By accepting this invitation to do something I know I am NOT good at, its pushing me to step out of my comfort zone with the notion that yes, I will absolutely embarrass myself a little, but I will have fun while doing it!

What goals do I need to have to get where I want to be?

Where I want to be, as talked about previously, is happy with my life. I know that I want to be a teacher when I finish school and I know that being able to do that work will make me happy. In order to become a teacher some of my smaller goals are: graduate this spring, go for my masters next year and graduate again in the spring, and finally accept my first teaching position.

The last time I pushed the boundaries of my comfort zone is when I said “No” to someone. I am a heavy people-pleaser and a “yes-man”, so rejecting the requests of other people makes me extremely anxious and violently uncomfortable. I finally said “No” to a friend that was begging for me to take her to the airport in the middle of the night whenever I had class in the morning, and even though it hurt to say “No”, I felt so much better than I would have if I actually took her.
