Audio Assignments

Reverse Audio Quiz

Hey guys this assignment is pretty simple, if you can figure out the answer. Find an audio file and reverse the music. Once you have reversed the music place the file in a blog post and give three hints as to what it is. See who can figure it out first!

Recite an Original Poem

Write a poem, but not just any poem.  Your poem must set the scene for your blog theme.  It should match the colors, layout, and overall theme of your posts.  The poem contents/meaning, structure, and length (at least 10 lines) are up to you.

This poem should be recited using a recording software (or straight to soundcloud) without any extra audio.  You need a steril environment.  This is your blog so we should only hear your voice!!

Embed the audio into a blog post and tag it appropriatly.  Remember, we will all see the theme of your blog in the post!  Don’t forget Design week; use the shapes and layout as inspiration.  Read through this to learn more about what the colors on your blog can tell someone.

Remix a Song with some Speech

Take a song and some speech and remix both. Make it meaningful and give it a message. For example this is often used to cite politicians and underline the importance of a statement. (For me coming from Berlin these could be JFK’s words “Ich bin ein Berliner!” – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Pjn5E6yOKo)

Cheesy Radio Ad For Your School

Ever watch those crazy corny ad’s for colleges on Tv? Or hear them on the radio? You think “Wow that was so cheesy, I could’a done that!” Well, let’s see if you can. Try and make a purposely cheesy and/or ridiculous Ad for you school.

Whats the story Morning Glory?

Whats your morning sound like? Tell a narative of a regualr (or abnormal) morning using the movements and sounds from getting off the bed, to starting the day.  This has to be all your own recording so no sound effects from outside sources. And try to keep the dialouge  minimum to none at all.

Voice Over A Beat

Produce a beat with any (online) beat generator. (For example you can do it with Soundation: http://soundation.com/studio by using their beat libraries.) Then record your voice over the beat. Make it sound cool or funny or …

Etude de la Musique

Music is a powerful force that can change the mood and even the meaning of the visual media you are working with.  In this assignment you are to take a video and include at least 3 pieces of music to the sound track to illustrate how they each can bring about a different mood to the viewer. You can find a blog post example of this assignment at: http://wp.me/p3zfrO-vr

Being a Music Producer

Record two parts with any instrument. Make it interesting rather then perfect. Record the first part. then use your headphones to listen to this part and while listening employ your microphone to break in the second part. Think also of using your voice or tapping with your hands on the table or …

Decode Your Language

Make a recording about your idols in the aesthetic of Saul Williams, Jessica Care Moore, and muMs da Schemer. Its more about form than content. Saul Williams does this great stream of names at the end of this live performance of DNA/Coded Language. His cadence and rhythm transmit his respect for these names with intensity and thoughtfulness. If you want to extend your performance,  that’s great, this assignment’s about speaking your mind. And yeah, the example is a video, but the assignment is audio, this should make it easier for you to do multiple takes in order to get it right. Aim for a solid minute and lay your spoken word over a beat -> a quick search online will yeild many CC beats that you can use.

Audio Self-Reflection PARODY

Can’t stomach all those glowing self-reflections about what’s so great about DS106? [Assignment1119] Then why not have a iittle fun and make a parody? Record a 3-5 minunte “self-reflection” from the point of view of a disgruntled student, teacher, or open-onliner, etc. responding to the questions: Why are you here? What brought you to DS106? Why are you still here?  Start by creating an obviously fictitous name and location, then let ‘er rip.  Maybe use a different voice, and some strange background music.  Provide a thumbnail image that will grab the reader’s attention when they scroll down the list.  Here’s an example of a self-reflection you can poke fun at.  You can submit your parody here for consideration to be added along side the other DS106 self-reflections.
