Take a couple different clips from some related videos. Change them around to make a new plot, and then remove the audio. Overdub the characters to add some audio and change the story even further. Don’t forget to play with the music too!
Rotoscope a dance or sport secene. You need to make single images out of a video sequence, like with an Animated Gif. After this you draw just the outlines of the people involved in the action. The simplest tool is an image editor like Gimp and the path tool (any kind of pen and tablet would be better). Add a layer and alter the transparency the way you can see the underneath image. Use at least 6 frames per second.
Mashup two or more of your favorite websites using Firebug or photoshop. Try to be creative, giving the page a new name, and having attributes of both sites in the page. Take a screenshow of your work to share it
For this assignment you need to pick any chacter and follow thier progression that they have had (TV characters from a long standing TV show will probably be best). Use video clips to show how the character has changed and grown up over time. Try to make their progression seem as dramatic as you possibly can.
Combine the logos of two or more of your favorite sports teams. Don’t just create an image with the two logos next to each other! Make the final logo look natural and cohesive.
For this assignment, you’re going to take the instrumental of a song and mash it up with the VOCALS of another song! Here’s the main challenge with this; both songs have to have similar beats per minute (bpm) to work properly together.
You can find songs with just instrumentals or just vocals on Youtube, then use Audacity or Garageband to match up the tracks. (Hint, if the bpm is a little bit off, you can always delete portions of the vocals and move them closer or farther from each other to keep things on beat.)
A series of photographs taken by Jonathan Worth of author Cory Doctorow are now available for you to remix, regenerate, and to make new art, especially in light of the themes and topics of his books.
Your challenge is to make something new out of the photos, or better yet, remix of someone else’s remix. But we not only want you to make art, we want you to share the story behind it. Be sure to write up your work somewhere on the public web, license it under creative commons, tell the story of what it means or why you did it, cite the sources (e.g. links) to the image, and share how you made it. Here’s HOW to write up and share your remix.
This is a new experiment in public art, and a new way of thinking about digital media. Who could be a better figure than an author who releases all of his published works under creative commons license with an open invitation to remix? Jonathan explains more about this project
Alan has had a long semester teaching ds106 and is starting to think of where he will go on vacation. Try to use Mozilla Popcorn Maker to remix the original project built around Alan’s plans. You will remix the original base project to add images, video, maps, twitter info, text, URLs, and pop up text to create a new story.
The original project has 8 different points where you should add new media. Make sure the things you are adding build towards a final ending of the story. In this case, you get to plan a post ds106 vacation for your instructor; there are marked places where you are able to remix in various kinds of media. Each of these is marked with a popcorn “pop up message”.
Look for the remix icon in the bottom right; this will launch the Popcorn Maker editing interface. The eight places to add content have an image placeholder; you can insert other media on a track above it (and you may should extend the duration of the still image clip, it will men moving things around on the timeline). If you really struggle with it, you can use your familiar video editor and the original clip as done on YouTube, but we really hope you give Popcorn a whirl.
Mashup a scene from your favor serious movie with a laugh track. You can find some appropriate laugh tracks on freesounds.org. Download a clip of the scene, and compile the laughter track within the audio, keeping in mind that you are trying to change the meaning or the scene by introducing laughter. What is the story now?
