Can two different YouTube song videos work together to make a new piece of musical art simply by combining the videos? An example of LCD Soundsystem - New York, I Love You But You're Bringing Me Down played with Miles Davis - Louis Malle's Elevator To The Gallows Recording Session seems to make a case for a "Yes" answer. See it done via YouTube Doubler and also as a screencast of the video playing in two different browsers. To make this assignment work, find music from two different eras and/or genres and see if you can make a duet by ...

For this asignment you need to mash up two different iconic movie scenes. However, you should aim to be as subtle as possible. Perhaps a famous prop that simply doesn't belong or a character that looks a little out of place.

We all have favorite holidays, but sometimes it's hard to pick just one! For this assignment, use a photo editing software like Pixlr or Photoshop to mashup your top THREE favorite holidays/cultural celebrations. Use whatever elements you would like from each holiday, creating a character or scene with the images/symbols you've chosen. Tell the story behind this character or image!

Take your favorite movie trailer and mash it up with a different trailer to completely change the meaning of the original trailer. For example, if you have a funny movie trailer, give it the sound of a terrifying movie; or vice versa. You may need to clip the audio or the visual, use imovie and audacity to cut the clips to give you what you need. Good luck!

Take a dramatic closeup of anyone's face - an actor's, a friend's, your own - and superimpose a landscape or scene over the face. Since this is a mashup, get crazy with it. Take two completely unrelated images and put them together, then try to make a story out of it!

During the Fall 2012 iteration of ds106 taught at UMW, we collected media from students that was unused in their previous work uploaded to http://dropitto.me/ds106phonar (the password was “photos4life” newly added media might take some time to be moved- we have to feed the squirrels that do this manual labor). The content was migrated to a public download site, which contains at least 150 images, audio and video http://minus.com/mvKXzhhcO. Your task for this assignment is to mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and ...

A series of photographs taken by Jonathan Worth of author Cory Doctorow are now available for you to remix, regenerate, and to make new art, especially in light of the themes and topics of his books. Your challenge is to make something new out of the photos, or better yet, remix of someone else’s remix. But we not only want you to make art, we want you to share the story behind it. Be sure to write up your work somewhere on the public web, license it under creative commons, tell the story of what it means or why you did it, cite the sources (e.g. links) to ...

This is some sort of variation on Katy Chase's The Contest That Nobody Could Win assignment, but instead of clips from a TV show or movie, do clips from your favorite songs and see if anyone can guess what they are. Or atleast the artist. Do two or three second clips using 4 or 5 songs. Make them all different. Use soundcloud to post!
