Video Assignments

Inanimate Motion

Take successive photos of inanimate objects and put them together in a way that it makes at least one inanimate object move. Make it tell a story!! Bonus points for an epic sound track attached. The idea here is bringing something inanimate to life through the power of video, without taking away the fact that the object in motion is obviously not supposed to be able to move on its own. Make it cheesy, make it awesome, make it rock.

Y.O.L.O is the motto!

For a lot of people, Y.O.L.O (You Only Live Once) is a term used prior to, after, or while doing something morally unacceptable or idiotic. For this video assignment, just like charades, try to explain what this word means to you through storytelling, by using pictures or videos and not just explaining it through words. Even if you hate the word or if it means something completely different than what is explained above, try to incorporate it in your video. Challenge, >> your video should be less than 5min (5 min max) << ENJOY!!

This way, other DS106 students in the future would know where to find these softwares if they needed to use any of them.

Music Video

Music video are only the best way to listen to your favorite song because it give you the added visual dimension. Just Dance

This assignment is to create a dance video by combining dance styles of three different countries or cultures. After downloading three different dance styles; select those parts of the dance videos that would go well together. Afterward, combine those three dance clips; and mute its music. After muting the videos original music, add new dance music to it-remember the music you add should go well with all those three dance styles.
Write a blog post describing those dance style; also mention in which country those dance styles are common.

My example:
The dance video I created is a combination of Afghani Qataghani dance style, Indian Kathak dance style and belly dancing. The background music is called Qataghani saaz, which is an Afghani dance music. here is my example http://youtu.be/0m0iY2iEmWY

Narrative Ambiance

Take a favorite poem, inspiring quote or passage from a book (or even a movie monologue, if you like!) and record yourself reading it. Then set it to original video you’ve recorded with some kind of music or sound effect in the background. The final video should be at least a minute long.

The goal of this assignment is to tell a story that evokes a specific mood–sadness, joy, hope, anger, fear, peace, wonder–and to do so not only through the literal meaning of whatever you choose to read, but through your use of original video and music or sound effects. Be creative! There’s a ton of different ways to interpret this assignment. When you write your blog post about it, tell us what mood or feeling you wanted to convey, what you want the viewer to take away from your video, and how successful you feel you were.
