Can You Guess It Backwards Edition

This Audio Assignment (2.5 stars) had us take a song and put it in reverse for everyone to guess. I took one of my favorite songs. I really like the message and just believe its a beautiful song overall. The artist has enjoyed great success, but to me this will always be his greatest hit. It was produced at the very beginning of his career. Its a little bit sappy, but I’m a romantic and really appreciate songs like this and the positive message it has.

Here are three hints: 1. Its in the Country Music genre   2. The Artist is on the Voice   3. It has to do with a city in Texas

This assignment was very straightforward to produce. I found the song on YouTube, from there I imported it into a YouTube to mp3 converter, and edited the song on audacity. To reverse it in audacity, luckily it has a reverse feature under the effects tab. It is a little hard to decipher the song because the words are also backwards, but the sound and beat are still fairly similar. It kind of makes me laugh, because now it sounds as if the song is in a foreign language.

Reverse Audio

Original Assignment (2.5 stars)

I remember reading an article about classic bands (Eagles, Queen, Led Zeppelin) who are hiding secret satanic messages in their songs when played backwards. Now that is pretty creepy is you ask me, but I never took the time to check out the list of songs they mentioned. Now that I know how to reverse audio, maybe I’ll check out a few and see if the rumors are valid.

Logic is my software of choice for all audio projects. I decided to pick a song randomly from my iTunes library. From there, I was only a few steps away from completing my task. Once the mp3 was imported into my software, I opened it in the sample editor window, clicked on “select all”, then went to Functions>Reverse (as seen below).

Without giving the song away, I will say that this band was formed in 2008 in New York. Their music is describes as chill wave, indie pop, psychedelic pop, and electronic to name a few, and they have been compared to groups like Portishead. Check out the reversed version of the song below and take a guess. I will reveal the name in my weekly summary.

Reverse Audio Quiz

For another audio assignment, I chose to do the Reverse Audio Quiz (2.5 stars). It took me a while to figure out how to reverse a song on editing software, but once I moved from Garageband to Audacity the process was a lot easier since audacity simply has a “reverse” button under the “edit” section.

For the song, I thought it would be cool to pick one of my favorites and see how different it sounded backwards. Funnily enough, I think it sounds kind of cool! The song is a sweet, simple and emotional little love song, and reversed it sounds actually kind of spooky, so the meaning seems to change. It’s not a very popular song, so take you best guess at what it is!

Got a quiz for ya

I decided that it would be a fun idea to try out the reverse audio quiz as one of audio assignments. The assignment is worth 2.5 stars. For this assignment what I had to do was first record the song that I wanted from spotify into audacity. Before actually recording I turned down the recording volume so that the file wouldn’t end up too loud. Then once recorded I cut out any extra noise that was recorded into the audio. After that I went to effects and selected reverse which flipped the song into reverse for me. Before choosing this song I tried doing a couple other songs in reverse but they did not sound nearly as good as this did which helped me to choose this audio. The result is below.

Some hints to help people out, the song came out in 2001, the song was made my duo who generally dress up like strange looking robots, and last hint is that it was later used by Kanye West (probably makes it obvious). Good luck figuring it out everyone!

Reverse Audio Quiz! (2.5 Stars)

I apologize for how poor the audio is, I tried to fix it but I don’t know what the problem is so I hope you guys can understand the song well enough to guess what it is! Here are the three hints:

  1. Today is the artist’s 42nd birthday (October 17th, 1972).
  2. It was featured in a movie that he starred in, called “8 Mile”, and was released in 2002 as a soundtrack for that film.
  3. Arguably the best song produced by him.

The way I did this assignment was I used Audacity as my main program to edit the song and record the song itself. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Selected a song from my iTunes library.

Step 2: Record the song entirely. (I forgot to screenshot the file before I reversed it, so I apologize for that)

Step 3: After recording, go to “Effects”, then “Reverse” to reverse the song itself. Here’s where to find it:

Guess My Song! – Reverse Audio Quiz (2.5 Stars)

In this assignment, we were suppose to take a song and using software put the song in reverse and post it on our blog for people to guess what is playing. The process for this assignment was very simple, especially now I know how to use Audacity. I love listening to music so the only difficult part, was trying to decide on a song. I wanted to pick a song that people were familiar with since the song is being played in reverse. After looking through my iTunes library I finally came to a song that was perfect for this assignment.

I chose this song because when I was a child, this song was very popular, and I remember always listening to it in my dad’s jeep whenever we would go to different stores during the weekend to get whether it was supplies or food. I always use to listen to this song and to this day I still do. Every time I listen to it, it reminds me of those weekends back when I was a kid.

My three hints:

1.  This song was played in the movie Shrek.

2. This song came out in 1999

3.  The last hint is the “Loser” Sign

GOOD LUCK!!

Take a shot at my song title…

My Reverse Audio Quiz 2.5 stars

Now that I know more about Audacity, taking a song and getting it to play in reverse was quite simple! I started out recording the infamous, unknown song in Audacity.

Record1

After the complete song was recorded, I chose the effect button, and the went down the list and clicked “reverse”.

Record2

I chose this song and artist for a couple of reasons. I went to see this artist in concert a year ago, and was by far one of the best concerts I have been too. They grab your attention and make you feel as if you are apart of the concert yourself. The funny part was, they were just an opener for Kenny Chesney at this point. They weren’t even the main event, which made it that much more memorable. This song is captivating and reminds me of  where I am from and all the things I used to do when I was younger. Their is so much passion and love that was put into this song, it is a song I can listen to on repeat, hours on end.

With all that said and done, I have created my Reverse Audio Sound clip. Now for the quiz part, you have to try and guess the song with the three hints below:

 1. This artist was born in Granite Falls, North Carolina

2. Their first album was produced in 2006 called “Sinners Like Me”

3. This artist’s genres include: Country Rock, Country Outlaw, Southern Rock

Here’s for all of you who want to know the original song…
