Make Your Own Mixtape?

I don’t use Itunes or anything, I use Spotify. So I don’t have any music downloaded, rendering Audacity more useless than I already find it to be.

So I just used Spotify to make a fairly specific playlist. The instructions never said I couldn’t!

To make this playlist, I decided to go with something a little different than just my favorite music. I decided to put together a bunch of borderline “muzak” together. While the term muzak generally refers to elevator music, void of vocals, most of the music in this playlist is instrumental. As a child, I can remember shopping at Kmart, Walmart, and the like with my parents and hearing similar music playing in the store. Hell, even Publix still plays this kind of music today in its stores. While this isn’t the music of my generation, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for it.

Groovin’ to Japanese 80s Music

For my second audio assignment, I made a mixtape for Japanese 80s music. This is also potential content for our “Around the World: 80s Style” radio show. I simply searched for music in the 80s and found the songs that were listed on my Google search on Spotify, and added a variety into a Japanese 80s Music playlist. The songs included are:

??????? (Kimi wa 1000%, “You are 1000%”) (1986)

“Eye of the Mind” (1980)

Kurenai (1989)

?? (Jidai, “Era”) (1988)

Shinzo no Tobira (1983)

Misty Lady (1984)

You’ll probably notice some similarities to 80s music in the States. This was definitely a fascinating assignment to work on, but the most difficult part was picking out songs that could capture the variety of music in the 80s in Japan while also demonstrating some level of similarities among each song and between 80s Japanese songs and 80s American songs.

For our radio show, my hope is that we can embed snippets of some of the songs in our show and compare the 80s music of each country we’re doing our show on.

The Perfect Roadtrip Playlist

This week for one of my audio assignments, I chose to do Make Your Own Mixtape. I love making playlists for all types of reasons. Road trips, sports, acoustic songs, sad songs, etc.

For this assignment, I used Spotify to create a playlist for an upcoming roadtrip I plan on going on, across the United States. I wanted to incorporate a lot of songs that I can really belt out while driving long, boring stretches of highway.

From pop songs by Khalid to more acoustic indie songs by Side Saddle, I wanted to create playlist that mirrored my extensive library of musical genres I enjoy. AJR and The Bad Suns are two of my favorite bands so I made sure to add a hefty number of songs from them.

Any new reason to create more playlist is awesome in my book. Music has always been a huge part of my life since and any assignment based around it, I always love doing it.

DS106 Radio Show Mixtape

So I had already done the mixtape assignment during audio week a while back but decided to do it again because I thought it was fitting to our radio show! I decided to pick out all the best theme songs from different 80s movies and create a playlist so that way when I am putting together the radio show I can pull from those songs to create the background music easier!

I chose songs from classic 80s movies like “Pretty in Pink”, “Back to the Future” and of course, “The Breakfast Club”. I also threw in some other 80s theme songs from some lesser recognized movies. I am happy with how it turned out and now have an easy place to store music if I decide I want to add more!

I hope you enjoy the mixtape!

Mixtape: DJ Diana

For this assignment, I used the sound editing program Audacity, which I have been familiar with for quite some time now. Being a dancer, I have to mix, cut and mesh songs together to choreograph routines to it. One of my favorite mashups I created involved a bunch of songs that had recently just came out and I incorporated into a mix to dance to. The hardest part of this process is making sure the songs fit together and flow. You can’t have an upbeat song and suddenly transition it into a slow. The transition must also be at an appropriate time in the song in order to flow into the other. Enjoy this piece I made that is one of my favorites due to being very upbeat  (a little lengthy)

I had to crop some music out due to not having ownership to copyright.

Make A Mixtape:

For this assignment it asked to create a ‘Mixtape’ in whatever digression you please. I made this playlist a while ago and it is my go-to relax playlist. The genres somewhat very but are mostly new songs. They are all songs that either make me happier, or remind me of a happy time. My mixtape is meant to make anybody who is having a down day happier and enjoy the rest of the day. The vibe for this mixtape is overall a very chill and enjoyable vibe which I like.

Mixtape

For this assignment, we were instructed to make a mixtape. We could interpret the directions however we wanted so I decided to make a mixtape on Spotify with my favorite songs from the 80s to stick with the theme. I really enjoyed this assignment because I love music from the 80s so it was super fun being able to go through and listen back to all my favorites and make a playlist from them. I am definitely going to be using this playlist!

Here is my playlist! Feel free to check it out and listen to get in the groove!

Ultimate Workout Mix!

For today’s edition of audio assignments, I was tasked with making a mix tape. It seemed like a fun thing to do, because with all the new software and platforms out these days like pandora and spotify, I haven’t sat down and made my own mix tape or playlist in years. As more of a movie watcher than a music listener, I generally only listen to multiple songs in a row if I’m in the car or working out so I decided to make a nice new workout mix tape that I can actually use. To keep with our 80’s pop culture topic, I only included major hits from the 80’s which actually worked out really well. They had a lot of iconic, great up beat or intense songs that get you pumped. Below is my personal Ultimate 80’s Jam:

  1. Survivor – Eye Of The Tiger
  2. Technotronic – Pump Up The Jam
  3. Duran Duran – Hungry like the Wolf
  4. Salt-N-Pepa – Push It
  5. Devo – Whip It
  6. Scorpins – Rock You Like A Hurricane
  7. Ozzy Osbourne – Crazy Train
  8. Kenny Loggins – Danger Zone
  9. Twisted Sister – We’re Not Gonna Take It
  10. A Flock Of Seagulls – I Ran
  11. Def Leppard – Pour Some Sugar On Me
  12. Pat Benatar- Hit Me With Your Best Shot

Anyone out there that gives it a try, feel free to let me know what you think of it, or if I missed any really good ones that should be included.

YassQueen Soundtrack [????]

You didn’t ask for it… but here it is! This challenge was to create a mixtape! I chose some favorite songs of mine and… well… made some changes ?

Hope you all enjoy!

Below, you can find details on the challenge itself:

Mixing Up a Mixtape

Mixtapes can come in different forms–sometimes a mixtape is just a collection of one’s favorite tracks, sometimes it is a collection of tracks put out by a sinlge artist. Sometimes they have small edits made to them, like a DJ saying their catchphrase.Try creating a mixtape of your own. Mixtape is broadly defined in this…
