On the Radio – uh oh

This whole day every time I think about radio I keep getting Regina Spektor’s ‘On the Radio’ stuck in my head, hence the title.

Anyway, here’s my radio bumper. The music might seem a bit familiar cause I used the song Groom has on his blog trailer. I thought it sounded super spooky and perfect for the noir theme. Then there’s my dumb cheery voice. I tried to say it in different ways, but cheery turned out the best and ounded the least like I had a cold. And then bang! Crash! The lightning flash! (thunder at the end)

I think the biggest problem I had with this was the fear of hearing my own voice recorded. It’s a funny fear to have guess, but it’s a fear nonetheless. I got over that hurdle though after mentally preparing myself for a minute before recording. Other than that I enjoyed the assignment. It was fun to see the different directions everyone went in with the same prompt. Here’s a screenshot of my layers:

Radio Bumper Assignment:

For this assignment, I did a radio bumper for “FXBG Radio”

Radio Bumper: Did Someone Just Die?

Creating a radio bumper was not as hard as I thought it would be. I knew I wanted to continue with the noir theme in my bumper, and I also wanted to get people’s attention. The easiest way I found to do this was to start out with a loud noise and put the relevant information about what station people are listening to afterwards. When I first started working on this project, I wanted a crack of thunder to start with, but after a while I decided that a gunshot would be a better choice because it is more jarring. I hope the spirit of noir is captured in this radio bumper!

I found the gunshot, footsteps, and jazz music sounds on freesound.org, and recorded my own voice for the speaking part. Because I chose to put the music after the footsteps started, I had to play with fading the music in so it didn’t sound weird (and I had to fade everything out at the end too). Doing this bumper, I learned that I am very self-conscious about my voice (in my opinion I sound like I’m about 7 years old). However, the other parts of the assignment were very fun because I could create anything for my bumper, and I think the sounds mix pretty well and convey the atmosphere I was trying to achieve.

Radio Bumper

For this radio bumper I found a video of noir related music made by Daniel Carison on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBUsdLPmkvc I found a part I liked and cut the rest. I decided to use the more eery part of the song to give it a more intense feel to the bumper. I edited the pitch of my voice in Audacity to make it deeper because I don’t like the sound of my voice and my original voice didn’t match up well with the background music. It took me awhile to get used to Audacity but once I got the hang of it, it was actually pretty addicting to use.

Bumper

Let me just tell you how frustrating this bumper was to make. But nun the less I liked this assignment. I spent so long trying to make it better and interesting but still be the appropriate length. I do think I like what the outcome was. For my bumper I used parts of the Phantom of the Opera overture and many different sound affects that I thought would be interesting. I hope you like it.

Radio Bumper!

Audio Assignment:

Create a ds106 radio bumper (Does not count towards stars)

For this assignment we had to make a radio bumper for ds106. I decided to dress it up in a little noir. I know 20’s music isn’t exactly noir music but I think it fits the theme quite nicely. I used the song ‘Bang Bang’ by Will.i.am because I really liked how he mixed the 20’s music with music form this decade.

For this assignment I used Audacity. I already had the music file in my library. I cut what I wanted from the song and recorded my voice over the part I needed. I then used the echo edit to end the bumper.

Bumps and Bruises

My DS 106 radio bumper! (2 1/2 stars)

For this Post I wanted to try make something that was a little bit creepy. At first I wanted to make something that was more “horror film” than the noir of the 1940s and 50s, but I decided I would try to do something that was more relevant to those times. One thing I do like about this bumper is that it can be interpreted a couple different ways. See if you can figure out why it is called “without a knock.”

In order to do this post, I used sounds both from GarageBand and a few from the free-sounds webpage that we were advised to use. Instead of downloading the sounds, I just re-recorded them onto my computer because it was easier to get them into GarageBand in this way. Also, it wouldn’t take up the space I had in my computer. I did enjoy overlapping some of the sounds for this project– It gives it a more realistic sound than when one effect would just stop and another would begin.

Sounds I used

heavy breathing

door opening

gunshot

I also used a jazz clip I found on GarageBand.

My required radio bumper for ds106 radio using Centuries by Fall Out Boy

I sound like a transvestite

One of this weeks required audio assignments was to create a ds106 radio bumper. What is a bumper? “It is a short recording that identifies the radio station with signature music or an expression that makes sure the listeners know what they are tuned into.”

Here is my go at it:

To create this radio bumper I once again used a totally legal website to download the noir music from youtube. Once the music was downloaded into my itunes, I carried the track over to my audacity application and trimmed it down to 30 seconds. I then recorded my voice over the music, and adjusted the volumes so you could hear me more easily.

I really don’t like the sound of my nasally Jew voice so I had to edit the pitch to make it sound a little deeper. It kind of made me sound like a dude, but anything is better than my original voice.

After editing the tracks together and exporting them to my desktop as a mp3 file, I uploaded them to soundcloud. I also changed the setting so that my file is downloadable, just as the instructors asked.

DS 106 Radio Bumper

This audio assignment was required this week. Here’s the link to the assignment: http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/creat-a-ds106-radio-bumper/

This assignment was not too challenging, however, I’m not very creative so I was at a loss of what to do. I turned to http://www.freesound.org and used a couple of different downloadable sounds from that site. I pieced them together and layered some of them in Audacity and voila! This is definitely not a masterpiece, but it’s simple and gets the point across! Take a listen to my radio bumper:
