I think I just made a bumper… woot woot

AHHHHH! Okay, so I’m way excited!!

One of the most difficult assigments in week 4 for ds106 was to make a bumper. I know, I didn’t know what it was either but a little research goes a long way.  So basically a bumper is a small introduction that many radio stations have. It basically plays cool music and you say the name of the radio station.  I used SoundCloud and FreeSound to make my amazingness happen.

For my bumper I decided to use the introduction to a Buckcherry Broken Glass Song, and said “Y0u’re listening to ds106 radio.” It sounds kinda boring when you think about it BUTT my curiosity led me to something BEYOND COOLNESS.

SO I was clicking around and then somehow, don’t ask how cus I have no idea how I did it, I was able to make my voice echo/overshadow it? I don’t know but it’s pretty cool.

My bumper is about 6 seconds long, I think that might be too short, but I didn’t want to ruin it so I just left it how it was.

I hope you guys like it :)

Can’t Fight The Feeling

Wowwwwww so now that I know how to use Audacity, this audio editing is SO MUCH EASIER. I was so overwhelmed. Always am when I see a new program on the computer and have no knowledge of what to do with it and how to work anything on it. So I bumble about all confused, and frustrated, until I finally figure it out. After creating my 5 Sound Story, I found it was suuuuuppper simple to do the radio bumper.

I used the first 10 seconds of Mac Miller’s “Fight The Feeling” and incorporated it with an audio recording of my voice to create my radio bumper. Enjoy!

Put the bumpers up!

For my DS106 Radio bumper I had to do something hockey related. I couldn’t not do something hockey related. I’m just so sad there is not going to be a hockey season *sobs*.

I chose to use freesound.org to find clips to use, I surprisingly did not have to hunt very far for any of the clips. They were all super easy to find and edit. I thought editing the clips was going to kill me but I finally figured it out.

Here is the finished product:

Radio Bumper

So this bumper was pretty easy to create. I mashed up myself saying “ds106 radio”, “Clubbed to Death” by Rob Dougan, and some crazy radio static, just not exactly in that order. The beauty of audacity is that you can layer these things and play with your own recordings. I played with some effects on [...]

Bumper Time

I managed to finish my first ds106 bumper woo woo. I didn’t really understand what a bumper was so Iooked it up here. My thought behind my bumper was to try and create something that was smooth but also kept the listener’s interest with the final whistle.  I played with a couple different sounds and ended up with this:

After making my sound story the bumper was a lot less intimidating. I found all my clips on freesound.org and mashed them together using audacity.I enjoyed playing with the different sounds and trying to think of a series of sounds that would be audibly interesting but also able to be a filler/transition for a radio show.

Bump the Radio

I found this assignment quiet enjoyable, I completed my sound effects story first so I had a pretty good idea of how to use all of the tools need for this assignment. However, I must have redone my voice over at least 7 times. I worked on this bumper while I was listening to the radio station to kind of see what the radio needed, I went with short and sweet! Hope people here it on the waves!

A Bumper You Can Bump To

So, a few hours ago, I didn’t know how OR what I wanted to do for my DS106 Bumper. And since I didn’t know what a bumper was at first, you may not know either. A bumper is the short audio clip that plays on radio stations to remind you what station you’re listening to, who is on the air, or even what kind of music is played. To put it simply, if you own a radio, you’ve heard one before.

I was a little scared for this assignment; 1. Because I didn’t know how long it would take and I’m running short on time 2. I didn’t know how saying DS106 radio with my own voice would turn out.

Turns out that with the help of Freesound and Audacity, I can make miracles happen with audio! I was able to nab some free sound effects off of Freesound, record my own voice in Audacity, and mash it all together and edit this little piece:

As with the FIRE FX post, I wish I had some more time to edit and make something really smooth. But I’m happy with what I created and am proud to start getting into audio editing!

Audio Assignments for Week 4

The first audio assignment I did this week was creating a sound effect story

It is a bit of a horror story. I downloaded my sounds from freesounds.org and mp3skull.com and then imported them to Audacity where I layered them as well as put in some effects like fading in. Can you guess what happens?

Then I made a bumper for DS106Radio:

It’s a little shorter then specified, but I think it sounds good.

DS106 raido bumperrrr

Here is my Radio bumper!! At first the audacity program was overwhelming but I started just trying stuff out and figured how things work. I used a sound clip from sound cloud called THIS LOVE by Julia Stone! I liked the beats in the song and it was mellow so that is why I chose that song. Then I recorded my voice into audacity saying “You are now listening to Ds106 radio. I  then click on effects and made my voice recording echo. Lastly I blended the song and the voice recording and moved the voice recording to where I wanted it to play during the music.

Bumpin with DS106Radio!

This assignment for making a bumper for ds106 radio turned out to be really fun. I found a remix I liked from soundcloud, called Skrillex & Damian Marley – Make It Bun Dem (Feature Cuts Remix) and downloaded into Audacity. After which I recorded my voice saying “Bump it up with DS106 Radio”. I fixed the effects on my voice by amplifying it and faded out the music towards the end. Then I exported the file and uploaded it onto Soundcloud. Take a listen and enjoy!
