For this assignment, I took a photo of myself using a gesture and then created a though cloud to it. The original phot was from a wedding when I found out that I had to do a speech. I changed my thought up a little bit but it works. The original assignment can be found here and it is worth 2 stars.
I know Janelle’s Sebastian Crane isn’t really looking for a lady right now, so the inspiration for this simple 2-star assignment seems to stem from Seb’s younger years, when he was more of a rambunctious rebel, a worry-free wanderer, a carefree cool cat… I don’t know if I prefer him in his dashing work attire or this fine, FINE flannel. Heart-eyed emojis for DAYYYSS :D.
No matter the decade, ladies always go insane over Crane … and I think I’ve fallen victim. ‘Scuse me while I go add him to my list of cuties to fangirl over ;).
For my Digital Media class we are supposed to do some “assignments” for this website DS 106. They actually look pretty entertaining and interesting, hence the quotation marks around the word “assignments.” I will admit to being pretty over-extended recently so I chose a simple one for my first entry. My technical skills seem limited to me considering what I’ve seen on the website and from other classmates but I will attempt something more difficult (for me) for future assignments. This one appealed to me – “Your very own Spubble”- because it is within my capabilities and I wanted to cheer someone up. The assignment was to find a picture of yourself looking expressive (in my case I look irritated) and add to it with a caption. By the way, it did cheer someone up – at my expense – but I have no problem with that in this case.

Well here is one I couldn’t resist! This assignment is “Your very own Spubble“! As soon as I read it, I knew the exact picture I was going to use:
After some weekend training and PROPER use of equipment, us rescue folks like to have a little fun. What I’m wearing is a Stryker Speed-Sheet. We ordered a bunch to test them out. They are used to ease patient transfer from our stretchers to a hospital bed or such. It’s a one time use and well…after we used it in training, I decided to use it some more!
This was a quick create. Open photo in paint, click rectangular callout, change the colors of the callout, add some text, save! BUT remember to save it with a different name so you don’t lose your original files!
The most challenging aspect of this assignment was finding a picture that would work well with a speech bubble. Once I had this picture picked out all I could think of was the actual conversation that took place while this picture was being taken so I think that hindered my creativity a little bit. In retrospect I probably would have produced something more intriguing if I had used a photo other than my own. I enjoyed the process of creating a spubble, I used Picnik to insert the speech bubble into this picture.
It is starting to happen, ds106 is taking hold and folks are letting go and having fun an creating wildly. I’ve seen a ton of awesome work this week, an Alan and I are collecting as much of it as we can as a record here. More than that, during our Week in Review show on Friday, that I will be posting shortly, Noise Professor was talking about how ds106 is at its best when people are not simply doing assignments, but riffing off the work others are doing and modifying or playing with it in some way. This can only happen if your work is open an if you are not afraid to piss off your professor an have some fun. Luckily, Thomas Ella is ready to do both, and his “Hey Girl” Ryan Gosling meme post featuring yours truly here provides a wonderful opportunity for me to riff and respond. This is kind of like the Spubble assignment, but only seen through the lens of an American Apparel t-shirt. Hey girl, I hope you enjoy it.

This is my creation in response to Visual Assignment 190: Make Your Own Spubble, submitted by Jim Groom. I love this assignment. If you have not heard of the Ryan Gossling meme obsession, please check out this site for a few moments, as it may help you appreciate my creation. :0) This assignment is worth [...]
