Berry Splash – Splash the Color Visual Assignment

Visual Assignment 340: Splash the Color – Color splash is a technique to emphasize details- you remove all color from a photo, and then restore original color to a single object, e.g. a green apple on a table. Think of the Girl in the red dress from Schindler’s List.

I LOVE berries.  I love all fruit in general (except a few that I’m allergic to).  I think the splash of red in this image gives it a very yummy effect, don’t you?  The link for my tutorial is below.

And… I made my VERY FIRST video tutorial!!!!!!!!!    May be a little sloppy, but I tried my best… haha. :)   Check it out and let me know what you think!

Just a Hint of Color and Love

I think these pictures are beautiful. I love black and white to begin with, and when you take a part of the picture and make it color, it stands out and emphasizes that particular part. I had my sister take this picture one Easter for me. The little boy holding my hand is my cousin, Kyler. He and I have this bond, this strong connection that no one in the family can understand, except us. When he was a baby, he couldn’t say “Chelsea,” so he would call me, “Chi Chi,” and he still does to this day. Making the rest of the world around us black and white, while we are our own unit, defines us and our relationship.

I used my sisters Adobe photoshop, which is a program that can be downloaded online. One of our many web 2.0 gidgets. Before doing anything with adobe, in my IPHOTO, I edited the picture with the different effects I had, putting the whole picture in black and white. Then I opened up the document of my photo went to the top bar and clicked a button that adjusts the contrast and brightness of the picture.

I wasn’t planning to do the Splash the Color assignment at first. Then I saw this car this morning and took a quick snapshot. As I drove on I thought it would make good color splash, so here it is.

I just followed the tutorial on the assignment web page, using the online picnik.com. After I got the finished work back on my PC, I didn’t think it really captured the true color of the car, so I loaded it into the Windows Office photo editor and cranked up the saturation a bit. Overall it took about an hour.

And no, this is not my car.

That’s my story. Any questions?

Visual Assignments “Splash The Color”

Concept:

JUST WAN’T THAT SALMON SASHIMI!!
I’m a huge fan of sashimi, especially salmon sashimi and salmon eggs! Thus, I always target these particular sushi before start eating lol

I used a photo that was taken in a sushi restaurant in Asakusa. Last year, my friend came visit Tokyo from Kobe, and his uncle took us to the restaurant.  I really appreciate that I had this opportunity. The sushi there were brilliant!!

Process:

I inverted colour of other sushi and the background through the software “Paint”

Red stripe

This flag belonged to my grandparents. I like that it has 48 stars. Given its age, and the fact that I had it hanging on the porch for about ten years, it has lost a lot of color. I just accelerated the process, except for the one stripe.

So I saw the Visual Assignment 340 and I’ve always wondered how pics like that were done and figured now was the time to find out. It’s quite simple, I don’t know why it took me so long to do. Here’s my final product.

It’s a picture I took, either in Scotland or England, of a phone booth. I don’t know if the splash of color works well for this one since it is the focus of the photo, and usually color splash seems to be something small,  but I still like the bright vibrant red.
(If you want to see a bigger version of it click the picture, it’s a huge picture.)

Elmo’s lonely

A couple of years back I was taking a lunch-time walk around the harbor walk which goes by my university campus. In the summer I walk every day (3-5 miles) at lunch time, but when the weather gets colder I tend to cut back. In any case, this was taken in the fall, it was a bit chilly and drizzling (not a big deal) and there he was, Elmo, abandoned (there are condos nearby so some kid probably forgot him).  I also saw this as a perfect opportunity to mess around with a free photo app that I had gotten for my iPhone.    I think the grayness really does bring out how bad the weather was (no one else was around outside) and a generally jovial toy monster is longing for his owner to come back and get him.

I took this picture while sitting outside Snap, a little French restaurant in DC that sells crepes and bubble tea. I noticed that across the street was the cutest cotton candy-colored house I’d ever seen. The pink door was especially cute.

To achieve this color popping effect, I used Picnik. After I uploaded my photo onto Picnik, I cropped it, then selected “Effects.” I selected “Black and White” then painted the door pink using the paint brush tool.

Second Visual Assignment

Chuggin’ along on my visual assignments, here is my second one: the Color Splash. I was a little uncertain as to how I was going to do this until a classmate pointed out that it could be done in Piknik during class – thanks to j-rabbit.info for the tutorial! It was really really easy to do in Piknik, thank goodness. Just convert it to black and white, then use the paint brush mode to repaint the selected area.

I wanted to make sure I had a photo that wasn’t too busy, but had a nice big swatch of color. I settled on this nice candid shot I got of my boyfriend Mike when we took the canoe out on Lake Pend Oreille last summer in Sandpoint, Idaho. My family has a lake house there and we go there every year, it is one of my favorite places in the world.

Splash of Color(s)

For this Visual Assignment, instead of highlighting just one color, I decided to highlight an object. I think flowers are awesome and I decided to make them pop out of the darkness. I used Picnik.com to work on my photo. It was super simple. I just uploaded my picture and then I played with the [...]
