Splash The Color

Took this photo in the stairway of my apartment building, then used photoshop to turn down all the colors except red. I think I chose this assignment because it was pretty simple and easy but still really cool and creative to do.

a splash of coconut

I decided to tinker with the splash the color assignment for this post.

I chose an old photo of my sister from a trip to Belize we went on last year.

I just used the lasso tool to cut the coconut out of the color photo, then created a new layer with the original photo adjusted in black and white.

I mainly just spent my time on adjusting the levels in photoshop on both the black and white layer and the coconut’s color layer.

My trip to central park with a touch of Splash
My trip to Central Park
This is from a trip to central park i made in the summer time, I find central park a very beautiful place, full of alot of life and natural colors.I found this project very intersting because i got a change to eliminate, the colors and still fill the picture with enough color for you to still see the beauty. The way that i made the splash of color is by first having the picture in my cellphone I had doadload at application via android called photo art. And with that i was able to make the changes. First i made the whole picture grayscale. With color eleminated from the picture I added color to the item in the picture that I thought would stand out, and that was the bridge. And the last picture you see is the finished product.

Assignment 4 (part 1)- Splash of color

Red Boots on Rainy Day

I took a photo of my feet with my rain boots on. Then I used an iPhone app called color splash, to create grey scale. After turning my photo completely grey, I then added back the color to my boots. I enjoyed this visual assignment because it felt like I was performing a magic trick.

Erase Me Purple!

My 2nd ds106 assignment for this section!

What I had to do:

“Color splash is a technique to emphasize details- you remove all color from a photo, and then restore original color to a single object.”

The original picture:

The photo after being edited:

Process:

  • Open the photo using GIMP
  • Duplicated the image (Image -> Duplicate)
  • Added a Alpha channel for the layer.
  • Using the eraser tool with the transparency option ,erased the part of the flower I wanted in order to bring back its original color.

Story:

I got the inspiration of coloring just one flower from a picture I had seen where someone had colored just one sunflower in a sunflower field. It took me sometime(alot of time) to figure out how to do this in GIMP. Google still remains as the savior!

This is a picture of a flower vase at home clicked by my uncle and I happened to see it! It was a nice image so thought I’d use it for this assignment-saves time nah! ;)

2 STAR Visual Assignment #3: “SPLASH THE COLOR”

The Splash The color Assignment was interesting, In the past years when i attended high school, in one of my graphic communications classes I remember one of my instructors teaching us a lesson on how to single out the colors of a photo, and just make one particular section have color. So, with that being said i already had an idea on how to turn the picture below which is 2 pink flamingos, and only show one flamingo’s head color while i left everything else in black and white. The tools i used to conduct this assignment was using photobucket.com, I first uploaded my picture then I went to the effects tab and pressed the effect button called “grayscale” which turned the entire image black and white, unfortunately I only needed to have one area show color so instead i went to the adjustment options tab and clicked on the “painted area” button which gave me a brush that focused on coloring the photo to the parts that i wanted to stay black and white. After that i colored the entire background with grayscale except for the flamingo’s head ..even though it kind of looks a bit orange…lol!! :)

DS106 Splash The Color

Assignment

I chose Splash The Color because I think this assignment does not take a time, and even though this assignment is easy, the accomplichment is really cool. The assignment requires that “Color splash is a technique to emphasize details- you remove all color from a photo, and then restore original color to a single object, e.g. a green apple on a table. Think of the Girl in the red dressfrom Schindler’s List.

Process

I used aviary as same as previous ds106. I get the original picture which come from my album. fter I download the picture to aviary, I did desaturate to my picture, and I cut some parts from original. Then I paint the yellow color at the sectuion I cut.

Story

I know the picture do not fit in current season because in the picture, there are fireworks. However, I thinkeven though I change the some parts, the fireworks is still shining. Through the assignment, I could represent how firework illiminate us.

The Ds106- Splash The Color

The Ds106- Splash The Color

Color splash is a technique to emphasize details- you remove all color from a photo, and then restore original color to a single object.  Think of the Girl in the red dress from Schindler’s List.

I didn’t know this technique until I done this assignment. The processes are actually pretty simple.

For photoshop,  first you need to create a new copy of the original picture. (press Control J)

Use it to target the part you want to keep the color. Next remove the color from your new copy.

Thats it!

Abbey

Meet Abbey.  She is kind and sweet and has red hair.  I saw Abbey this weekend and we had this conversation:

Me: I want to take pictures of your face.

Abbey: Ok.

Me: No, really.  I have my camera and I want to take pictures of your face.

Abbey: What? Wait, what?

But like I said, Abbey is kind and sweet.  She let me take pictures of her face.  See, I was going to color-splash her gorgeous blue eyes.  There is something so fabulous about her hair though, that I did that instead for the “Splash the Color” visual assignment.  I also fiddled with the saturation and temperature of the color on Picnik.  It was a little difficult to get her hairline and ends to look nice and not too harsh but overall, I’m pleased with the final product.

So here she is, color-splashed Abbey:

Splash of Color

I’ve seen pictures like this all over the internet but I never knew how they were made until now. I picked a photo that was taken at a frisbee tournament that was held last year on the turf fields. It was one of those accidentally awesome pictures. I decided to leave the color in the hat because it was the only thing in focus that had any color and I didn’t think I would be able to do the grass.

I tried to do this one in Pickic but I couldn’t get the color focus right. So again, I followed a tutorial and used GIMP. I created a new layer and put the black and white image over it and then brushed away the black and white parts from the hat. I’m realizing how powerful of a program GIMP is, but I imagine it takes forever to master it without constant tutorials.
