NFL ESPN Fantasy Football Logo

For the mashup assignment TwittrĀ I had to take 2 of my favorite website logos and mash them together. It was relatively easy using photoshop. Currently my 2 favorite websites are NFL.com and ESPN Fantasy Football. I have been spending a lot of time on these websites because of the football season. So I took their 2 logos, mashed them together, and created this one:

The New Logo For Baltimore Sports

I decided to complete the Your Favorite Sports Teams Mashup. For this assignment I used the Baltimore Ravens and Orioles logo.

Ravens logo 2 orioles 3

Then Using photo shop I cut out the O logo and merged it onto the Ravens logo. I used the magnetic lasso for the process. Then I used the clone stamp to fill the inside of the O with purple and edit the purple around the orioles logo. It took a little time but I enjoyed this one because I love Baltimore Sports.

Heatskins!

For this assignment I decided to find two teams (Heat and Redskins) and combine their logos together. I used PowerPoint to make the logo, and managed to fit them over each other to be like a Redskin comet. In the end, I decided on the team name the Heatskins.

I decided on these teams because I was looking for emblems that had relatively similar color schemes. I was also looking for some emblems that had somewhat similar shapes so they flowed well together. The Redskins’ emblem seemed to fit very well with the Heat emblem and I for one thought it turned out very well. It really hold that comet, like appearance.

Let me know what you think!

Will Smith Transformation

For my final Mashup Assignment, I decided to venture into video after making the other two using photoshop. I went with an assignment called Actor Transformation which showed the transition of actors from earlier in their careers to the present day.

I went with Will Smith who has been a Hollywood staple now for the past 20 years. He started off as a rapper in the late 1980’s and has become quite a successful actor. Despite this time span, he has magically failed to age. In any case, its pretty cool to see how things have gone full circle.

In this mashup, I included 5 different scenes showing this transition:

1988 – DJ Jazzy Jeff & Will Smith – Parents Just Don’t Understand

1990 – Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

1995 – Bad Boys

2002 – Men in Black II

2007 – I Am Legend

2014 – Winter’s Tale

I created this video by downloading them off Youtube using KeepVid and uploaded them in Windows Movie Maker and simply split off the excess parts of the video. I then used the fade technique to give the video a seem less transition.

Rocky Fight Club

MoviePosterFightClub2

For my second mashup assignment, I decided to jump into the world of photoshop and complete a Movie Mashup in the form of a poster. I thought for quite a while on this one and made a mashup using Fight Club and the movie Rocky. While the plots of the two movies aren’t the same they contain the same broad focus of fighting.

I started off by looking up movie posters for both movies and found one I really liked for Fight Club. I then cut and paste a similar looking picture from the Rocky poster and arranged it with the others. Then, the tricky part came when I had to change the the credit names to include Sylvester Stallone. I luckily found the same font type of the movie poster at fontmeme.com and was able to match the colors to where it blended in well.

Overall, I think this one came out well and I enjoyed the process.

The Boys of Summer Go Outside

For the Parallel Plot assignment, I decided to assemble clips of the kids fromĀ The WireĀ season 4 to Childish Gambino’s “Outside.” I think a lot of struggles Childish Gambino references in the song as well as the EP it appears on are seen onĀ The Wire.Ā Whether or not the kids on the show escape it and manage to be as successful as he is (Childish Gambino a.k.a. Donald Glover wrote forĀ 30 Rock and played Troy on Community). Ā The songs talks about getting outside of “the system” and escaping the viscous cycle that preys upon those who are young and black and growing up in the projects. The boys this season focuses on seem to be battling that and at times, succumbing to it.

To make this video, I downloaded and imported into iMovie episodes 1 and 3 fromĀ The Wire season 4. I also imported Childish Gambino’s “Outside.” I then started to pick out the split up the clips of the kids from those two episodes and rearrange them to work with the music. I tried to put clips from school with the lines referencing experiences in school. I then added title screens at the beginning and end. I saved it as a file and uploaded it to YouTube.

The editing is a bit rough in some parts and the clips don’t necessarily parallel Gambino’s experiences, but I think the themes are similar in each; we’re just catching different parts of their lives.

Here is the final product, which I titled “The Boys of Summer Go Outside.”

R.I.P Music Lives for Lyfe

For the last of my 8 stars for weeks 13 and 14 I chose the “10 Second Song Mashup”. This was difficult because with choosing five favorite songs or songs by a favorite artist you get caught up listening to the music. Clipping out two seconds can prove to be next to impossible. After listening to the five that I would pick from over and over, and over, and over again, I finally settled on what two second clips that I would use. I used Audacity to trim these portions, after merging the five sounds I uploaded the finished track to SoundCloud. I expect most will know the artist but I think the songs will be tricky to guess. Hell, two seconds of any song can be tricky for anyone to guess. Hope you enjoy!

10 Seconds of an Oldie but Goodie and a New Fav

For this assignment, I used an app on my phone called iMashup to smash up two songs I had previously purchased on iTunes. Once that was done I cropped it down to 10 seconds and uploaded it to Sound Cloud via Audio Copy. I think that the songs will be easily identifiable but maybe being from different decades will pose a bit of a listening challenge.

How many times can I insert Eminem into a song?

3 stars

At least four times, by my count.

For the Vocal Instrumental Mash Up assignment, I decided to mash up ‘All Apologies‘ by Nirvana with ‘Lose Yourself‘ by Eminem, and ‘Summertime Sadness‘ by Lana Del Ray. I pulled the instrumental of ‘All Apologies’ and layered ‘Summertime Sadness’ on top of it.

But it wasn’t completely done, and I felt like something was missing. Some of my absolute favorite mash ups are rap mash ups, and I wanted to find a way to incorporate rap into my mash up. Easier said than done.

After an obnoxiously long time searching, I had almost given up when I found a vocals only version of “Lose Yourself” by Eminem. While the actual rap part did not mesh up well at all, I decided to use the spoken word part at the beginning.

For my first mash up, I’m pretty proud of it! I’m especially proud of the fact that I got to incorporate three of my favorite songs. I’ve got to say though, this assignment should definitely be worth fourĀ stars, because it was extremely difficult to get the beats to mash up!

To make this, I uploaded all the tracks into Garageband and cut them up and moved them around to try and make the song as cohesive as possible. I enjoyed it, and while I am by no means a DJ, I would like to dabble in mashup mixes in the future!

Cobra Starship Meets Techno Viking

I decided to do the Techno Viking Music Video mashup assignment.

I figured the Techno Viking clip would fit well in a music video that included people dancing. I immediately thought of Cobra Starship’s “Send My Love to the Dancefloor, I’ll See You in Hell.” I’ve been a fan of them for a long time and I really love their early music. This music video, especially, speaks to not taking yourself too seriously and taking time to have fun, of which is something I often need to be reminded.

I downloaded the Techno Viking and Cobra Starship clips using Clip Converter. I separated the audio from the video in the Cobra Starship clip, decided where I wanted to insert the Techno Viking, and split the clip. I then added in the Techno Viking clip and trimmed it down and muted the audio. I then had to trim the Cobra Starship video so the audio matched up and the video wasn’t longer than the audio. Finally, I added in titles to the beginning and ending of the video. Then I saved it as a file and uploaded it to YouTube. Here is what the editing of the clips in iMovie looked like:
