The beginning and end of Brooke Davis

A Changing Character – 4.5 Stars

For my first mashup assignment, I decided to give A Changing Character a shot. 9 seasons of One Tree Hill came and went, in which I watched every single episode of each season, and now it is all over with. My favorite character through the entire show was Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush). Over the entire series, she transformed from a young, didn’t care a whole lot, spoiled, flirtatious, cheerleader, into a business owner, independent, mother and wife, as well as a genuinely kind woman. Another reason I chose to show how she changed throughout the series is because I thought she had grown the most from a totally different person as she was in season 1, episode 1.

In order to get the video clips of Brooke Davis throughout the One Tree Hill series, I used YouTube to search for good slips which I thought represented her. I got a clip from each one of the seasons to give it the bit more oomph I thought it needed to show her stages of growth through it all. To download and save each clip from YouTube to my computer, I used a website called SaveFrom which takes each YouTube videos and converts them into a Mp4 and saves it to my computer.

After having all the videos I wanted to use, I found on picture of Brooke Davis that was memorable for me because it was during the season where she was beginning to realize that she needed to change and get her life going in the right directed, so it is a picture of her standing in front of an overhead projector of words that people use to destroy others. That is when she realized she couldn’t be the person to knock people down, nor not care about them.

To convert all the videos to my own video of Brooke Davis, I used FreeMake Video Converter and uploaded each video to the template as well as the picture I set as the beginning of my video which brought me to where all the editing can be done.

I went through the videos, and cut only the selections of each video that I wanted because I didn’t want my final product be an entire movie that bored you to death for an hour. I cut the clips down to where it was mostly just showing Brooke Davis and her ways, which ultimately brought the time of the video down to roughly 7 minutes (which I felt was reasonable considering the overall time span of growth I was showing with the changing of Brooke Davis).

After I was happy with the length and transitioning of the videos and picture, I clicked on the convert button on the top toolbar, and converted it to a Mp4 and saved it to my computer.

This assignment was a lot of fun, time consuming, but still a lot of fun. I got to re-watch shows and parts of One Tree Hill I absolutely loved, which makes me want to watch the series all over again (if only I had the time for 9 seasons, ha!).

“Right into the wall!”

I did the mashup assignment for inappropriate laughter and had some fun with it. I had just watched episode 7 of the Wire and thought this fight scene would definitely be inappropriate to add laughter to, so I had to use it. It was easy to download the video and I found some laughter tracks online. The first I used from the Office found on YouTube because it fits perfectly with the wall incident. I had some trouble with Mac’s updated iMovie so I struggled to put the video and sound together, but I worked it out in the end and I think it turned out pretty well.

11 seconds of awesomeness

I had a bit of fun with the 10-second mashup assignment. I just recently got a record player and downloaded a lot of new/old music to my iTunes, so these are a few of my favorite songs right now. I couldn’t get rid of the last second because every second was necessary to show off these great songs, in my opinion anyway.

Here they are:

1234- Feist

My Body’s a Zombie for You- Dead Man’s Bones

Skinny Love- Bon Iver

I Love You- Woodkid

You Always Hurt the Ones You Love- Ryan Gosling

Many Faces of Drew

For my second Remix Mashup I chose “A Changing Character” for 4 1/2 stars. I chose Drew Barrymore because she has an extensive portfolio of work, making it simple to obtain a variety of clips to choose from. I used IMDB to remind myself of lifetime work in the movie industry and gathered my choices from YouTube. Once I had all my files all that was left was to begin plugging them into Movie Maker and choosing transitions to blend the clips together. The final collaboration is below:

Even the Baltimore Police Department Does It!

This Mashed Up Children’s Book assignment made me chuckle. I am studying to be a teacher so I loved this idea. It took me awhile to choose the book I wanted to do. At first, I was going to do something like Charlotte’s Wire (Charlotte’s Web) or No, McNulty! (No, David!) I then decided to go with the classic story, Everyone Poops.

I found the book cover online and used Paint to put the pictures of the four faces on the book. I was going to use photos of all characters. I tried to find photos where the characters looked stressed to add comic relief but decided that these photos did more justice.

Way Down in The Hole…Lotta Video! – Week 11-12 Summary

Way Down in the Hole-Lotta Video

Over a two week period, we were required to do  a plethora of video assignments totaling at least 16  stars worth!    We also were required to do at least two daily creates each.

Introductions:

The introductions which I had done this week included my two posts for a video assignment on

Daily Creates:

*Daily Creates Included my Parking Poet Lauret Blog -

In this blog I created my own poem about the woe’s of parking.

*My Internet Memories of Yester_Year blog in which I detailed my very first experiences with the internet overall.

My Other daily create included a Sound Map

This daily create caused me to be more aware of my surroundings and it was interesting to see the sounds I detailed on paper.

Assignments:

*The four assignments I did included the Return to the Silent Films Era Assignment worth 4 1/2 stars.

Which I detailed in my Child’s Play blog.  I used a horror film for this choice because it allowed me to respond better with more emotion being evoked from seeing something that is frightening by minus the sound.  I always say that one’s imagination could be your worst enemy in these cases.

*The Second assignment was the  Movie Trailer Mash-Up.  For this assignment I wanted it to be comedic.  I choose the old 80’s footloose dance compilation trailer and a dance scene with Terry Crews from the movie White Chicks.

foot                                                        white

I choose to play off of the concept of dance, and I choose one of the funniest scenes from the movie where actor Terry Crews has a dance monologue  in the movie White Chicks.

*The Third assignment was the Video Essay – for this Assignment I choose some of the earlier most impressions I got from The Wire.

Last but now least, I was instructed to do a Swede of the Wire which I took video from the Season 3, Episode 11, Death of Stringer Bell.

Overall Feelings for this week  I felt as if I was overwhelmed, I still had a lot of technical difficulties with  video editing especially when it came to using my own video in which I had uploaded.

I think that basis was to start early as I did not have any issues with any of my other videos except this last one.   I realize that one needs to be patient in addition,  I look forward to using all of my skills and attributes that I have acquired over these weeks for audio, visual, and video to add this to the creation of my final project for The Wire.

Space Jam 2 Trailer- (5 Stars)

When I saw this assignment, I knew this is one of the ones I wanted to complete. I am a huge fan of movies and I love going to the movie theater with family and friends to see them. I also love watching the trailers beforehand, so when I saw that we had to create a movie trailer of our own, I knew I wanted to do this one.

The most challenging part about making this trailer was figuring out what two movies to use. I first thought about trying to combine Fast & Furious with Ricky Bobby, but I found that too difficult. Then I was going to create a something with Will Ferrell in his basketball movie but I couldn’t think of another trailer to use. Then I came up with my Space Jam 2 trailer. After the video assignments before, I have become very familiar with the video software I use and it was very easy to put everything together. I was able to get the trailers off of YouTube and both videos were by Warner Brothers Entertainment Company.

Final Product:

space jame

I decided to combine the movie trailers of Space Jam and Thunderstruck. Space Jam is about Michael Jordan teaming up with the Looney Tunes and playing a huge basketball game against tome aliens who steal talent from NBA players. This movie is absolutely one of my all-time favorites and whenever I see it come on TV I will watch it. Thunderstruck is about Kevin Durant and a high school kid who meet at an OKC game and KD and the kid mistakenly switch talents, and the whole movie is about KD finding his game again and the kid leading his school team to state championships. I recently saw this movie and I thought it was pretty good. The reason I chose this trailer is I would rather make a Space Jam 2 about Kevin Durant instead of LeBron James, and secondly LeBron does not have a movie out. Space Jam is a childhood movie of mine and every time I watch it, it brings back memories of watching it with my sister in the car during trips when I was very little.

I really enjoyed this assignment, even though the preparation and thought process before creating it was a lot more difficult than the other assignments. I am very please with the final video and they way it looks and sounds. I felt like I was able to put it together to make it run smoothly and will be a fun video for people to enjoy.

Lets Go Bulls

So the assignment that this post is dedicated to is the Sports Team Pump-Up Video assignment. The goal of this assignment is to essentially create a pump-up video for a sports team of our choice. A couple weeks ago we were assigned to do some pre-production for a couple of video assignments and this was one of the assignments I chose, meaning I was fairly prepared to do this assignment. The team that I chose to do my pump-up video on was my favorite basketball team the Chicago Bulls. To accomplish this assignment I first needed to generate my story for the video. The story I generated was to be based around the injuries to Derrick Rose over the past two seasons, and how this season is (hopefully) his official comeback. This means that I would open the video with clips of him getting injured, and as the video progresses introduce clips of him shooting in the gym, working out, and playing with him teammates, building up to the ultimate goal of the team dominating on the court.

As far as the music went within this video, I think I did a very good job. I used three different songs for within this video. Those being the Space Jam Theme Song, When I’m Gone by Wiz Khalifa, and Lose Yourself by Eminem. And yes I know that last one is very typical for a video of this nature. I used these songs for a few different reasons. I utilized the song When I’m Gone for the first minute of the song, which includes a slow piano, increasing in tempo, and building along with a beat. I think this gave a very strong vibe of the downfall to start the video, but the uprising that is to come. I then chose to use Lose Yourself because in my opinion, it is the single-handedly, most motivational song of all time. Not only the lyrics but the beat and the emotion that Eminem’s spits his verses in create a fantastic piece of work.

To edit my video I simply used iMovie (again). And to maintain all the clips I would add I simply downloaded those from KeepVid. If you would like to look at screenshots for both of those, you can look at my last blog post on my Mash-Up Trailer. I found that this assignment needed a lot more clip splicing and editing than my last assignment did. Because basketball is such a fast-paced game, the clips needed to be very specific and edited with the clip’s audio in mind. In this video, I also utilized a lot of pictures. I’m not entirely sure as to why I did that, but it just felt right to use them in the areas I did. The only other thing I did that was somewhat special was add video effects to all of the clips displaying and explaining Derrick Rose’s injury. I added the iMovie “Vignette” video effect, and then changed the color levels so that the Chicago Bulls color Red would dominate the clips. So if you’d like to take a look at my Chicago Bulls Pump-Up Video, here it is:

Overall, I really liked this assignment. It mixed two things that I really like, those being film and sports. It also allowed me to create something that is meaningful to me because it represents my favorite basketball team. As far as my performance on this assignment, I think I did a good job. I created a video that I feel has a very strong and well displayed story, but also includes a good amount of nifty editing tricks that really help make this video pop. In my opinion, I think the video, music, and audio meshed very well together and created a good final product.

This assignment is worth a total of 4.5 stars out of 5.

Giving me a total of 9.5 stars for the week. If you’d like to check out this assignment you can find it here. Other than that, I hope you guys enjoyed and stay tuned for my next video assignment. Deuces.

First Video Assignment

As one of my pre-chosen video assignments I chose one called, “A Word…A Picture…A Story” I chose this one because as soon as I read the description I already decided what I wanted to do. I wanted to use the words in my favorite quote, “live the life you love” but then I decided to use the second half of the quote as well, “love the life you live” and I also added another song, so I had to use my Audio Cutter app to cut and edit the songs down to a time that would fit the video when mashed together, I chose “All Kinds of Kinds” and “Follow Your Arrow” because both songs can be related to the quotes, the meaning behind all is just be yourself and don’t change, just enjoy it! Very powerful statement but when put in video like this emphasizing the words as well as adding the music I think it is even more powerful!

Here is my work-space screenshot, I tired to show a little of everything going on:

Without further a-due here is the final project!

Godzilla Vs. The Incredible Hulk

Alright, so for my first Visual Assignment of the week, I decided to do the assignment Mash-Up Trailers. I chose this assignment, because I think it is a very cool thing to do, that requires a lot of creativity. Now, the hardest part for me in this assignment was deciding exactly what videos and clips that I wanted to use. I literally perused IMDb for thirty minutes trying to think of a good combination of movies. I finally landed on the movies Godzilla (2014) and The Incredible Hulk (2008). I chose these movies because I found a few common themes between the two movies. Those being, destruction of cities and soldiers, and a central monster in the story.

From there I needed to obtain all my clips I wanted to use, but this entailed me having a general idea of what my storyline was going to be. But, to download all of my clips from YouTube, I used KeepVid.

Screen Shot 2014-11-11 at 9.58.04 PMKeepVid makes it nice and simple for downloading any video from YouTube using the video’s hyperlink. It also allows you to download the videos in any quality and type you prefer (MP4, FLV, etc. 240p, 360p, etc.)

To edit my video I decided to use Apple’s iMovie. I find iMovie to be very simple and powerful with its video editing tools. For those of you who have never used iMovie, here’s what it looks like.

Screen Shot 2014-11-11 at 10.01.38 PMThe box on the upper left part of the screen is where the video is being edited. As you can see many clips appear in there, and to add clips there you simply drag and drop the desired clip you want. The purple bars that appear under the videos is the audio. This allows the audio to be moved, edited and rearranged as desired. The box on the upper right part of the screen displays the video that is being made. The tool bar in the middle of the screen includes the majority of the tools that iMovie includes. Some of these include, voice over, cropping, adding music, transitions, text, and photos. Lastly, the wide box on the bottom half of the screen is the video library. This is where clips are stored so that they can be selected and dragged and dropped into the editing window.

Now, here is my final product for this assignment:

The opening scene news report is news footage that I got from a Tsunami in Japan, the clips from the actual movie are from an array of different videos. But primarily they are based off of the trailers for Godzilla and The Incredible Hulkalong with other “best scenes” videos form both. The storyline I wanted to portray within this video, was that Godzilla has set out on destruction of the world, and that the only hope in stopping him is the Hulk. To do this, I kept the general audio from the Godzilla trailer. I think it fit my storyline very well, and was mostly vague to build suspense for viewers about the monster(s). To edit this video, I detached the audio from the Godzilla trailer, letting it continue to play in the background. To make sure that all the talking synced up with the noise, I had to time the removal and addition of clips very accurately.

Overall, I think I did a very good job on this assignment. In my opinion, it turned out very well. This assignment, Mash-Up Trailersis worth a total of 5 stars.

Giving me a total of 5 stars for the week. And if you’d like to check out this assignment, you can find it here. I hope everyone enjoyed my video. Til next time my friends!
