Mash Up Trailer

I do not understand how people make videos for a living. Once I finished this assignment, I literally had to put my head down on my desk. There was so many parts to this, I swear this video was like 40 minutes long.

So first, I needed an idea. I didn’t have one. I downloaded the trailer PSD file on the assignments page and messed around with the words on there. I then started thinking about celebrities because I still had Mean Girls on my brain from my last assignment. I was thinking of making some sort of trailer about being in the public eye and how that could be damaging, but paparazzi clips aren’t always the best quality. I still wanted to incorporate that so I found this video clip of cameras flashing and I added this sound of someone say “no” from Freesounds over it and I really liked it! I then wanted to use the song Pretty Hurts by Beyonce which speaks to how women are only viewed for their looks and wanted a video of someone doing their makeup. I remembered years ago seeing a book trailer that had Zendaya Coleman in it and in the trailer she is doing her makeup and getting ready, so that was perfect. I added some title effects and I split and added a freeze frame to the clips too. I then added the PNG of the broken glass and shattering sound from Freesounds to the project. I then found this video on some great scenes in Euphoria which is a show that also stars Zendaya and her character in that show has some ROUGH moments, so it fit the vibe I was kind of going for. For the first clip, I brought back the Beyonce and I added another Freesounds clip of someone saying where are you over and over again. I then added the second clip of her on the bike and extended the music to the end.

Bob Ross Animal Mashup

Bob Ross loves his little animals friends, and he wants us to love them too. After watching a couple episodes of The Joy of Painting, I decided to have some fun with these moments between Bob and his pets. The original idea comes from the ds106 assignment bank. Using Adobe Premiere Rush, I was able to isolate my favorite parts of the episodes and pull them together to make my Bob Ross Animal Mashup! For the audio, I extracted the opening theme for The Joy of Painting and instead have it playing during the length of the mashup. The song wasn’t quite long enough, so I also had to clip out one of the looping parts of the song, duplicate it, and insert it about halfway through so the audio would make it to the end. I’m still very new to video and audio editing in any capacity, but find it very interesting. This was a lot of fun to put together, and I hope you enjoy!

Your Favorite Teams Mashup

I have merged, or mashup’d logos from two of my favorite sports team. The red and yellow outer ring of the logo is Manchester United, an English soccer team, and in the middle is the logo of the Eagles, an NFL football team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Holiday Mashup

My three absolute favorite holidays are (in order): Halloween, Christmas, and St. Patricks day! The decorations for these three holidays are SO fun and I love the feeling I get around these times of year. I had a lot of fun creating this mashup, and I especially love the little Santa jumping off the pumpkin ?

Holiday Mash!

My favorite holidays are the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Halloween! I know technically halloween isn’t a holiday, but I think it counts as a cultural celebration? Enjoy!

80’s movie scene mashup

????

For this assignment, I chose to combine two famous 80’s movie scenes into one picture. I’ve seen this picture of the scene many times, just in pictures and references on blog posts, etc., but I’ve actually never seen the movie itself (Say Anything). Maybe it’ll be the next quarantine movie I’ll watch!

I tried to make it look like these two were jamming out to music together and trying to get someone’s attention. I got both pictures from Pinterest and edited it using PicsArt on my phone. I think the lower part of Bender’s body up until it reaches his arm looks pretty realistic. It was hard to crop his arm and the head, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I chose these two scenes because I figured it would be easier to make it look like one whole picture with people who were presenting in similar positions (standing), wearing similar clothing (the coats). To me, they honestly look like they could be friends! I had thoughts at first about putting the guy with the boombox (not sure his name) in Bender’s end scene (on the football field) but I thought that background with the car might’ve made that more difficult to do.

Let me know what you think!

If you’ve seen both of these movies, which do you like better?

Holiday Mashup

For this assignment, I did a holiday mashup and remixed it by adding Fonz from Happy Days.

Website Mash-Up

For this assignment, we had to mash up two website logos to create a new logo and a new site for the new logo. For this one, I started with just wanting to mash-up Google and Facebook. But I wanted to take a step further and also mash Instagram into there.

Here is the logo when it was just Google and Facebook:

I used the font from Facebook and the colors from Google.

Then I decided to combine instagram to it as well. Here is that one:

For this one, I used the colors of the work from Google, kept the name Facebook, took the blue color from the Facebook logo for the Instagram logo, used the camera logo from instagram and used the font from Instagram for the name as well.

The site that goes along with this new logo is a site where you post pictures and videos, can friend people, and can use it like a search engine. A perfect combination of websites that people use everyday.

I really really enjoyed this assignment. I thought it combined the best parts of what we’ve learned so far in class.

PS: This assignment is worth 2.5 stars…total of 9.5/8 stars this week so all done with mash-up assignments for the week!

80’s Mash-Up Movie Style!

For my first Video Assignment Bank project I opted to the mash-up trailers assignment, which seems to be a popular choice. It’s actually a lot of fun! Although, warning it does take a bit of your time. I found this assignment was a great way to reintroduce myself to iMovie (I had only really used it once before to make our DS106 trailer). The iMovie platform is fairly user friendly. I am sure there are a lot of other cool features I could have played around with, but for this assignment I wanted to get the basics down.

My first task was to pick movies. In all my trailer uses three – The Breakfast Club (which contains the majority of visual and audio clips), Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Sixteen Candles. After made it so each trailer would be easily accessible to me as I went to edit in iMovie. Every audio clip and/or video clip was trimmed from the full length trailers (every.time.). I’m sure there is probably an easier way of doing it, but I was already on a role and didn’t want to add any new information.

I watched and rewatched each trailer a multitude of times and mentally noted clips I thought could work together. It was nice to have my phone and laptop so that I could watch the individual trailers on my phone and then create and piece together the clips in iMovie on my laptop. That minimized the number of tabs I needed to flip between to complete the assignment.

Line on top of image is the scale to adjust speed.

There are quiet a bit of detached audio flies that are overlaid on video clips from different movies. There are also a few instances where I had to detach the audio file from the video clip in order to blend the audio into the next clip. I slowed a few visual clips down (click on the clip, there is a line with two dot icons on the top of the clip in the editing section and drag it to the left or right to manipulate the speed – it works for audio too) so that the audio files could run the length of the video.

The biggest challenge was audio. While I lowered the volume in the Ferris Bueller clips, but the background music clearly does not match the upbeat Breakfast Club music. I unfortuently, could not figure out a way to try to fix that. My guess is that I would likely need to deconstruct the audio in a different audio editing software to do so.

It’s by NO means perfect, but I did have a good time creating it! ?

Movie Trailer Mash-Up

I had a lot of fun with this assignment. We were instructed to combine two different movie trailers to create one trailer. I decided to combine “A Quiet Place” and “IT”. I am honestly not the biggest horror movie person, but I have seen both of these movies and I thought combining two horror movies could be a lot of fun. And I was right.

I started off my getting the trailers I wanted to use. I then loaded them into iMovie and cut the parts of the trailers I wanted and then combined them, using the audio from “A Quiet Place” trailer. I am actually really happy with how it turned out and think the two trailers fit together really nicely.

Here’s my movie trailer!

(PS This is a 5 star assignment which means I am at 10 stars total so I’m done with assignments for the week!)
