For this assignment, I had to combine a song and its cover into one seamless song-and try to see if the audience can tell the difference. It sounded interesting to me, so I thought hey, why not. I chose the song “The Writing’s On the Wall” by Sam Smith, because it showed up as safe in the CC search and it is from the Bond movie, Spectre.
To try to make it sound as put-together as possible, I had to match the obviously-profesionally recorded Sam Smith version to a phone-recorded cover by a woman named Connie Talbot. To do this, I found that the simplest way would be to just record the Sam Smith version onto my phone, and upload that to Audacity where I would piece together the audio.
I then uploaded the whole thing on youtube. Overall, this project wasn’t too hard…it was very time consuming! But other than that, I enjoyed the experience. Hope you like it!
This assignment, which was 3 stars, required me to mashup the same song covered by two different artists. I chose to do the original version of Passenger’s “Let Her Go” and a cover by Boyce Avenue. I again used my voice recording app on my iPhone to record the parts of the two versions of the song to make the mashup. I then uploaded the recordings into Audacity and started to edit the clips to make them flow together. This was a little difficult because I had to make sure I was starting and ending each clip at the right lyric or right beat. However, once I finished it, I liked the final product. The final version is up on my SoundCloud!
This assignment was 4 of the 12 stars required from the Audio Assignments this week. It required me to make a mashup of popular Disney songs. The mashup didn’t have to make any logical sense, which mine definitely does not. I chose the song “Reflection” from Mulan (1998), “Evermore” from Beauty and the Beast (2017), “Colors of the Wind” from Pocahontas (1995), and “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana (2016).
I couldn’t figure out how to download songs from Youtube onto my computer and I also did not want to pay for them on iTunes. I decided to use the voice recording app on my iPhone to record the parts of the song I wanted and then uploaded them onto my computer. From there, I moved the audio clips to Audacity and began editing the songs to flow together. I then exported the final mp3 version onto my Soundcloud for anyone to listen to! This was a really fun assignment!
Create a new mashup by combining any two songs you feel fitting for a mashup! You would be surprised at some of the results!Below I completed this assignment by mashing Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” with Letting Go (a popular electro song back from 2011) http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/take-any-two-songs-similar-or-not-and-create-a-mashupremix/ The Work Itself: I did a mash-up of Post Malones –… Read more
To give you some context of my love for Disney, here are some pictures I took from my family’s trip to Disney last year…
I may appear like I am a 21-year-old girl in these pictures but don’t be fooled, I am actually basically a 2 year old in my heart.
So when I saw that one of this week audio assignments involved Disney, I jumped at the chance.
This assignment tasked us with creating a story using the lyrics from various Disney songs. For example, if you start with “did they send me daughters when I asked for…,” from Mulan, you could follow it up with “happy snowmen!” from Frozen.
As I said, Disney holds a special place in my heart and when my academic side and my obsession with Disney can collide and collaborate, I will always go for it.
For this assignment, I decided to take songs from some of my favorite Disney movies and overlap them so that they flowed into one another. What this means is I let a song play and when the song hit a specific word that another song had, I then changed it so one song flowed immediately into the next to create this brand new mashup song! The song’s I used for my mashup were…
“Go the Distance”- Hercules
“How Far I’ll Go”- Moana
“Let it Go”- Frozen
“Let’s Go Fly a Kite”- Mary Poppins
“Breaking Free”- High School Musical
“Star to the Right”- Peter Pan
To create my ‘story’, I first downloaded all these songs from youtube and used a site to transfer them into audio files (***disclaimer I do not own the rights to any of these songs that belongs to my main man Walt Disney***).
Once I downloaded them into audio files, my next step was to cut and merge the audio files into one song. But let me tell ya, this part of the assignment was not all Disney love and magic….it was tough! But, for my love of Disney, I stuck with it. Usually, when I do a project like this, I use iMovie. But I got a new laptop this semester and it is an HP, so I no longer had access to iMovie and had to find another option for how to merge my songs. Luckily, after many Google searches and help from previous students who took this class, I learned about a couple of websites and apps where I could merge all of the songs and cut them into one audio file.
The first site I used was a audio merging site where I uploaded all of the audio files and merged them into one giant song. From there, I used an app I have never used before called Video and Audio Cutter and Converter. This app allows you to upload one piece of audio and cut it at various places until you are left with one audio file of the clipped song you want. To figure out where I had to clip the videos, I listened to each song and set time parameters for how long one song would play and another song would begin. After I did this for each song, it merged the clipped audio files to play one cohesive song. Then, I just uploaded my song to Soundcloud and shared it with the clas!
This assignment definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone a little bit. I have always relied on iMovie to create assignments like this in the past, but this assignment allowed me to explore other sites and apps out there that can create awesome audio files!
It’s the holidays! If you said that to a person from a lot of other countries, I think they would be like, um, okay, what does that mean? Which holidays? We know that as Christmas/New Years, or maybe adding in Thanksgiving too. So, that makes the perfect inspiration for the Holiday Mash Up assignment. I included Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. I was able to do this on Canva. Happy Holidays!
This was the Holiday Mash Up assignment worth 4 and 1/2 stars.
For this Mashup, I combined two of my kids favorite places to eat. We now have McDonald’s selling pizza. I used Canva to combine the McDonald logo with a pizza from Pizza hut. I tried to put the pizza behind the golden arches but I ended up making a mess. So we have a floating McDonald’s logo with a floating pizza.
Holiday Mashup 4 1/2 Stars
Holiday Mashup required me to combine 3 holidays into one picture. I used Firey Dragon that I created for this class. She is wearing a Santa hat for Christmas, holding an Easter basket with Easter eggs and she is holding the American flag that represents the 4th of July. I used Canva for this project and searched for pictures that had no background or where considered transparent. It did take time to resize all the elements in order to fit Fireys size. It was trial and error until I got the look I wanted.
Mashing Friends And Emojis 4 Stars
This is my favorite Emoji, I have a pair of sun glass almost like the Emoji. I couldn’t find anyone to pose wearing my glasses or any other pair of dark sun glasses. So, I searched on the internet for photos of people wearing sunglasses, I was determined to do this assignment. I used Canva to put the two pictures side by side for this assignment.
The @IamTalkyTina Headswap 21/2 Stars
For this assignment I used a phone app to put the head of Talky Tina on Albert Einsteins body. I used Faceover Lite phone app, its free through the App store. I was really surprised how well the hair of both characters blended together in this photo. It did take a little trial and error to get the Talky Tina face cropped and blended into the Einstein photo. I am happy with the results.
Step 1: Find some friends who are willing to model/pose for you
Step 2: View the different emojis and select one to copy (you can select the emoji or your friend can select the emoji)
Step 3: After choosing the emoji, find a picture of that emoji online or take a picture of the emoji (I chose to take a blank picture on snapchat and insert the emoji as a sticker)
Step 4: The friend will now copy what the emoji is doing to the best of their ability. Take a picture of friend posing (you may want to take a few pictures and compare them to make sure the emoji and the model look similar)
Step 5: Using a photo collage app, upload the two photos next to each other to compare them. They can be side by side or one on top of the other. (I chose to use the app Layout app)
Step 6: Save your mash up creation and upload it for others to see.
I decided to insert Irri into one of my favorite tv shows ever, Veronica Mars. I think the idea of Irri solving crimes with Kristen Bell was too good to pass up. I also got the cut out around Irri really well in this edit! Doing multiple of these for this week has really helped me in my abilities to do that!
For this assignment, we were to mash a photo of an emoji together with a photo of a friend imitating the emoji. I figured it would be fun to have multiple friends to try to help me. After finding a few friends who were willing to be my model imitators, I allowed them to each select an emoji that they wanted to imitate. After choosing their emoji, they each tried to copy the emoji to the best of their ability. When they were ready, I took a picture of them posing. For a few them, we ended up taking a few pictures to try to math it up to what the emoji was doing. Once I had my pictures of my friends, I went back and got pictures of the emojis. To do this, I took a black photo on snapchat and inserted the emoji as a sticker. When I was finished with that, I brought the pictures together using the layout app that I have on my phone. I was able to insert the two pictures together to create a comparison. I chose to create two photos where the two pictures were side by side and two pictures that were stacked on top of each other. After formatting the pictures, I saved them to my camera roll and edited the colors of each photo. I’m happy with the results that I got and had fun working with a few of my friends to complete this assignment.
