This doesn’t belong here, with a remix

The second assignment I did for the week was remixing an image with another image inserted in there. Well the original assignment called for the second object to be as small and discrete as possible. Well in the Remix that it came up with, it says do the complete opposite! So to do that I make the second object the main focus of the mashup! The original assignment can be found here:

To complete this assignment, I thought it would be cool to do a scene out of the movie Avatar and then layer Mr. Incredible on top! I googled some images and found what I wanted. From there I took them into GIMP and cut out Mr. Incredible and layered him onto the scene from avatar. This would normally be pretty easy… some how my GIMP has found a life of its own and is now in spanish. I cannot figure out how to get it back but I still managed to get the assignment done. I will also be doing a tutorial for this assignment and how to cut out objects on GIMP so look out for that. Here is my assignment:

Avatar Mashup

Two Movies, One Line

The first assignment that I did for the week was to mashup two movie lines into one. The assignment can be found here:

Two Movies, One Line

When I started this assignment, I could not think of two one liners that could be mashed together successfully. Well thanks to the internet, and a search of “best one liners,” I came up with the famous line from Taken and Lord of the Rings. Once I had the lines I wanted, I searched them on youtube. From there I downloaded the videos using Keepvid.com and imported them into iMovie. Cut the excess off the clips and slapped a title on there and wala. I thought it was pretty good. I wish the transition between the two was a little bit smoother but over all it is not too bad!

We belong together.

I created an assignment in the assignment bank because I was inspired by a music assignment current in the bank. I initially rated it 3 stars because while it isn’t hard, it is somewhat time-consuming and someone came along and rated it 3 1/2 stars. So 3 1/2 stars it is I suppose. For this assignment, I wanted to take 2 famous actors that people love and impose them into one photo and actually make them look like they belong in the photo together. This involved Photoshop and Lunapic (are you surprised this is what I used? lol). I feel like I’m getting significantly better as using Photoshop because I am getting so much practice with it. Each time I do an assignment, I’m using new tools and making my works SO much better than the last!

So, I had to find 3 different photos. I searched for scary backgrounds on google and found what looked like an old, ominous, abandoned town. This was perfect for Johnny Depp and Daryl Dixon to star in (I don’t know Daryl’s real name, and I’m ok with that). Then I found 2 photos of my stars themselves. I wanted something that wasn’t going to mesh perfectly right away and needed some editing. Then, I removed the background of each of these photos. Once they were each pulled from their backgrounds I went over to Photoshop! I placed the background first to the town setting I found then started with Daryl. I felt like he was the more dominant but yet a backup guy at the same time. Then I placed Johnny Depp into the photo (again all of these photos were placed on separate layers). With Johnny I wanted to put him lower, appearing that he was the one leading. Then I took the eraser and edited some of the glare off of Johnny because it didn’t match Daryl. After they were both in there and I was satisfied I saved my work, but this wasn’t the end. I wanted it to really look like it was an old snap shot of them working together, similar to the photos in The Walking Dead. So I uploaded my edited work to LunaPic and chose the filter “sepiatone.” There were a ton of other filters I could have used, but this fit the part for me. Then I decided I wanted to make the border corners rounded to make it look like some of the old family photos that my grandmother has. This was done under borders and “rounded border.” I changed my border corner size to 100 and got my end project!

Let me know what you think!! It was fun to create! (:

“If I were a single lady”

For my next assignment, I create a song mashup, but I changed the rules a bit. Instead of using 2 or 3 seconds of 5 songs, I used 10 seconds of 2 songs to make a mashup. I used 2 Beyonce songs to mash together.

First, I imported the two songs into Audacity. Then I opened another Audacity project to paste the parts of the song I cut from the originals. I chose the fade out option under effects to make the parts flow together better. It was pretty simple!

Favorite Holidays

For my next assignment, I created a holiday mashup. My two favorite holidays are my birthday and Christmas, so I mashed the two up:

To create this assignment, I used Photoshop. I downloaded the Santa Claus picture from pnglng.com, and then I added some birthday clipart throughout the picture. The process was pretty simple, and I have definitely gotten comfortable with Photoshop.

May the odds be ever in your favor.. Mermaid style

For this assignment (3.5 stars) I had to take elements from different movies and movie posters and mash them into one. I decided to use Katniss Everdean from The Hunger Games as the new Queen of the sea because she had a photo from a movie poster that showed her in a Queen-like chair. Then I started thinking about different Kings in movies and the first thing that popped into my mind was King Triton from The Little Mermaid (this was my favorite movie growing up so I put Ariel in there too). Because I wanted to add a little bit more movie diversity, I decided to use the sea setting from Finding Nemo.

Putting everything together was fairly easy. I use Photoshop to do this but had to make the photo backgrounds transparent. I pulled a few tutorials online on how to use Photoshop to make a background transparent and it didn’t work. So I turned to my handy dandy website LunaPic and used the transparent tool to remove the background. After I removed the background from everything that needed to be removed, it was time to start layering. I added the background first and made sure it is where I wanted it to be centered. Then I started placing the images and editing the sizes of the photos to give them a little bit more dimension (longer, wider, etc.) I made sure to put each photo on its own layer so if something wasn’t right I could just delete and replace that image (I finally learned how to delete an image instead of starting over.. YAY!). Then I decided that something needed to be added to the poster so that it was 100% apparent what the story was. I toyed around with the different colors and fonts, length and size, and words.

My final poster is shown below! Are you team Katniss or Triton?!

Royals, Nets, and Wildcats..oh my

For this assignment, Your Favorite Teams Mashup, you were meant to create a mashup picture with your favorite team logos on them. Since most of my favorite team don’t really even have a physical mascot (except for the wildcats) I decided to make Willie the Wildcat the main part here. My favorite teams on this picture shown are, Kansas State Wildcats, Kansas City Royals, and the Brooklyn Nets. I used Photoshop to edit together and this project was pretty fun!

P.S. sorry that the Willie is a little fuzzy, I tried to find a large photo that wasn’t blurry/fuzzy, but with no luck this was the best I could do….

The Princess Bride Wars

Assignment 3: Movie Mashup (4.5 stars)

This assignment gave me a little more trouble that I thought I would have and in the end, I’m not really please with how it came out. However, here is what I came up with! My task was to combine two movies and make a mashup movie poster. To do this, I put two photos on a word document and put them together. I chose both of these movies because the names go together pretty well.

Who is Who?

Assignment 2: Mashing Friends and Emojis (4 stars)

This assignment was very easy for being worth four stars, but I will take it. I had to find a friend and take a picture of them imitating an emoji. This step was pretty easy as I was with a bunch of friends at the time. I chose my favorite emoji, which is the cute smiley face with the hands next to their face, and had my friend imitate the same look. Next, I saved both pictures to my phone, opened the PicStitch App, and put their faces next to each other.

Overall, a very simple assignment, but pretty relevant to our theme of the week.

The Best of Ross Geller

Assignment 1: Mashup (3.5 stars)

This assignment was a lot of fun for me to create. My task was to create a mashup of video clips of my favorite TV character. My favorite TV show has and always will be Friends. I have been watching it for as long as I can remember and it never fails to put me in a great mood. My favorite character, however, is something I can never be too sure about. Typically I go back and forth between Chandler and Ross. I know that everyone thinks that Ross is annoying because all he does is complain but I think he is one of the best characters on the show. So I decided to make a little movie of all of my favorite Ross moments.

Making this video took me a long time because I first had to think of all of my favorite Ross moments, find short clips of the scenes on Youtube, download them to my computer using ClipGrab, and then transfer all of the files into iMovie to mash it all together. It was pretty simple, but did take a lot of time.

I am realizing after finishing this that I left out one of the most important Ross clips: “WE WERE ON A BREAK”. I can’t believe I left out such a pivotal (lol get it) scene from this show, I hope all the Friends fans can forgive me. Please enjoy one of my favorite TV characters!!
