Assignment 2: Cover Combination (3 stars)

My task for this assignment was to make a mash up of an original song and a cover that has been done of it. I decided to go with You Spin Me Right Round originally sung by Dead or Alive and mash it with Flo Rida’s Right Round.  I really like both of these songs and they are similar enough where I thought it could sound cool.

I was very wrong. I think if I took several hours to play with it and tweak different things, it could sound a little better. But this present version is just very noisy and doesn’t really sound like music.  This is probably because it is the same song, and I think to have a successful mashup, the songs should be pretty different.

Nonetheless, I had fun with this!! I downloaded both songs with the LAME mp3 and then uploaded them to Audacity to create this awful song.

For this assignment I had to edit sounds into audacity to show an emotion. We were required to mash up at least 4 sounds to achieve this. I chose to create someone who has a fear of rain. I started by making the sound of a storm. I used http://freesound.org to find the sound of rain and thunder and mashed them together and moved the timing around for the cracks of thunder. I also made sure this faded in an out for a nice transition and to make sure it didn’t scare the person who was listening!

Then it was time to create my person. I used Freesound.org again to find a person crying (thank you person!) and found the perfect one. After this, I recorded my self sniffling because I couldn’t find something that fit just perfect. I made sure the man faded in nicely for a good transition again and then added my sniffles into his pauses making for a perfect mash up of fearful crying.

Then I found chattering teeth to place into the sound mash up for a small added effect and played with the gain so it wasn’t too overbearing and didn’t take over the piece.

Everything I did in this sound clip I was already familiar with (somewhat at least) but thought it would be handy to keep doing and getting better with (mainly transitions) because editing our radio show could really come in handy. We will need to make sure there are smooth transitions, nice sound effects that feel like they’re happening at the time it is played and not added later, and emotion that tells the story. I feel like I achieved this here. Not to mention I love playing with audacity! (:

Same Song, Same Thing

For this assignment, Covers By Different Artists- Same Song, we are meant to create a mash-up of a song that has been made into a cover by someone. The best and my most favorite example to use for this is “Tainted Love”. People think that Soft Cell where the first to sing this. Even though they were the ones to make it popular, they just did a cover of “Tainted Love.” Even Marilyn Manson has done a cover of this song! However the true original artist to sing this song is Gloria Jones in 1964, then Soft Cell covered it in 1981, and finally Marilyn Manson covered it again in 2001. Even though, I did not create this mash-up, it is basically the same thing that I was going to make. I wanted to see if anyone else made the same mash-up and it looks like “Pancake Dad” beat me to it! Anyway, enjoy this mash-up of all three versions, and be sure to listen to all three versions, for they are very different from one another!

I have used Youtube Doubler as my source to create a mashup. The song is called “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith. The 2 videos are covered by 2 different artists; Venosa and Alyona. This is one of my favorite songs and I like listening to it with both male and femal version.

This assignment calls for choosing a company and reinterpreting it’s logo in a way such that it reflects its competitor.

Process: The first rival companies to come to mind are Adidas and Nike. I began by taking the logo of each company off of Google Images and placing them into Photoshop. After searching around for the Adidas font, I subsequently realized I can’t access it or any very close lookalikes. This being the case, I stripped the word adidas from their logo, replaced it with Nike, and chose a font of my own (Verdana Bold).

For this assignment, we had to create our own audio assignment, it could be a mashup of music or sounds, all it had to do was be mixed.  For this assignment, I chose to create a mash-up of four different songs from the artist P!NK.  These four songs all show the different emotions that she was feeling when she wrote and sang the songs.  Each song is connected by a similar lyric from the previous song.  For example, in “So What” she beings the chorus with, “So what, I’m still a rockstar” and “Raise Your Glass”‘s chorus begins with “So raise your glass if you are wrong”.  These two songs are connected with the “So” from “So What” and the “Raise your glass” from “Raise Your Glass”

The point in this assignment is try to take two exact songs that are different versions and try to play them at the same time. The point is try to get the singers to sing together at the same time and have a mash up of past music and present music. For my example I mixed up a song from Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett with Cole Porter, the song is called Anythhing Goes.

For this assignment you had to make a story using at least 5 different songs.

Took me almost an hour to finally get it to post somewhere (which ended up being YouTube). Ignore the black nothingness of a video I had to keep on there so it would upload. *What I wrote when I thought YouTube worked.* Turns out they not only took my video down they terminated my account. So long story I short I finally finally got it to post to soundcloud. Hopefully this time it stays up.

There weren’t any examples for this assignment that would load and the details for it were kind of vague. So I winged it. Not sure if there’s much of a story, but mashing up a bunch of random song lyrics and putting them together was fun.

I wanted to use audacity for this assignment but the only video/audio editing software I have at home is premier pro. Although I didn’t use that either, I used iMovie on my phone since my phone holds all the my songs and music. So for being edited in iMovie I thought it turned out pretty decent.
