This Doesn’t Belong Here

This Assignment was supposed to combine two random movies and put them together. So I decided to Mash up my character with Darth Vader from Star Wars. This is my Western Gal shooting at someone, and she is with the “squad,” and that is Darth Vader. This assignment is starred 4 1/2, which puts me at 9 stars out of 12.  I had fun creating this project, it was cool picking out which movies I wanted to combine, because I love movies. Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 11.04.10 AM

10 seconds and 5 songs–can you name them all?

I came across this assignment and chose to complete it because I thought it would be fun to create a 10 second mashup of some of my favorite songs. However, it was a bit more difficult to create this mashup than I originally thought it was going to be. I chose five songs, each playing within the mashup about 2-3 seconds. In order to create this mashup I used audacity. As such, I first had to convert my chosen songs to mp3 format so I could import them into audacity. That wasn’t the hard part though, the hard part was determining where to cut each song so only 2-3 seconds would play! I didn’t want to make it too difficult for everyone to figure out the song titles and/or artists so I tried to use sections of the songs that would provide a good hint. I also tried to use songs that almost everyone would be familiar with or would have heard at least a few times before. I uploaded my mashup to soundcloud so you could give it a listen. Let’s see if you can guess the songs and/or artist!

This assignment was worth four stars contributing to this week’s 12 star requirement.

Name These Songs

For this assignment, I mashed together five songs into a 10 second slot. The real challenge is for you guys to name all of the songs (and artists)! Some of them should be pretty easy, but let’s see if you can get all of them!

This project was a lot of fun to make. I have become very fond of working with audio over the course of this semester, since it’s pretty easy to edit and rework. I downloaded most of these songs from YouTube using the MP3 Converter and uploaded them into Audacity, where I cut them down to fit in the requisite 10 seconds.

I tried to make the audio flow together pretty well, although most of these songs come from very different styles (except two, which I think will probably be the easiest to guess). I also went with kind of a theme to make the track make sense, which is pretty evident in the clip. So, while you should try to name the songs, also try to name the artists that go with each part! That makes it a little tougher. Have fun!

Big Lessons

I created this video in accordance with this assignment, which calls for you to take the audio of a film and put it over a video clip of a different movie while somehow relating them. I decided to put a little twist on this mashup by incorporating my character into this assignment. I took my radio commercial and put it over this clip from the movie Big as a means of sticking to the piano theme that Danny Keys has.

This assignment gave me a lot of unnecessary trouble. I recorded the video with OBS, although the video I used to record from was fairly low quality. After converting the video, I think the quality decreased even more. I then tried to edit it in Windows Movie Maker and the file was corrupt. So, I had to do the aforementioned process all over again. The second time it worked flawlessly and my video loaded up without any errors (although the quality leaves something to be desired).

I wanted to make this video something related to Danny as well as reuse some of my old content, so I went through my character-related posts and this one was the easiest to integrate into one of the mashup assignments. I’d like to reuse some more of the material we have created in this course, so hopefully I’ll be able to think of other ways to use the assignments to my advantage!

Merry Thanksoween

For my first mashup assignment of the week I did Holiday Mashup which is worth 3 1/2 stars out of my 12 total for the week. For this assignment you had to make a visual representation of your three favorite holidays. Personally, I just love all holidays, but I selected Christmas, Halloween and Thanksgiving. I first googled a picture of cartoon Santa. I then uploaded this to BeFunky photo editor. Here I was able to add the clip art images for both Thanksgiving and Halloween as well as the text. I could not figure out how to get rid of the shading behind the text though. I think it turned out well! It’s pretty funny! Made me want some Thanksgiving food!

Horrifying Plan Paid with Cash

Who can resist an opportunity to point out the Deer in The Headlights state many of us are in when it comes to the Trump Presidential Show? This mashup assignment allowed me to do just that: pick one line from two movies (cheated a bit with one being  a TV show) and string them together to make a new thing. Also, since I am the first to submit to this particular assignment, my submission is technically the best one ever (other than the original example).

This scary thing is the joker is looking sane and sensical and Trump is looking confident and unstoppable.

Highlight Reel of one of my favorite athletes

For this assignment I had to choose one of my favorite athletes and create a highlight reel video. I selected the famous ice skater, Carolina Kostner. She is an Italian figure skater and has been a role model for me since I was little. In 2003, the Figure skating world championships was held in Washington D.C. and I had just begun to take private lessons and was getting into skating so, my mom took me to the practices so I could watch the competitors. I was amazed and thought all of the skaters were great. I was allowed to get some autographs from the skaters. But, when I went to get Carolina’s autograph she was a lot nicer than the other skaters and to this day I remember that and how it made an impact on me. During that practice she was falling all over the place but just kept getting back up and trying again. I have watched her over the years and she continued to improve and become more consistent and as a result her placements improved. Some of her accomplishments include being the 2014 Olympic bronze medalist, 2012 World Champion, and five time European champion. Another reason she has been a role model for me is because at 5’7” she is very tall for a figure skater. Over the years I have been told by some people that I would be too tall to be skater or comments that are similar. But, just like she kept getting back up after each fall on that practice and has persevered, I have learned not to give up or listen to negative criticisms and comments from others who try to discourage me. So, thank you Carolina! Below is a mashup video containing different clips of Carolina Kostner skating. I created it using Windows Movie Maker then uploaded it youtube.

This assignment was worth five stars contributing to the required 16 stars of video assignments for this week.

10 Stars of Video Assignments

This week we were assigned to complete 10 stars worth of video assignments. I have linked them both below with a little description.

The first one I completed required I create a product commercial. Considering I had just gone to Wawa and bought a Peach Iced Tea, I decided to create the commercial off the tea. I first thought of how I wanted to film the video and thought about modern day commercials. I then incorporated shots with sound clips and audio, as well as text, to give it that ooh la la effect. One thing I do wish I could of change is that I wish I had bought a tripod prior to filming to reduce the shaking in the camera.

The next video I created was a “How To” video. I wanted to do a little spin off the assignment, and decided to create a parody of a “How To” video. My idea was how to become a video gamer, in a jokingly way, so if you do watch this video (and are a gamer) please do not take offense. This is simply a joke. To do this, I used my boyfriend who is seriously into popular video game, Super Smash Brothers, and directed the way I wanted the clips to be filmed. I then joined the clips with audio and a voiceover to create the final product.

My Favorite Thing to do

This week we were to complete one of the provided video assignments so, I chose to complete the video assignment titled “My Favorite Thing To Do”. For this assignment I was to video myself doing my favorite hobby and describe what I am doing in the video and why this hobby is my favorite thing to do in my spare time. So, I videoed myself skating. However, skating is much more than a hobby to me, it is more of a lifestyle. I practice and complete work out and stretching sessions daily. I began skating at about seven years old. I love the challenges it provides, as well as the ability to feel like I am “flying”. Because of skating, I have been very fortunate and have had the opportunity to not only travel to many different areas in the U.S. but around the world as well. I have been able to make many friends and meet people that share the love of the sport. But, of course it is just like any sport and there can be many frustrations, like days when your body just can’t seem to do anything right. However, I feel that moments such as these (among others) have taught me that perseverance and determination are key characteristics that not only can be applied to skating but also to life in general. Skating has taught me many life lessons but, I feel the most important lesson it has taught me is to never give up. No matter what you are going through, no matter what people say, you must not give up and you must continue to strive through the ups and downs to accomplish your goals and become the best athlete and person you can be. I used Windows Movie Maker to create this video of a mashup of some of my skating clips.

Remix A Song With Some Speech

*This assignment immediately caught my eye. I decided to mash up my favorite song (at the moment) and then the most impressive speech. So I chose MLK, I have a dream speech. I had to listen to both recordings a couple times to make sure the mashing up went together. Surprisingly enough I really liked how it turned out. I’m still figuring out how soundcloud works and which sounds they pick up on. But over all I really enjoyed this assignment and would rate it 5, because it was a bit tough to link two audios together and make sure it flowed well.
