This is my ds106 radio bump assignment. The course is based on Horror, I used a small segment of the iconic “monster mash” song in the background. I hope you enjoy it.
For this audio assignment I had to create or display an emotion through sound effects. I ended up finding a beautiful acoustic version of the songs “Here Comes the Bride” and “Falling in Love With You” mashed together. I knew as soon as I heard it that I wanted to convey the emotion love by playing music and sound effects that you would normally hear at a wedding.
In this audio clip there was the song that I mentioned above that I found on SoundCloud as the main song. I added the sound effect of the baby giggling and crying that I found on FreeSound because every wedding I have been to there was always a baby (I don’t know why but it’s kind of weird). I also added the sound effect of a woman crying that I also found on FreeSound but don’t worry, those are happy tears. I needed one more sound effect added to my audio clip so I put in the clapping and cheering that I found on FreeSound because there is always clapping and cheering after the big kiss at the end of the ceremony. My overall goal was to make the listener feel like they are at an actual wedding which would evoke happiness and love in the listener.
For 3.5 stars this week, I completed the Music Mashup Assignment. The purpose of this assignment was to take two distinct songs and mash them together. I chose The Phoenix by Fall Out Boy, and Alles Neu by Peter Fox. These two songs have similar intros, and I have wanted to overlay them for the longest time. So what better time to do it then now!
Alles Neu is one of my favorite songs by Peter Fox. He is a German artist and is also part of the group Seeed. The Phoenix is one of my favorite songs by Fall Out Boy, off of their album titled Save Rock and Roll. Here are the original songs:
Since The Phoenix was in M4A format, I had to install the FFmpeg Import/Export Library, in order to import that audio file. Once both were imported, I cut, clipped, and edited both tracks until the end product was something that I liked that sounded somewhat decent!
I realized after I had mashed these two songs that they have similar themes: starting over. The phoenix rises from the ashes, and “alles neu” translates literally to “all new.” They were just meant to be mashed!!
The big challenge came when I tried to upload it.. SoundCloud removed the Mashup and wouldn’t let me try to upload it again, so I instead just uploaded it directly to my blog. Check it out below, and enjoy!

For this audio story, I chose to do “So and So’s Greatest Hits”. I was supposed to choose my favorite band, artist or musician, and then choose 5 of their greatest hit songs. With this, we are then supposed to create an audio track with a mash-up of these songs! I really liked this assignment because simply, I love music. And by now, I am becoming more used to using Audicity, so it is easier.
I ended up choosing John Mayer after looking through my iTunes, since it was filled with his name! John Mayer is such a great artist, and I do love his songs. I saw him in concert so this was an easy pick.
First, I imported 5 of his songs onto Audacity. I ended up piecing them where I wanted them in order to create a mash-up. I used the “Time-shift” tool to move them around properly. I lowered the volume for some of the louder songs, and then faded them all out so each song flows into another! It’s a John Mayer masterpiece!
I enjoyed doing this! Each audio story I have made this week is original and I feel very proud after each is done, especially this mash-up one.

I chose to do the mashup of one of our favorite musical artists. I chose Hillsong United, a Christian band with roots in Australia. I love love love them and all of their music. I chose 5 different songs, and you will hear them in this order when you listen to my track: (1) Oceans, (2) I Surrender, (3) One Thing, (4) Still and (5) Touch the Sky. Below is how I completed the assignment:
Steak and potatoes with wine
Oh, steak so juicy and pink
With some California red to drink
Potatoes mashed with butter and salt
If it’s not delicious it’s your fault
Takes about an hour to make
Except the wine, that comes ready to drink

I wrote this post on Memorial Day, so we were doing dinner up. We bought a $50 bottle of wine and made everything from scratch. I was really proud of this dinner, so when I saw this assignment, I got excited. I opted to do it as a poem because I’m a musician, and I like to rhyme things.

My favorite holiday will be Christmas. Christmas beside that we celebrate the born of Jesus, is the time of the year that all my family gets together. It does not matter if they are across the continent, they gather together and we celebrate it. I started the tradition to take my little cousin (Allison) to buy a Christmas tree from the farms and put it together. We start celebrating Christmas on December 24 around 9 pm. My mothers and unties get together to get the cooking done. We are around 30 to 35 people on Christmas. So the cooking is big, we got pork, turkey, some tamales (maize cake fill out with meat or pork), rice, mashed potatoes, a cake, wine, homemade hot chocolate, paneton (sweet bread), and more. They start cooking early, while my little cousins and I start to put our ginger houses together (I started the tradition). Around 9 pm on December 24 we get together to have dinner, and we spend hours talking, playing games or watching movies. Around 11:45 pm my mother start filling champagne glass with champagne for the adults, and for the child ginger soda. Around 12 pm celebrate Christmas with a toast, and some words of the homeowner. The Christmas tree is barely visible because of the pile of present, everybody get a present from everyone. We start to open our gifts, here is where the fun start. We love to play tricks when opening the present , the way we do it is either by wrapping the present really bad (a lot of layer) or we hide the gift in another present, and let them open the decoy. This process can take up around two hours or so. By now it will be around 2 am, we start listening to loud music (lol) and drinking at least the adults. My little cousins start playing with their games or they fall sleep. If the house where we are is big enough, we will spend the night in there and have breakfast in the morning. Or we will leave and come back for lunch the next day.

In the realm of racing movies nothing gets bigger than the Fast and Furious franchise. However there is a competitor to the speed of the Fast and Furious cars, and HIS NAME IS LIGHTNING McQUEEN!
Lightning McQueen is the king of speed and a naturally nice car. He wins the heart of viewers in this momentous crossover between Fast and Furious and Cars, due to his super speed and friendly gestures towards the losers of the races.
This was for the mash-up for Ds106 worth 2 stars.
Bucket List:
Successfully complete a “Eat the whole thing and your meal is free” challenge. – You never have to pay for a meal again, because you won’t feel like eating ever again.
Go Skydiving – Weightlessness? Screaming? Sounds good
Get struck by lightning – only so many people can claim they have done this
Get Struck by lightning while skydiving. – Self explanatory
Smash a stone statue – Of course not one that is actually in use or on display. I just always wanted to see on break in real life
Devote a really powerful supercomputer/network to just running an infinite loop- Bow before me my computer underlings.
Own a black lotus (the mtg card) – The legend itself, the ultimate nerd-have item that you don;t have to be a collector to obtain, just pretty rich.
Pass ds106 – This might be a problem at the rate I’ve been going…
Wear a fedora – seriously, one day I hope to be classy enough to pull off the fedora. Until I reach that level, I am not wearing it, it just happens to be on my head.
Write a rant book – because no one knows how to debate anymore, I will write a one-sided piece of literature that explains why people are terrible at arguing their views.
For my 3rd and final Assignment Bank project for the week I have created a 10 second mashup of throwback songs! 
This assignment is worth 2 stars which puts me over the 8 star requirement with 9.5 stars woot!
I already had these songs in my iTunes so I just cut them up into small pieces and put them together with the AVS Audio Editor which I love^^.
The songs used were SOS by Rihanna, Hips Don’t Lie by Shakira, and Lollipop by Aqua.
