Let’s all party like it’s 1699!

This was a fun assignment! I got to listen to some music I hadn’t heard in a long time, and I learned another neat trick with editing GIFs. The project asked me to find a musician I like and make a GIF of one of their music videos.

I wanted to make this post a follow-up to the animals’ post I made earlier! So the trick to this assignment was to find the video itself, which was not that hard. YouTube again failed me as they did not want me to download videos; however, I am including a link to the song because the video I ended up using was pretty low quality. Keep in mind the video itself is a bit old.

Internet Archive had the video I wanted. They are a great resource, and they even have the WayBackMachine, which lets you see how the Internet used to be at any particular date!
After downloading the video, I uploaded it to this site, which allowed me to specify timestamps that I wanted and converted it to a GIF. After that, it was just finding the right pieces I wanted!

The program I used for the converting is at this link.

What Makes You Beautiful

Choose your favorite musician, and then head to Youtube and pick one of their videos to make an animated gif of. Try to use the best quality video possible, preferably HD.

For this assignment, I was able to select my favorite musician, or in this case, musicians. If you know me, you would know that my favorite musicians/boy band is One Direction. The gif I have created below is from the “What Makes You Beautiful” music video. This song to this day still makes me want to get up off my feet and jam! Every time I hear it, I can not help but feel elated. I think this song was very creative, and it is a shame that the band has broken up now. Their music was actually easy to listen to instead of all the current music that is out now. It also helps that the One Direction boys are easy on the eyes.

what once was

I’ve been listening to Her’s a lot recently. I think I found them on Tiktok. I made a gif of them performing the song “What Once Was” through the Giphy website, which wasn’t too complicated:

Animated GIF

First, I search the YouTube video, then uploaded the link to Giphy, and created the Gif using their webiste. I picked the duration and timing of the gif, and edited it. Since I have used the website a few times before, it’s definitely gotten much easier.

Their songs were very nostalgic, so I definitely wanted to capture that in the gif, and I think it turned out well!

For the Favorite Musician GIF assignment, I decided to make a GIF of Kendrick Lamar. He is my all-time favorite rapper, I have been listening to him since I was about 12. Again this GIF was pretty easy to make with the giphy.com website however, I did struggle to find a decent video to use the GIF for but this one for the song, “King Kunta,” was perfect.

This GIF assignment had me choose one of my favorite musicians and make a GIF out of them. I chose Jack Johnson since he has been one of my lifelong favorites. I got the video for my GIF from his music video of “You and Your Heart”. I chose this video because Jack Johnson’s music videos sometimes have live footage of him surfing and it would make the GIF more interesting than just him singing. Like my other GIF assignment this week, I used the website GIPHY and created an account. Since this was my second post using the website, it took only a moment to create and the longest part of the process was choosing the right video.

Musicians Get Animated

Good evening! This animated gif challenged me to make my favorite musician’s video into a little gif. My favorite singer is Taylor Swift. I’ve loved her since I was eight years old and I even saw her in concert when she had only one album out and she performed as an opening act for Keith Urban! As I got older her music matured at the same rate I did, and as a result I just never stopped listening. Taylor just dropped her album, Lover, a few weeks ago, so in honor of that…

Here’s a gif I made on Giphy of Taylor from her video ME! feat Brendan Urie.

This actually isn’t my favorite song on the album, but I love how fun this video is. Making a gif on Giphy is as simple as it gets! All you need to do is get the URL upload of the video you want the gif to come from and you trim to the part you want. I always assumed it was difficult to make gifs but I’m glad I know how to now!

Here’s my 80s content bonus gif:

This is a little part of A-Ha’s Take on Me video which I always thought was super cool. It blends drawings with real life in an interesting way and who doesn’t love this song? This scene also just screams the 80s.

Favorite Musician GIF

For my second animated Gif project this week I decided to create a Gif of my favorite musician! My favorite musician is Adam Young, who is better known as the one man band of Owl City. I have been listening to his electronic songs since I was in middle school and have always loved his creative melodies! I decided to take a clip from one of his best known songs, Fireflies.

I created this Gif by using Giphy.com once again by uploading one of Adam’s videos, Fireflies, from YouTube and deciding which five seconds form the video looked the best! I tried to get as much of him in the five seconds as possible, though there are many visuals in the video so this task deemed a little tricky.

While using Giphy.com, you can add titles or words along with your Gif, so I thought it would be fun to add his artist name Owl City over the Gif in a font that sort of resembles the font he used for his earlier albums.

I think this was a fun task and nice way to remember my favorite artist!

Harry Styles GIF

I decided to do the “Favorite Musicians GIF” prompt for my first animated GIF assignment.

For the longest time, I was a huge One Direction fan. Now that they’ve disbanded, I don’t particularly follow up with any of the members, except for Harry Styles. To this day, he remains one of my favorite artists of all time. Since all of the members have gone solo, I have only really listened to Harry’s music. I like it so much because it wasn’t the typical pop music.

This gif is taken from a video on YouTube of Harry singing one of his songs, Two Ghosts. I chose this specific video because I thought that it was better than making a GIF from a concert video.

To be completely honest, I had a hard time figuring out how to make a GIF. At first, I tried working with GIMP. It was difficult because I didn’t have any photos to chose from. I tried taking screenshots from the video but that was inconvenient. Then I looked for another way and found GIPHY.com I didn’t like the outcome because the turn out was blurry. Then I went back to the assignment prompt and followed someone’s tutorial. This was the blog post that helped me:

Following the tutorial, I typed in “gif” in front of the word “youtube” in the link of the YouTube video. This took me to a website called gifs.com where I chose the start and end time to the GIF. Once that is done, I clicked “Create GIF” and downloaded the final GIF.

I chose to wait and take a clip from the middle of the video. The GIF starts with Harry Styles looking into the camera while still singing his song. I thought the GIF turned out great!

Favorite GIF musician

I choose Cardi B because she is hilariously funny in my opinion and she is just bold. I also added Calum Scott who i also like, because his rendition of this song was just amazing so i just had to add him. This whole assignment was just so effortless.

Favorite Musician Gif

For one of my GIF assignments, I chose to do the band X Ambassadors. They have been one of my favorites for a long time now and I wanted to pay homage to that. Their lyrics for almost all of their songs have such deep meaning and can be analyzed for great discussion. They push positivity and self love and many other great things that inspire people. With that said, lets talk about actually creating the GIF. As for that, it was actually pretty simple. First I went on Youtube and found a video of them preforming their song Unsteady live. Then I went over to giphy.com and used their Youtube to GIF converter and that was about it. Just choose the start time and duration and you’re good to go. Enjoy the GIF and if you have some free time check them out, they’re a great group of guys!
