Wonder Week Two

This week I began with doing my first daily create. I actually loved these! There is really no parameters. I like this because I get to be creative! My favorite daily create was the robots fourth law. I was able to use bender from Futurama! Futurama is an adult animated comedy show and bender is one of the characters. I was able to take a photo form the internet and add a mustache and gold tooth! I was able to then make two more daily creates!

Then after the daily creates were done I was able to go on to the assignments page and create three different assignments. My favorite activity was the Sports Gif. My boyfriend plays on club soccer and he kept telling me to us Neymar for this week!  So finally I chose this Neymar trick! I think this Gif turned out awesome!

I felt like I was really pushing my creativity this week. I really enjoyed changing my theme for my website and personalized it! I decided to look online for a superhero word press theme. I was able to download it and use it for my theme. I then personalized my website some more by changing blog names. I liked being able to personalize my webpage because it helped me experiment on word press. I was able to add in a plug in to block add comments.

Finally I was able to go on a google doc and contribute to the class design. I was able to come up with a few ideas. I was placed in the audio group. I came up with two ideas, but mostly leaning towards the voice over.

I didn’t really struggle this week with any of the activities. If anything it was just managing my time for the class. I figured out that by doing a little every night I was to not be overwhelmed and actually enjoy creating things. I have really enjoyed this class so far and I am looking forward to the following weeks.

Russell Westbrook: Triple-Double Record+ Game Winning Shot

Hi Everyone,

for my second assignment I chose to create a GIF of what, is in my opinion, the best sports play from the past year. The best play I’ve seen in sports this past year was EASILY when Russell Westbrook, of the Oklahoma City Thunder, broke Oscar Robertson‘s all time Triple-Double record.

Westbrook broke Robertson’s record in the 4th quarter and received a standing ovation; it is not common for a record as accomplished as Robertson’s to be broken. After Westbrook achieved his 42nd triple double of the season, he found his team down 103-105 to the Denver Nuggets. With only 4 seconds left, Steven Adams passed the ball to Westbrook, who immediately threw up a near impossible three-point shot. To everyone’s amazement, the shot fell in and my jaw hit the floor. I am no Oklahoma City Thunder fan (I prefer the Washington Wizards), however, the effort and finish by Westbrook was of nothing I have seen before in basketball.

I made this gif using makeagif.com

Odell GIF

I created a GIF of the sports player that I think has done the best this year (at least as a wide receiver)

ODELL BECKHAM

This is a gif of one of his best catches

6’11” = No Problem

This is my second GIF assignment this week. I chose this assignment for the same reason why I chose this last assignment, I love sports. I wanted to be able to create a GIF of what I thought was the best sports play of the year. I chose to go with basketball because it is my favorite sport and I am able to relate to how outstanding some of the plays are.

After watching the NBA Award Show I was able to find this video on youtube.com of 6’4″ Victor Oladipo dunking on 6’11” former NBA defensive player of the year Dwight Howard. This is an outstanding play because not only does Oladipo dunk on him, but he was able to change his direction and move the ball away from the defender in midair. He was able to steal the spotlight from his NBA superstar teammate Russell Westbrook for a few moments when this happened. He went on to win NBA Best Dunk of the Year and in my eyes the best play of the year.

Assignment: Best Sports Play

I created this GIF on giphy.com.

Step 1: Copy and paste the URL from the video you want to use.

Step 2: Move the sliders to choose where in the video you want your GIF to start and how long you want it to be.

Step 3: Click the “Create GIF” button at the bottom.

Step 4: Click “Download” on the right and then click the top option “Source file with no edits.”

Best Sports Play GIF – Ozuno of the Miami Marlins

For this assignment, I was to create a GIF of what I considered the greatest sports play of the year. I am a big baseball fan, serving as the captain of my high school team and an overall, all around avid baseball viewer, so quickly I knew to go to baseball for an outstanding play. I, as most baseball viewers am always a big fan of a big time catch, notably one’s that will “rob” a home run. I remembered Ozuno of the Miami Marlins making this outstanding catch earlier in the season and knew I had to choose it. For this assignment, I went on MLB.com and found the catch. I did a screen shot of 7 different second intervals from the time he got to the warning track, to his leap, to his catch to his feet hitting the ground following. I tried to slow down the GIF and I hope that shows in my post.

My favorite sports play in a Gif!

This is a Gif of David Tyree, of the New York Giants, making a nearly impossible against catch against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLII in 2008.  Right before the catch was made, Eli Manning made an insane escape from pressure to avoid a sack.  This catch set up the game winning touchdown, which declared the New York Giants winners 17-14.

I remember this play vividly in real life.  My parents had thrown a super bowl party at our house, and had a bunch of their friends over.  There was food everywhere, and music before the game started.  But as soon as the game started you could hear a pin drop while the ball was ever in the air.  When the Giants were down 10-14 in the 4th quarter with the minutes twiddling down, my parents were about the lose their minds.  This all changed when Eli was about the lose the game by getting sacked, but then made a miraculous escape and got the first down with this catch. The house erupted.

The create this Gif I simply went to giphy.com.  At this site I then clicked on Create in the top left, and went to youtube to find the highlight of the game. Once i found the highlight I copied the URL and pasted it where it told me to in Giphy and it created the Gif which I then downloaded to my computer.

AnimatedGIF Assignment 1780

I found this GIF of what I thought was one of the most amazing sports plays in recent history, as the player literally did a flip over the top of the other player in order to score a touchdown. Pretty amazing in my opinion.

Tennessee Hail Mary

One of the most exciting moments of the 2016 college football season thus far!

Aaron It Out

This particular assignment caught my eye immediately because I am a HUGE sports fan! The assignment is to make a GIF of the best sports play, in my opinion, from the past year.

I instantly thought of the NFL football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions.

Aaron It Out

As you can see in the GIF, the Packers were down with 0:00 seconds left in the 4th quarter. It sounds like the game should be over, right? Wrong! ? The Lions got called for a face-mask penalty during the previous play which gave the Packers one more snap to pull off the win. One gigantic problem is that the line of scrimmage was on the 39 yard line – the Packers own 39 yard line. I still cannot believe that Aaron Rodgers threw a Hail Mary pass to Richard Rodgers who was positioned over 60 yards away in the end zone to win the game for the Packers.

I have learned two lessons in completing this assignment:

  1.  No matter what, always watch a close sports game until they declare the game final!
  2. And more seriously, I thought about the GIF that I captured and how the whole process relates to the Internet. Without the Internet I would not have even been able to access the video of this play in order to make the GIF. At the same time, since I have the Internet and access to Giphy I was able to frame the video to play to the Packers’ advantage and lessen the controversial comments about face-mask penalty. Some people might not have seen the game live and they could watch this GIF and think nothing of the Packers having one last – last shot to win the game. The Internet provides a great platform for sports replays and highlights, but it also allows the presenter of the media to edit what he or she wants the viewer to see. This can be innocent or part of a planned strategy.
