My Sound Story

What’s it like to wake up in the morning? Well in this story, you hear some yawning, some rustling to get out of bed, and then some walking to the bathroom. There you hear the morning pee, the toilet flushing and hand washing/drying. Next, you hear teeth brushing. That’s how my morning always starts. Below [...]

Audio Assignment: The Contest Nobody Could Win

I didn’t see this assignment until later after I finished the 4 stars, but I still wanted to try it.  The assignment was to t”ake six very short fragments (less than one second each) from six different songs and ensemble them into a single piece. Expect others to guess which six songs you have used. Basic rules: 1) do not repeat songs 2) do not use covers (unless the cover is much better than the original, sh*t happens) 3) John Cage’s 4’33” is not a song!!! See it played out on WKRP

EDIT – I tried this again, making the clip shorter, so watch them in order!

I would tell you the songs, but you have to guess.

Assignment worth 2 stars.

Character Bird Call

This assignment was to create a “call” that would attract the attention of a certain character.

My favorite  TV show is How I Met Your Mother. My favorite character is Barney Stinson, a witty womanizer. A call that would get his attention is the cry of  a vulnerable women, which would allow Barney to use his pick up lines on her.

A perfect example, Desperation Day

Sound Effects Story

My group for the Sound Effects Story consisted of myself, Maura Monahan, and Nick Antonini. Since the morning routine cliché was shot down by Jim Groom, we had to create our entire story in twenty minutes. Like the rest of the class, our minds went straight towards tragic accidents. We decided to start by laying down the scene for our story. The birds are chirping and the weather was nice enough that our main character decided to take a walk down the street. We used footsteps and whistling to portray the man’s enjoyment of the nice day and the sounds of traffic so you would know he was near a roadway. We let this take up a decent amount of time to set the mood and add suspense. Then all of a sudden out of nowhere the man screams (for this we used the famous Wilhelm scream). Then we inserted the common sounds of a car accident: wheels screeching, vehicle parts flying, ect. After a short silence you begin to hear the ambulance approaching in the distance. We used freesound.org for all of our sound effects. Our Sound Effect Story can be found here:

AudioAssignments36: Radio Bumper

RadiobumperDS106 by annie_belle1 This is my first-ever shot at making a radio bumper. I got the inspiration from this assignment posted by Jim Groom. I did some research, but I’m not 100% sure I understand what a radio bumper is. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a sound effect or a mash-up of [...]

I can be difficult

http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/may-i-take-your-order/ I work at a Chick-Fil-A so I just put in some of the more difficult things that people actually ask for. I don’t really have any good accents so I just went with whatever that is lol. It’s different than my normal talking so I guess it works. I used the app for soundcloud [...]

Are you up to the challenge?

For this audio assignment, http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/the-contest-nobody-could-win/, I decided to randomly pick 6 songs from my computer’s music library.  I did however stick to one genre, country  To me I don’t think it’s difficult to tell what the songs are but for other people, y’all with have to let me know. This assignment was fairly simple. All i [...]

Three Dog Night Ringtone!

For my last Audio Assignment, I chose to make my own ringtone, worth 2 stars. I wanted to do this one because I usually feel like the songs that I like don’t have ringtones on iTunes, or they don’t have the right part of the song as the ringtone. So now is my chance to actually make a ringtone that I like!

I decided to do “Shambala” by Three Dog Night. This was partially inspired by the fact I spent most of the afternoon sorting through old records for a volunteer activity, and Three Dog Night albums popped up multiple times. I also wanted to do an older song that is less likely to have a ringtone already made for it (though it may, I’m really not sure). So here it is, Three Dog Night for your listening pleasure as your phone rings:

The project was pretty easy, the hardest part was deciding which part I wanted to be the ringtone! Audacity makes cutting out parts of the track very easy, though. So once I decided on my selection, I made the first couple of seconds fade in, and the last couple of seconds fade out, because I’ve noticed that most ringtones – that I’ve had at least – have that fading.

Nightmare Sounds!

For this assignment, I used various sound effects from Sound Cloud to create the sounds within a dream. Obviously, once you hear it, it’s apparent that it’s a nightmare. Throughout the piece, I had a storm playing in the background, and over that I inserted various noises with a little echo effects to create a horror environment.

Movie Voice Machines

3 Star Assignment

Process

I knew from the beginning I wanted to make a voicemail of the legend….wait for it… DARY character known as Barney Stinson from How I Met Your Mother. I looked up several youtube videos of Barney to familiarize myself with Barneys character again. From there I made several recordings and this was my best product. No one but Neil Patrick Harris can replicate the awesomeness that is Barney Stinson

Motivation

I just wanted to be awesome like Barney. Even though I have seen every episode of How I Met Your Mother it is still impossible for me to replicate him well. The confidence that Barney exudes and his quick wit is something I wish I had. Oh well, I suppose many want to be as awesome as Barney.
