Collabo

This is a rushed posted, as I am about to leave for real-life things. I will update more thoroughly when I get back. The concept behind this assignment is to take musical artists that you like and make a collobaration with an instrumental background.

I chose to use some rap songs because I found it easy to work with the tempos.

Process

For this video I had to first think of a good idea. I first considered using Harry Potter or possibly the Matrix. However, after sifting through youtube videos I realized the old anime  dragonball z offered some very memorable speeches. The most memorable of which is Goku’s speech to Frieza right after he turned super saiyan the first time. I then watched a youtube clip of his speech. While watching I copied down the conversation between Frieza and Goku. I then recorded my version of the conversation via soundcloud.

Motivation

DBZ has got to be one of the most cheesiest animes/shows I have ever seen. People literally spend 10 mins powering up and sometimes it this tension is built up over several episodes. I wanted to capture and expand on some of the ridiculous things that go on the show. In particular he kinda sounds like he is from the bible when he says I am truth. A bit much I believe.

Avarizia: a joke about greed, apples, and Italians

I always liked the “Make ‘em Laugh” audio assignment which charges you with telling a joke in a language other than your native tongue. But rather than telling a joke in another language, I actually recorded Antonella telling a joke in her native Italian while at the same time contextualizing the joke for her audience. The most interesting thing about oral culture, and jokes in particular, is just how contextual, dialectic, and specific to a time and place they always are. So enjoy this joke about greed at the expense of the inhabitants of Val di Non,  a Valley just north of Antonella’s home town Trento, Italy.

Audio Assignments!!

My first Assignment that i did was to make a ringtone, the thing said for it to be 30 to 40 seconds and mine is only 13 so maybe its more a of text tone, but i chose wind and water because they just go well ha! I also wanted to make it less ringtone like because i like when people use strange sounds and noises for ringtones, before i uploaded music to my iPhone my ringtone was the duck quacking! I got these sounds from freesounds.org !

This was my kind of southern accent while placing a strange order at McDonalds, every time i listen to it i laugh lol but i hate recording my voice it is just so strange to me ha

I chose to read the activation guide that came with my replacement iPhone 4 because those 3 simple steps are crucial to a successful activation ha.

Process

Not really too much to report on the process. I already knew how to make a good Hispanic accent, since I am Hispanic ;0. Went to soundcloud and started recording with no real plan. I just said the first words that seemed natural to me and I believe it turned out well.

Motivation

Fun idea. I am very interested in viewing other recordings to see which accents they used. Not only did I include an Hispanic accent, but I also included a side conversation with my mother. I wanted to capture the overprotective Hispanic mother stereotype, so hopefully people can understand my spanglish.

Voicemail Assignment

This is my recording for the Movie Voice Machine audio assignment.  Julia Child was a real person but she was also a movie character played my Meryl Streep in Julie and Julia so I figured that tweaking this assignment was allowed.

I still don’t know why people spam my WordPress with weird comments, but they do.  Here’s an example for the Taking Back Spam audio assignment:

Raging Bull Radio

This week I wanted to challenge myself with this awesome assignment for DS106 radio which turns a movie into a good radio show. In essence, my goal was to transform a movie’s soundtrack (music, dialogue, sound effects) into a condensed abstract version of the film. Ever since I read the details of this assignment I have been eager to tackle Martin Scorsese’s film Raging Bull.

The Process:

At first, I tried to learn how to rip audio from a video. After watching several tutorial and playing around with iMovie for far too long, I admitted defeat.

Next, I found high quality recordings of the film and used my computer’s internal recorder to capture the audio. I did struggle with trying to reduce the horrendous feedback noise. I succeed in mitigating some of the feedback but not all of it- whatever. After a few tedious hours I had all of the audio I needed.

My goal was to capture the artist feel of the film, and the contradictions of the main character, Jake LaMotte’s identity . For those of you who have not seen this film 1) shame on you 2) it will change your perspective on Robert De Niro’s skillz as an actor (damn you Meet the Parents).

Jake LaMotte is a famous boxer that is emotionally self-destructive. He is violent with a hot temper, which makes him successful in the ring but destroys his life outside of the ring.

A key element I wanted to focus on what the role of Cavalleria Rusticana’s song Intermezzo in the film. This song is played throughout the film and is implemented during high emotional moments.

Overall, if you have seen the film then the narrative will remind you of different aspects of film, however, if you have not then you might be a little confused, all the more reason to finally go and see this film!

So without further to do- Raging Bull in four minutes:

Audio Assignment – Make’em Laugh!

Happy People

So here is the assignment, which I have copied and pasted from here Find a good, brief joke in a language other than your mother tongue; if you don;t know any other languages this might be a good way to start learning. Record your voice telling the joke focusing on pronunciation and try to make it sound as natural as you can with appropriate vocal inflections. Add a (cc) music track underneath (maybe from jamendo.com) and a laugh track (soungle.com is a good source) at the end. I got the joke from this website.  This joke is not that funny, but I did recognize some of the words, and that was what got me to use it.  Spanish is not my native language as you can probably tell.

Here is the joke:

Unos tíos están subidos a un árbol cuando les ve un policía.

Some guys are up in a tree when a policeman sees them.

- Pero, bueno, ¿ustedes qué hacen ahí? Venga hombres, bajen. ¡No sea que se caigan y se rompan algo!

“Well, what are you all doing there? Come on men, come down. Let’s not have any of you falling and breaking something!”

Y cuando llegan al suelo…

And when they arrive on the ground . . .

- A ver, ¿ustedes quiénes son?

“O.K. now, who are you?”

-¡Pucha, qué memoria! ¡Los del árbol!

“Geez, what a memory! The ones from the tree!”

I creepily took the photo for this post from Create Commons on Flickr, here.  They just looked so happy.

Assignment worth three stars.

Record a Difficult Macdonalds Order – Audio Assignment

Drive Through For this activity we had to record a difficult Macdonalds order. A really good assignment to practise that moment at drive thru when you hear those words ‘ Welcome to drive thru…May I take your order please’…

This was a really fun activity!
