Commercial

To create a commercial related to a tv show or movie I chose to make it a general “superhero” theme. I think the ad, which claims to make cloths that give you superhero abilities, would work best on Cartoon Network, or other channels that have show with animal superheroes  (such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). This would also work with anime shows, such as My Hero Academia, where the cast all have their own quirks, some of which are animal quirks.

I recorded myself first all at once then I cut out the award silence bits. I sped up the recording to make the commercial shorter & to change my voice. I used the background music of “happy, little tune” from freesound.org.

MAGIC POP! Commercial

For this assignment, we had to create a commercial around an object our favorite TV character would find useful. Though I do not have a favorite TV character, I thought I would use Archie Andrews from Riverdale because the season just started on Wednesday.

Just in case you don’t watch Riverdale, let me give you some background knowledge. Archie Andrews, one of the main characters, is being framed by his girlfriend’s parents for a murder he did not commit.

This is where MAGIC POP! comes into play. It can make all your worries disappear, or in this case, those annoying parent-in-laws?

To create this assignment, I recorded myself using Audacity. Then I added royalty free music to the background.

This is what I created.

Pet Healing Amulet

For this assignment (3.5 stars), I wanted to create something for my group’s radio show. I tied it into my character by having the ad be about a pet healing amulet. My character is a pet rescuer, so I thought this would be the perfect product to advertise. I started by writing a script and thinking about all of the commercials you hear on TV and the radio. Many of those ads are over the top and pretty unbelievable, so I added some of those qualities. I then recorded the ad and searched on freesound.org for animal sounds. It was hard to pick the sounds because there were so many options, and I wanted it to sound realistic. I decided to mention the price of only two payments because that always amuses me in ads. I really like the idea and how it could be something my character, Kate, uses.

Until next time,

Vampire Repellant

First, for 3.5 stars I did this assignment to create an advertisement for our group’s radio show!

Since our show will be a news show, it will make sense for us to have many commercials. This commercial is one advertising a vampire repellent, professing how effective and wonderful the product is! The reason I chose this particular topic is because it will relate to one of our upcoming news stories about my character being discovered as a vampire living among us, which would obviously cause uproar in the community. So people would be in need of a product like this one! I went for a slightly comedic and upbeat tone in this one, and I had a lot of fun writing the script for it, especially since it’s a fake product and I can claim it does whatever I want it to do (it’s up to you whether you think it’s actually effective or not). I like how this one turned out and I can’t wait to use it on our news show on the DS106 radio!

My approach to making this, was to first write a script and practice reciting it, then recording my voice over of the commercial. I used Audacity to add some copyright free upbeat music to the commercial. Surprisingly, this time I found it easy to use Audacity now that I’ve practiced, however, very difficult to find copyright free music that would be appropriate for my commercial!

Wrist Wrangler Commercial

I used the DS106 Radio Commercial Assignment (worth 3.5 stars) to work on our broadcast. Since my character is Manny (The Super Nanny) I made something that he could use. I recorded my own voice in audacity and used freesound.org to find the background noises.

Assignment Bank 1 (Week Seven):

DS106 Radio Commercial

For the next two weeks, I am going to be working on producing a radio show with three of my peers. This week entails a lot of tasks to get us standing on our feet so we can take off running next week. Therefore, I decided to create a radio commercial as a sort of interlude to my character’s portion of the radio show for next week. Professor Bond said that we could twist the assignments to fit with our shows. Thus, my radio commercial is an alert message for the show. Below is my commercial and how I created it:

Creating this commercial was fairly easy:

  1. I went to youtube, found a video that embodied the sound I was looking for, and then I converted it to a mp3 so I could download it.
  2. I imported the audio to Audacity
  3. I opened up a new Audacity window to record and distort my message to overlay the alarm track
  4. I saved and then imported my oral message to the Audacity file with the alarm track and boom, done!

Commercial for Agents on Air

For the commercial, I tried to think of something that agents might struggle with. Then I came up with the idea of “Dare2BeDoubled”. This company would make a robot that was so realistic that even your closest family couldn’t tell the difference between you or your double. It would solve the problem of living a double life for agents and I thought it was a great idea!

Extraction Agencies

I did the the DS 106 Radio Show Commercial assignment which was worth 3 1/2 stars. Now this particular assignment specified that the goal was to make a item that would be useful to a tv show or movie character. It wanted it to be at least 20 seconds long and include background music or sound effects. Now I’d like to think that I stuck to the character of the assignment but I also bended it to better suit an idea I felt would be awesome.

So when I was trying to come up with ideas I was sitting in my room which has a loud dripping sound of running water. I thought about how it reminded me of a cave and how in lots of secret agent or adventure movies people very frequently run through caves or sewers or dark spaces with dripping water. So I thought what would agents in those situations want most? To get back home. So I thought up an idea that sprouted from a commercial I already made for the course on real estate. What if you had relocation specialists who would help agents in dire situations when their agencies were not giving the proper assistance.  So in my loose connection to a tv show I thought of the show Burn Notice where the premise revolves around an agent who has been burned from the agency meaning they cut all ties and he has to restart on his own. I decided to take that concept but amplify it for the needed product. While Burn Notice takes place in Miami surely other agents are left abandoned in far worse and more dangerous places so I decided to frame the commercial around that context. So the item I was selling was extraction service and what spy can’t use that?

Next I had to go through what exactly that service would entail I decided to try and keep it vague but focus more on the flexibility of the fake company. I also wanted it to be a little goofy in context but delivered very seriously. The name of the fake company was Cuevita Limited. Originally I was going to make it cueva which is literally just cave in Spanish but then I added ita as a diminutive which is usually used for affection or to denote smallness. I decided to do it to abstract the word some more. I also ended up not correctly pronouncing cuevita in the ad and went with the new pronunciation to add another level to the name. I personally like the idea of picking names for things that have a symbolic meaning or reference but then changing them slightly so the meaning is not overtly outright.

I wrote up a script and started practicing it then I went to free sound to help find some background sounds to make the clip sound fuller, plus that was in the assignment. I decided to make the audio sound like it was in a cave since the gimmick of Cuevita Limited was that their agents could be found in exactly the same awful circumstances agents found themselves in. I found a nice audio of running cave water by system_fm and decided to layer that with my audio speaking. Since I was also using water as a sound I recorded it while still in the room with the dripping water sound so that it was muffled in the background and added a different water sound that went with my voice. I messed around with the levels for the background cave water so that it was noticeable but did not over power my voice. After a few takes and messing around I got something I think turned out pretty well.

I think what I liked most about this was the concept. I am not sure if I hit the right tone of it with my voice or not. I did several versions with different tonal inflections to try and decide but I went with serious for the final cut.

Gods Away Spray

Naturally I chose another television crossover assignment that could be doubled as an advertisement for the radio show.  I liked the idea of evaluating the difficulties in a protagonist’s life and seeing how those needs could be met.  My mind immediately went to Xena, a hero who often struggles against meddlesome Greek gods.  I decided to create what is essentially a repellent against these deities.  I then wrote out my script in the most cliche As-Seen-On-TV style possible (lots of set-up questions, describing/playing up the solution, etc.).  I recorded this piece in audacity, and added the Xena theme song as background music.  The result is below.

I have to say, I think the best part of the whole commercial is “simply spritz, spray, and watch the Greek god fade away!”  I don’t think I could have come up with a better line than that.

Radio Show commercial!

I completed this assignment to be featured on our class radio show, ds106 radio. It is based on my western character I created this semester. Her name is Talie and she is a cowgirl in a little western town who runs the family ranch. You can read more about her here. She takes care of all of the animals on the ranch especially the cows. She milks them every day and then rides into town and delivers the milk to the local store. As such, in this commercial she is advertising the milk she sells at the store in town. To promote her cows’ milk she focused on the health benefits milk can provide. I used audacity and freesounds.org to create this audio commercial.

It is worth three and a half stars adding to the 10 star requirement for this week.
