Guess the Song

This assignment was more tricky than expected. In this assignment, I had to cut down my favorite song to 30 seconds and remove the lyrics so that people could guess what it was. It sounded pretty easy, but it turned out to be more time consuming than expected. I figured I should pick a different favorite song than Kenny Lattimore’s “Never Too Busy” since it would be obvious from my previous favorite song post what song it is. So I decided to pick another favorite song of mine that I heard as kid.

I imported the song into Audacity, and looked up on Google how I could remove lyrics using Audacity. I followed the directions from HowtoGeek.com and played it. I could still barely hear the lyrics, so I decided on a different approach. This time I found the instrumental of the song on Youtube, and converted it to a MP3. The last thing I had to was cut it down; and I couldn’t figure out how for about 10 minutes. Then after trial and error I finally figured out how to cut it down to 30 seconds. Even though it sounds like there might voices, that is part of the background to the song and are not actual lyrics to the song.

After I had finished with cutting down the song to 30 seconds and removing the lyrics; I tried to post it to SoundCloud. But every time I posted it in SoundCloud, it would get removed due to copyright issues. So I figured the only way you could hear the song to be able to guess was to post it into this post.

Here are some hints on what song this is:

  • This song is from 1995 and the singer is a well-known R&B singer that has had drug abuse issues
  • The song is the title of his debut album
  • This artist took 5 years to release his next album, and 15 years for his most recent album

Guess What Song

So for this assignment, I chose one of my favorite songs ever and I’m hoping you guys can guess it! It’s kind of an old song (think like middle/early high school), but it’s SO GREAT. I used Audacity to remove the lyrics which was not very easy to do. I had to re-do it a couple times to get it to sound okay. Now because it is an older song, I will give you a couple hints:

  • this band is still around today (and still wonderful)
  • they’re a boy band
  • they would be considered pop punk/alternative

Comment below and let me know what you guys think! :)

Favorite Song

Hey everyone! This is one of my favorite songs I hope you can find out what it is without the words! Good luck!!!

I found this assignment to be a little more difficult than I originally thought.  I had no trouble finding the music without the words; where I found the difficulty was in embedding the music to the site for only 30 seconds.  This relates to digital storytelling because it portrays a song that I am a huge fan of to everyone on the world wide web.

What’s that song?

“Take your favorite song. Remove the lyrics. Play only up to thirty seconds of the song. Listener must be able to guess.” – 3.5 stars

So this assignment was a little unclear to me. I wasn’t sure if we needed to just provide an instrumental version of our song or actually go through and remove the lyrics ourselves. I went ahead and provided an instrumental version because I could not for the life of me figure out how to take to voice out of a song using audacity.

I won’t name the song here, but it’s one of my absolute favorites, especially this particular version of it. It’s played by a group called the Vitamin String Quartet, and they do fantastic covers of famous songs. Can you guess what it is?

Any guesses? The original music video is posted below. Were you right?

To do this assignment, I used youtube to mp3 to turn the video into a file compatible with audacity.

converting

I then imported the video and clipped out all but the first 30 seconds of the song, as the directions stated.

Once I had done that, I exported the final product and uploaded it to my soundcloud!

Favorite Song

This assignment is Favorite Song, and it is worth 3.5 star. This assignment asked to get one of my favorites song and cut out the lyrics (it was hard) and then play 30 secs and see if people can guess the song. I hope someone can guess the song.

It was pretty easy to find your favorite song, the difficult and lengthy part is to get the lyrics out of the song. It looks like Audacity did not wanted to cooperate with me. It took me several attempt to get it, and even then I could still hear the voice of the singer in the back. It was faint but you have to know that he is singing.

Favorite Song

This was an Audio Assignment and it was worth 2 and a half stars. For this assignment I had to take one of my favorite songs and have the instrumental play without lyrics for 30 seconds and hopefully someone will figure out what it is! Post in the comments below to give your guesses and I will respond! Good Luck!

)( Whats That Song? )(

So for this Audio Assignment Bank project titled “Favorite Song” (2.5 stars), I had to take 30 seconds of my favorite song and take the lyrics out of it so that people have to guess what song it is from the background music.

This was not easy. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do this. I eventually learned that I had to invert the right part of the stereo sound and then convert the whole thing to mono and it still has a little bit of vocal in it and its really bad quality. I did what I could. XD

I doubt anybody can guess what it is because its from a Japanese band although technically the song is in English. It doesn’t sound like English though.

The answer will be linked here!

I bet you can’t guess this song….

Assignment #1

Here is my assignment #1 from the audio assignment bank, it was called Favorite Song at one and half stars. For this assignment I had to create a sound clip of just the instrumental part to a song , for people to guess and see if they know it.

Here are the steps for this assignment:

  1. I went to the assignment bank page on the ds106 website.
  2. I went to page 3 of the assignment back page and found the assignment Favorite Song.
  3. I went to YouTube and found an instrumental version of my song.
  4. I then took that link and pasted it in the YouTube converter.
  5. After it converted the link to an MP3 file, I imported the link onto audacity.
  6.  Once the song was imported into audacity I used the cut button to cut out 30 seconds of the song.
  7. I converted the segment I made to an MP3 file.
  8. I then took that MP3 file and downloaded it to soundcloud

I had fun making this assignment mainly because I learned a new skill. This is the first experience I’ve had with making an audio story. This assignment was easy to make once I figured out which buttons to use. Hopefully my audacity works again soon so I can make more audio files.

Take a Wild Guess

Favorite Song (1.5 Stars)

“Take your favorite song. Remove the lyrics. Play only up to thirty seconds of the song. Listener must be able to guess. “

I was more than happy to do this assingment. I have always wanted to know how to take lyrics out of songs and now I do! I will now begin forcing all of my friends into a karaoke night at my house at least once a week. Not really. But really.

If you go to a previous post you will see the programs plugins I downloaded and the steps I took to import the file into Audacity and and export it as well.

Now I would like you to listen to the lyric-less song and see if you can figure out what it is. No Shazam!

Have you figured it out yet? I’ll tell you. It’s Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’.”

This is my all time favorite song and the album that it’s on, Full Moon Fever, is the most amazing album I’ve ever heard. If you’re from my generation, you may have never heard of this song, or Tom Petty but I think it’s truly beautiful and has always had a way of calming me down. My mom used to play the Full Moon Fever album when we would just go driving around on Catawba Mountain so I think that is why I find it relaxing. It’s always so tranquil driving around in the Appalachian Mountains. I love this song and this album so much that I did a report and presentation on it for my English class in high school. It’s such “freeing” song and really cool album.

Removing the lyrics proved to be super simple once I imported the song from my computer. I followed a tutorial I found and it ended up being easier than I thought it would be. Below you can see what the song looked like when I first imported it.Screenshot (11)

First I had to split the clips up by going to Edit –>split

Next I had to change just one clip to Mono.

Lastly, the tutorial told me to go to Effects —> Invert. As you can see below.Screenshot (12)

Then I followed the assignment instructions by cutting the song down to 30 seconds. I did this by selecting everything except the first 30 seconds. Then I went to Edit –> Delete. That was it! Pretty simple procedure.
