Bad Service on the Death Star

This is the movie voice machines assignment worth 2 1/2 points.

I had a ton of fun with this. I knew it was an assignment I wanted to work on right away when I read the description, but I wasn’t sure what character to try and tackle. I quickly realized that finding uniform sound clips to fit into a coherent, specific message would be difficult for the circumstances, so I went a different route. After playing around with Audacity’s various tools and effects, I realized that a simple combination of lowered pitch and added echo creates a rather convincing Darth Vader effect. Naturally, I went the humor route and had fun doing so. It’s a silly sort of thing, but I think it’s at least worth a chuckle. The Imperial March theme music is just icing on the cake.

Hey Sasha Kellogg, Are You There?

Movie Voice Machines (2 1/2 Stars)

So I chose this audio assignment because my group was able to incorporate voicemails into our radio show to do as audio assignments. So I was to create an assignment where Sarah Mustard is trying to get in contact with Sasha Kellogg, but Sasha Kellogg doesn’t pick up, so Sarah has to leave a message. I started out by recording the actual text I wrote for the message and then I began adding different sound effects. First I got the sound of analog telephone dialing, because the story is supposed to take place in the 1950s. Then I inserted the sound of a telephone ringing followed by the sound of a “phone bump” as the sound was called which I thought sounded like the sound of a phone click. I also put that sound at the end of my message. Then I thought it would be cute to have Sarah’s cat meowing when he hears his name, so there is a cat meow in the middle of the message as well. This audio was not too difficult to create and edit together. The most challenging part I felt was getting the inflection of my voice just right for the message, so I now see how the radio show will be a challenge.

Even though the assignment was to take a TV or movie character, I figured that this would be fine, since Sarah Mustard is soon to be the star of an up and coming radio drama.

Veronica’s Answering Machine

2 1/2 Stars

On a typical day Veronica has a very busy schedule. She is usually found at her place of work, at the Hideaway Lounge, 9 times out of 10. This audio clip is what you hear if you called Veronica but she was too busy to answer.

For this project, I decided to add some small aspects about Veronica’s character: her job, love of music, hometown. It wasn’t hard to create a message, I found it was easier to type it up first and read from that. For some extra flavor I gave the answering machine a musical background. Music is a huge part of Veronica’s life, so its not unlikely that while recording her message she was listening to music. To do this is used Audacity and over laid the message with some 1940s music I found. I also added the contact information for the Hideaway Lounge since Veronica is their lounge singer, a very popular one there in fact.

Marcus made a Voicemail…

Movie Voice Machines – (2.5 Stars)

Marcus just realized that his parent might call him to see how is doing. So, he quickly made a short voicemail. Although part of him feel this is a complete waste of time, he may receive an important message in the future…..

I chose to do this audio assignment because I wan’t to give the audience of better idea of the mindset of Marcus. Right now, he is a shaken, stubborn, annoyed and still a bit depressed. He still has a long way to go until he sees the light at the end of a very, very, dark tunnel.

Another Answering Machine

I know I won’t get credit for doing another answering machine assignment, but I wanted to do another one anyway. I have always loved the Hannibal Lecter series of films, and Anthony Hopkins. Hannibal was on tv last night as I laid down for the night, and I immediately thought of this assignment. So here’s another one!

Audio Assignment 196 Movie Answering Machine

I remember the days of getting home to my empty apartment and going straight to the answering machine to see if I had any messages. Sometimes I did, other times not. Sometimes they were good messages, other times they were from the ex wife digging for more money. But the answering machine became an integral part of my daily routine. I also like Gilbert Gottfried. He is a comedic genius that definitely does not get his due. I recorded my impression of him with one take and no script. I just let it fly. I then uploaded it to soundcloud, and now, I give it to you.

Audio Assignment #2: Elle Woods’ Voicemail

Delta Gamma Nu and always in pink: Elle Woods from Legally Blonde. An instant classic. As a blonde, this film was one of my absolute favorites growing up. At the peak of middler school era “dumb blonde” jokes, this movie always gave me a positive outlook on being blonde. While they sexualize her in the movie, she proves herself to be competent and beautiful. WHAT ELSE COULD A WOMEN ASPIRE TO BE?!

However, she is girly, which I thoroughly tried to play up in the voicemail. *Kisses* as a sign off sounds very “Elle.”

Movie Voice Machines -ds106 Audio Assignments 7/10/14 #2

This one is a stretch, so please bear with me. The concept seem much funnier in my head. But there are a couple of contextual cues in my piece, see if you can pick them up. This assignment was fun, but it was a challenge!!

If you don’t figure out, you can find out the answer here.

Please Leave A Message After The Beep… BEEP….

What a challenge! This challenge was a ton of fun! All you do is pick a character from a movie or a tv show and create a voice message as that character! It is a lot of fun and get creative! I used my favorite audio app SoundCloud! I love this app! I used the character Charlie from the episode in the Twilight Zone: “The Monsters are Due on Maple Street” He is a strange character that lives on Maple Street! He is kinda crazy! So I had to create a voice message for him! He is very suspicious of everyone as being a monster so I couldn’t resist! Listen to what Charlie has to say when he misses a call!

What would a different character’s voice message by?

Leave your message after the beep.

Beep.

Consuela Answers

I decided to incorporate Consuela from Family Guy into my answering machine assignment.  I used an answering machine jingle from a Family Guy episode and had Consuela interrupt my message.

This is the youtube video that I used most of the dialogue from and the assignment can be found here.
