I miss my hometown!

I would like to introduce my home town, Ichiki-kushikino city!
The place I grew up is so country side where many nature occupies most of the area. hehe
We have beach, rivers, mountains, many rice fields, etc.
So all foods are so fresh!
Interesting events too! Like Tanabata festival! We parade down the town with giant handcrafted animals and people with drums all day.
I am a member of Ichiki youth group.
Our group hold a beach volleyball competition at the end of summer vacation every year!
So many paticipants from all over Kagoshima come for this competition, so it is a pretty big event.
In this competition, we also have some other events like beach flag competition.
It is really fun event!
On spring, a park called Kannongaike Pond gets full with people to see Cherry blossoms.
The view are amazing with 1000 tree of cherry blossoms.
We have a Sakura festival during the time, and so many people hold their “cherry blossoms viewing party.
The process to edit this image was so simpe.
I used powerpoint to? combine all the picture. I feel it is a lot easier than other functions.
I am currently living in Tokyo where it is so crawded with so many tall buildings and houses.
I often wish I could go back to my home town to relax in beautiful nature.

Greetings

I finally started working on ds106 assignments.. I know it’s pretty late but anyways I will do my best.

Assignment I chose this time is ”Greetings from ds106“.

All my classmates would know it but in case you are not from TUJ or whatever, I’m here from Tokyo, Japan. I’ve heard that Tokyo is the second largest city in the world! I’m not sure, I may be wrong. I’ve never lived out of Tokyo so I cannot compare with other cities however.. I love being here at this moment.

If I describe Tokyo just 3 words.. fun, colorful and crazyyyyy ;p
I’m not big fan of Japanese cartoons but people influenced by those wear the animation costumes and I think it is one of Japanese culture and it’s fun to see them. And if you went to the city, you can see that almost all buildings have signboards which have many colors. And finally the reason I described Tokyo as crazy is that although Tokyo is literally small city (the second smallest prefecture in Japan), there are sooooooooooo many people here like about half of Japanese citizens are here in such a small place. Lack of place to live is serious problem so we have tall taaaaalllll buildings. A problem is that they prevent us to see whole beutiful sky though :(

So, this is the greeting from Tokyo :)
I hope I can explain it well..

And sorry I edit this picture by iPhone. I wish I could use Photoshop or any good editor on the internet next time.

Greetings From DS106 (Digital Storytelling Assignment)

Welcome to YOYOGI

This is my third Digital Storytelling Assignment. This time I picked up the assignment from the design category. What I had to do was just making a postcard of my home town. Yoyogi is the place where I live now, which is located in the central Tokyo. I love this town for several reasons: It’s next to Shinjuku, the largest station in Tokyo and really convenient to go everywhere in Tokyo (Many train lines come in). There are a huge number of restaurants around the station which keep me exploring one after another (and it doesn’t seem to end.) On the other hand, the town is also surrounded by the natural environment. You can walk to Meijijingu, the largest shrine in Japan, and Yoyogi Park, which is also the largest in the central Tokyo. I put all these factors into the postcard so that the viewer would recognize the diversity of the town.

For making this postcard, I used Picasa for the first time. It’s very useful especially for this assignment since it has the feature to make a photo collage automatically from several photos. You can also retouch and adjust the photo image without knowing how to use it in detail. (It’s very simple!)

I hope you can also feel the atmosphere of my home town a bit from this postcard.

? Going Home

I grew up in a small town called Fairborn that was situated close to Dayton, Ohio. We moved when I was 11 and haven’t been back in a very long time. From what I understand the town is suffering with job loss and many folks having moved out of the area. I found a ds106 assignment that asks you to create a postcard of where you come from. I had no idea how important this assignment would become for me this evening.

I apologize for the large size of this file but I wanted to have some motion to my image so animated gif it is, and it’s a big one. I happened to find a video of someone driving through Fairborn on Youtube. To you this moving image will mean very little, to me it’s my childhood and I can’t look at it without a wave of emotion coming over me.

Design Assignment: Greetings from London

Greetings from DS106: Tell us where you are, where you’re from, or simply where you’d rather be and build a greeting card.

London Greeting CardSo, I created a postcard for this assignment and decided to make it from London, England since I’ve had a little crush on this city for a while–especially since I started watching the BBC’s fairly new TV series, Masterpiece Mystery! Sherlock.

I spent most of my time in Adobe Illustrator for this assignment. I used Photoshop to re-size the images.  I also went to ColourLovers to get a sense of the palette I might want to use.

To be honest, I’m really displeased with what I have here.  It doesn’t look authentic to me. But, every work I create isn’t going to be perfect or up to my standards, and life goes on. Alas!
