Mmm, delicious unicorn

I have to give my husband credit for setting this up for me to find. I took and then edited the picture, though. I went with a sort of flowery text to contrast with the horrible (but probably delicious) unicorn meat.

Neighborhood Watch

My saluki hounds are notorious for keeping a close eye on critters, people, and vehicles that come near our house. They are the original “Neighborhood Watch”

I’m just here for the treats

Image 7-1-15 at 1.11 PM

I took this picture of my dog back in February.  For some reason I really wanted a picture of hime where he was looking right at the camera because he never does that.  So I held a treat behind the phone, so it made it look like he wanted to pose.  The secret is out now.  I thought it would be great to caption what he was most likely thinking.

I got this picture from my flickr account.  I uploaded it into my paint app and added a text box.  He’s saying “She thinks I’m posing for this picture but I’m actually just waiting for that treat she’s got in her other hand.”  Which is honestly what all dogs think about sometimes.  This is great for digital story telling because without the caption, one would look at it and say…”what is the point?”

Assignment Prompt

Design Assignment #4

keys

This design assignment is called The Little Caption and the description for this assignment was to take a photo that you had and add a caption to it in order to make a story out of it. I took a photo that I had from my trip to the Florida Keys in May, and added a caption to it using Aviary. I added the caption that I did because the Florida Keys are a place that I really enjoy and always look forward to getting back to.

I believe this assignment tells a great story and relates heavily to design storytelling because it is literally a visual, one photo story. It shows an event in time and through a clever caption, tells you a story.

Rampage: Attack on Denver

I was initially excited to see that this week’s assignment was “design.”  I must admit I read what seemed like every assignment and none stood out to me.  I finally found one that was called the little caption.  The assignment was to take a picture and add a caption.  That seemed WAY to easy and kind of boring so I “remixed” a video game picture.  I am a very big fan of Super Nintendo (I like to keep it old school) so I figured I could find a game case and redo it to match my focal theme.

I hate to admit how long this took me to edit (a bit over 3 hours) not including actually writing this.  I began my research by googling “why Denver is awesome.”  I found three websites that confirmed the epic-ness if you will, of Denver.

I decided I liked the Denver skyline and I saw a lot on sports so I went with that theme.  I found this picture of the Denver skyline

and this picture of a video game cover.

I finally conquered using paint; I know its amateur hour over here.  I completely erased the skyline and attempted to draw Denvers according to the picture I found.  I am no Picasso but I tried.  Then I drew “Colorado” shirts on the two main characters that represented Bronco’s and Rockies’ fans.  I used the “snip” option on my computer to snip pictures of actual t shirts that were being sold online.  Pretty clever I know.  I asked someone in my office (YES I was working on this on lunch), who the Bronco’s rival was and I was told the Oakland Raiders.  I have no way to know if this is accurate but I went with it.  I found a phenomenal site that let me turn my text into “8-bit.”  I am not sure if I will ever visit this site but I had a lot of fun playing with all of the options to change your text.  This site is free by the way.

The finished product is pretty great if you ask me.  I learned a lot about Denver just from reading articles for inspiration and even though it took me a long time to work on this, I could probably keep going with my idea’s. Any feedback is always appreciated!

The Little Caption

No matter how hard he tries, he is still bat shit crazy to me.

No matter how hard he tries, he is still bat shit crazy to me.

We all know who Ted Cruz is by now, if you didn’t, he is that other crazy bastard from Texas who wants to be President. He says more selfish, back wards, not coalition building stuff than any other candidate (including Rand Paul). He has a huge base with he Tea Party crowd (a majority of which is comprised on no educated southern Caucasians), but other than that he is a dog and pony show who has no real intention of winning a national election or even a single primary state.

Hair Dye

For this Assignment, worth 2 stars, we were asked to caption a picture.  One mention was to look at the flickr creative commons, so I found a lovely picture.  I took a screen capture of the photo then cropped it in paint.  I uploaded the paint picture onto pixlr.com and then used their text option to add the text onto the photo.

I found the photo comical because the person in the photo clearly has a lovely stripe in her hair (to each their own), but if a professional were to dye someone’s hair like this, it might be questioned.  She also has a ribbon/bow in her hair.  The caption “I swam 1.5 miles. My hair is still wet. Then I made anchovy wine sauce for a bowl of acini de pepe. And taught dad to make pumpkin pie. And I found a bow.#Fridays” makes it even better seeing it appears to be a serious post.  Also reading this, there is no mention of the hair dye, just that it is wet.  So I decided to play on the hair dye and caption it as seen below:

The Key to My Heart

For this assignment (worth two stars), we were asked to create a caption for any picture we wanted.  I wanted to do this assignment because it gave me a reason to share a picture of food.  I decided I wanted to create a caption for this meal (which was amazing) I had in Ottawa, Canada.

The hardest part for me was creating the caption.  I had so many different ideas but nothing fit well with my picture.

seriously

I wanted to change my picture but thought I should use it to show what people eat in Canada (which is not much different from us).

To do this, I scrolled through my pictures that were saved on my computer.  I found the picture and uploaded it to Photo Notes.  I added text to the picture and then saved it to my computer.

The Little Caption of Big Misunderstanding

The little caption assignment worth 2 stars was quite simple. We had to find a picture and add a caption to it. For this, I put the show on full screen, then took a screen shot, and uploaded it to word. The caption I added was my take on what Bodie was saying in the scene. He was telling Stringer that while the police have his fingerprints on the gun, they are wrong. He also figures that because the police let him go, he is off the hook. Anyone who has watched a police show knows that they will get him.
