FINAL PROJECT: Peytonnnn

Peyton Sawyer from “One Tree Hill” is a character that in the beginning represents the definition of a “stereotype”. Her character is misinterpreted completely and through her confusion within herself she becomes a mystery to everyone. What people think of her…… isn’t who she is ……. What she sees is simply …….. a MYSTERY. This Pinterest site created by Peyton exemplifies who is is, what people actually think, & the mysterious secret that no one knows about her ….that Peyton Sawyer can see EVERYTHING.

Get a little glimpse of Peyton… HERE
(Although DesignAssignment563 suggested a screenshot, I made an entire pinterest instead.)

…. Peyton has spent all of her life in a small town where everyone knows everything…. The person that she is today has a lot to do with growing up in Tree Hill. This poster that she made represents the loneliness that she experiences along with the desire to want MORE. One Tree Hill is a mystery within itself…. where are all the other trees? Why does Peyton always feel so alone?
(Inspired by DesignAssignment57 asking for a poster of a tv show location)

One Tree Hill Poster

Along with my mysterious town….. I wonder who’ll ever figure me out? I find myself feeling like a puzzle sometimes. A stereotypical high school cheerleader with an awesome boyfriend and a “great” life…. Who am I? Why don’t I know? I see sooooo many weird things on a daily basis, when is it all going to be figured out? I know I ask a lot of questions…. but when I figure out the answers, you’ll be the first to know. – Peyton has always been a form of mystery, to herself and to her surroundings. Her creativity and artwork show her secret cry for help, her cry for attention and to no longer feel alone.
(Inspired by DesignAssignment64 to caption a photo found on the ds106 flickr page)

Mystery?

Peyton was always known by her love for music music and her meaningful artwork…Although no one knew what she was feeling at times, her music always seemed to tell some type of story… It was as if she was writing poems to express what she saw, that no one else saw. Or even what she felt… that no one else was aware of. The world around her was always so confusing, but one thing she knew was that she had the support of her father who was always there, since her mother had passed. This iTunes playlist that Peyton created simply shows her hidden feelings in the way her Playlist is organized. It’s almost as if she’s crying our for her help, or thanking her Father for always being there….
(Inspired by VisualAssignment46, to create a poem playlist.)

Peyton's Playlist

One of the amazing things about Peyton … is her ability to talk and express herself, even if she is confused and can’t put everything together. Peyton holds a Podcast (nearly every night) and talks about her day … to the public viewers online. The idea of her being a mystery to herself changes once she posts all of her stuff online and expresses herself as well as seeks for help. Through this podcast the world learns about Peyton Sawyer…. and over time she’s more than mysterious…. she’s finds her place.
(I created a video using clips off of Peyton’s actual podcast from “One Tree Hill” and inserted photos of Peyton and her artwork.)

GAR: MANLIEST FISH IN THE SEA

In internet fame, especially among the anime community, there is a concept known as GAR.  It came originally from a typo on 4chan, after the Fate/Stay Night anime aired where someone exclaimed that a character known as Archer was so incredibly awesome that he was now “Gay for Archer.”  However, the speaker mistyped, and instead produced “gar for archer.”  Ever since, awesome and badass things were known as “GAR.”  Of course, then there’s this fish…

The Little Caption… 2 Stars

I did the assignment The Little Caption. I chose a picture from the Creative Commons portion of Flickr. I chose this picture because the small child on her dad’s shoulders looks really disgruntled. The first thing that popped into my head was “wow, that would suck if she pooped.” So that became my caption.

Napping….always better with a buddy.

The Little Caption design assignment I thought was a really cute idea, worth 2 stars.  The first image that came to my mind was of my dogs napping and how they always are cuddling.  Also sense I am tired a nap themed assignment photo seemed fitting.  I found an image that I took of them napping and uploaded it into gimp. I then added a little caption “Napping: best done with a buddy” to help added a theme to the image.

Once the image was created i saved it and then uploaded it onto flickr where I applied the tags: DesignAssignments64, DesignAssignments, puppies, cuddling, nap, and ds106.

The Little Caption of Corgis

After seeing this assignment, I knew I would find a cute derpy corgi and make him cuter. I also decided to make a little tutorial on how to make this with the text and box. This corgi caption is based off of this meme, in case you didn’t catch that.

Edit: I choose the placement for the box simply because there were some hairy legs in the picture and they were distracting from the cuteness. I suppose thats a design element of some type. I choose the font color because it popped and the red in the tennis “berz” kind of matched. And the font I choose because it was pretty close to the one used in the original meme. :)

First, I duplicated the layer in case anything went wrong, I could go right back to the original:

Then, I renamed the layer by right clicking it and naming it Dupe and hitting enter. Then I created a new layer by right clicking Dupe and hitting New Layer:

Then, from there I selected the “rectangle select tool” (highlighted in the upper left of the tool box and drew a rectangle where I wanted my white box to be (note I did my work and this tutorial at different times, so they are different boxes and fonts and such):

Now I have a white box in the layer “Layer”!:

Then I selected the “Text tool” (most left column in the middle, capital “A”) and wrote in the white box what I wanted to say (note: using the text tool will create a new layer):

Then, to make it look a little better and polished, go back and click “Layer” with the white box. Above the layers, there will be a bar that says “opacity.” Drag  the bar or click the arrows to make it look “polished” to your satisfaction (this is set to 57 in this example):

Voila! You’re done!

Toucan Sam?

Take one of your own photographs, one from Flickr Creative Commons or one from the DS 106 Flickr group and caption it.

I used a picture that I took last year for this assignment. In Word, I used Word Art to create the caption. Then, in Photoshop, added the two together.

This picture was from a family vacation to Panama. We were driving out to a rural coastal town and stopped at an open air restaurant on the way. Surprise, they had toucans! I was fascinated because I had never actually seen a real toucan before. The toucans, however, were more fascinated by the skirt I was wearing. The caption came to me instantly. If I think of toucans my mind immediately goes to Toucan Sam and his Froot Loops. Now, with the caption in place, the entire meaning of the picture has changed. The attitude of this avian went from inquisitive to impatient. Obviously, Toucan Sam also has relatives that he doesn’t like to talk about.

Hungry?

I took this picture  in church a couple of week ago, when my cousin, Mariah, was eating a pop tart and not sharing. Every time someone someone asked her for a piece she would give them this look. When I seen the option of making a captioned picture I knew this would be the one.

I again used a photo editor called “PicsArt” and started with a blank project. I uploaded the picture and clicked the option of “Add Text.” Then a white box popped up that allowed me to add the text I wanted. (I had to do this twice, once for the word up top and then for the words down bottom). I dragged and dropped the words to where I wanted them and that was it. Her face and the caption work perfectly.

The Little Caption

As you can tell from last week, I like to take pics of people when they fall asleep. For some reason I find it hilarious. This entry is for http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/the-little-caption/. Used http://wigflip.com/roflbot/ to add caption. Don’t fall asleep around me!
