Changing Character… Kind of

So I attempted to include the URL from YouTube, but for some reason it wouldn’t work. But for this assignment, I didn’t necessarily choose a character that drastically changes. I did however choose a character from a show that has been on the air for a realllllly long time so I think it still shows some changes. I think it also goes deeper than just her age. It shows the hardships that she went through, and her emotions throughout the show.

I use MP4 downloader to get the clips from YouTube (I attempted to get clips from the first episode of each season, however some aren’t from the very first episode). Then I got an instrumental version of How to save a life. Cut down the clips in iMovie. And that’s it.

A Changing Character

I am using this assignment for my mashup. Instead of a character, I decided to to Taylor Swift album covers over the years. I didn’t include any of the extended edition album covers, but I think the 12 I put do a good job of showing how much she has changed and her album cover style over the years. I made this with Microsoft Powerpoint and used the transition effects and exported it as a video onto YouTube.

Road to Hokage

Assignment

This week I have to complete 8 stars of Mashup Assignments. I already completed 3.5 stars for my Luigi’s Crossing: Animal Mansion 3 post. I will be completing A Changing Character for 4.5 stars, bringing me to 8 stars for this week. Summary: For this assignment you need to pick any character and follow their progression that they have had (TV characters from a long standing TV show will probably be best). Use video clips to show how the character has changed and grown up over time. Try to make their progression seem as dramatic as you possibly can.

Behind the Work

The first anime I ever watched was Naruto/Naruto: Shippuden. I skipped all of the fillers, but it still took me several months to watch all of the episodes. During my first year of college this is all I watched; it was a great distraction from work and life. During my freshman year I wasn’t mentally in a good space and Naruto was like an outlet for me. Because of this, Naruto holds a special place in my heart and it’s helped me realize I really love anime! My favorite characters are Gaara, the Kazekage of the Sand Village, and Rock Lee, shinobi member of Team Guy.

Gaara

Rock Lee

My favorite scene of the whole show is when Rock Lee uses drunken fist in a fight.

Although these two are my favorite, there aren’t as many scenes with them in it as there are of Naruto. Naruto is the main character and continues to be throughout all 41 seasons (20 seasons in Shone Jump’s Naruto and 21 in Naruto Shippuden). That’s why I chose Naruto to use in my changing character video.

During the Work

I started this assignment by finding each season’s opening. It was tedious downloading each video from YouTube in y2mate.com, so I found a video with all 20 openings from Naruto and a separate video with all 20 openings from Naruto Shippuden:

Naruto Openings:

Naruto Shippuden Openings:

I then imported both videos into iMovie and split each video into segments; one for each opening: 9 Naruto and 20 Naruto Shippuden. Next, I went through each opening and found a section with Naruto in it; everything but these clips were deleted. Then an into and outro were created using Canva; these were added in their respective spots. For my final touch I muted each clip and imported the Naruto theme song:

A Changing Character

4.5 Stars

For this assingment, I had to choose a character and show them growing up. I decided to show Matthew Lewis growing up. I mainly used Harry Potter photos since he did Harry Potter for so long.

In case no one knows, Matthew Lewis plays Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies.

I really enjoyed this assignment because I love Harry Potter and I think Matthew Lewis has the most remarkable transformation.

A Changing Character – The Making of a Spy

This was probably one of my harder pieces I put together. I knew I had to have something that related to my spy and so  I decided to tell the story of how she grew up doing normal things, went to college and graduated, and then met the individual that would turn her into a spy. Obviously since my spy is not real I had to take pictures from the internet but for this video just pretend they are all the same people! I used iMovie to make this.

Gabrielle: A Changing Character

My love of all things Xena: Warrior Princess should be well documented by this point, so it’s no surprise that I decided to try my hand at this assignment.  I’ve always been particularly impressed with Gabrielle as a character on the show.  She has an incredible growth arc, evolving from a naive farmgirl to a warrior over the course of six seasons.  To depict this evolution, I selected clips from my collection of Xena DVDs and arranged them in CyberLink PowerDirector.  I chose to use the song Sol Invictus by Audiomachine as my source of music, layering this audio over my footage.  The result is a fairly epic video provided below.

Leonardo’s life in the spotlight

This assignment used the same basic idea as one I did last week. The emphasis here, though, was to show the age progression in the character and not just highlight some of his interesting roles. I chose Leonardo Dicaprio as the focus for this assignment since he has such  long film history and most of his roles were big enough to make getting good footage easier. I tried to use his best roles, but many of them were left out as I found that I wanted to use the clips themselves to tell a story inside the story, inception story style, fitting for the subject.  I start with Leo getting your attention, an interview with him as a young man talking about his Oscar prospects, and them move though his career. I tried to make the clips flow with one another; I move from his anguish over his mother’s death in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape to his own anguish and death in Romeo and Juliet. Then, he is on the titanic talking about waking up and not knowing here he will end up, then he is on a plane in Catch me if you Can. In the inception clip, he is talking about wondering how “we” get here, then I cut to the climactic end clips of Wolf of Wall Street and Reverent. After that, he is giving his Oscar (or maybe it was the Golden Globes but he did win an Oscar) acceptance speech for Revenant where he is talking about the story of the journey in Revenant, but I frame it like he is talking about his life and career.  In each of the clips, where possible, I tried to cut on his face or really near to it so that his age progression is noticeable. Also, in the sections where the camera spends a long time focused on someone other than Leo, I use a blur filter to make it clear the importance of his face.  Also, to make it smooth, the only place I fused two scenes facing him together, I used one of the movie maker transitions to make it not choppy.

That’s My Little Girl

Oh, Haley

Assignment:A Changing Character 4.5 Stars

Assignment Description: For this assignment you need to pick any chacter and follow thier progression that they have had (TV characters from a long standing TV show will probably be best).  Use video clips to show how the character has changed and grown up over time.  Try to make their progression seem as dramatic as you possibly can.

Gets me every time: So I decided to do this character evolution about Haley Dunphy. Modern family is one of my favorite all time shows, and Haley is one of my favorite characters throughout it. Since the first season of the show, she has learned so much. She has grown from being a little girl who made lots of mistakes and had a lot of struggles to be a grown woman who wouldn’t be anywhere without her family. I think this video is a great demonstration of all of these things.

iMovie is magic: I have come a long way with video editing. After doing the video group project from last week, I have learned how to use movie maker for cutting clips, adding transitions and other things. This process started with me downloading youtube clips of Modern Family. I uploaded all of these clips to iMovie, and started the editing process. I cut down all the clips, and added transitions. Finally, I uploaded the completed video to youtube and embedded it here.

Boy Meets World: 20 Years of Love

For this week, the first assignment I have completed is called “A Changing Character.” In this assignment, you take your audience through the life of a TV character by mashing up pictures of them over the years and putting them all together.

I chose to do two characters from one of my favorite shows growing up, Boy Meets World. I chose these two characters, because these characters literally grew up together on the show as a couple. Their names are Cory and Topanga and they are the big love story on the show. I wanted to capture their love story through the seasons, so people watcing could see the transformation. The show started in 1993 and the characters were only 13 years old. It went all the way to year 2000, where they were in their college years. Then in 2014 a spin-off of the show was created called Girl Meets World. Girl Meets World follows the life of Cory and Topanga’s daughter, so we again get to see the evolution of their relationship. It is cool to see a TV couple grow up basically in front of my eyes for 20 years, and I thought it was special to create a video of that.

I created the video through IMovie. I found an array of images of them together on the internet and put them in chronological order. I then added title slides and transitions to add some pizazz. For the background music I chose the theme song from the first season and mashed it up with the theme song of the last season, so it kind of went along with the evolution of the show theme.

Through the years

A Changing Character

“For this assignment you need to pick any chacter and follow thier progression that they have had (TV characters from a long standing TV show will probably be best).  Use video clips to show how the character has changed and grown up over time.  Try to make their progression seem as dramatic as you possibly can.”

For this assignment to convey the change of a character over the years, I’ve chosen to base this on Harry Potter, but not just him. Because the Harry Potter films are based around the ‘three musketeers’ including, Harry Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe, Ron Weasley, played by Rupert Grint and Hermione Granger, played by Emma Watson.

Through-out the 8 films the characters had changed, both physically and emotionally so I thought Harry Potter would be the best film to chose, to almost time lapse the whole production.

I also chose the Harry Potter cast because the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released in 2001, was when i was growing up and just being introduced to films, especially Harry Potter. Ever since then i had a new Harry Potter film being released ever 1-2 years until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 was released in 2011.
So in a way I feel like I’ve grown up with the Harry Potter cast, so it’s nice. and funny, to see their change, as me and my friend’s went through the same change at very similar times.

To create this collage of video’s i used Imovie, just because I’m used to this software and i know how it works. So first i had to download a million different movie clips form all the Harry Potter movies, I downloaded these from Youtube using ClipConverte.

Once downloaded and imported into Imovie i could begin the process of editing.
This involved watching every clip waaay too many times to place them in order from youngest to oldest. Eventually everything was in place and then all that’s left to do was to add some nice little transitions, I went for the ‘movie’ effect seems as it fitted in nicely!
