Rings of the Jedi

I was looking through the mashup assignments for another one to do and found the Movie Mashup. For this assignment you have to combine two different movies together into one movie poster. I decided to combine two famous trilogies together of different genres that are often compared as classics. I chose Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.

I used the movie poster from Star Wars episode six Return of the Jedi as my main layer. Then I found images of Gollum and Frodo. I was able to cut them out of the pictures they were in and insert them into the original layer I was using. I was a little rusty with gimp since we had not been using it as much over the last few weeks but I was able to piece things together.

Rings of the Jedi

Here was what I came up with Star Wars Rings of the Jedi. Hopefully everyone enjoys my combination of a couple of classic movies.

Up With Monsters

The next I assignment I completed was Movie Mashup. The goal of this assignment was to create a movie poster based upon a mashup between two movies. This assignment was pretty difficult for me considering photo editing is one of my weak points. To start, I had to think of the movies I wanted to mashup. I landed on mashing Up and Monsters Inc. because they are both Pixar movies and have a very similar tone/design to them. From here, I simply downloaded a horizontal movie poster for the movie Up, and this is the movie poster I downloaded:

From here, I had to figure out how I would incorporate Monsters Inc. into this poster. I landed on taking images of Mike Wazowski and Sulley and having them holding onto balloons and floating in the sky. For this, I had to find png’s of these two characters, this being because I didn’t want a colored background surrounding their images. I also wanted images that included their hands so that I could make it appear that they were holding onto the string of a balloon. And trust me, this was the most difficult part. I went through plenty of pictures on google trying to find a few that would work, and I finally did. Here is my final movie poster for this assignment and the movie Up With Monsters.

Up With Monsters

To create all this, I simply cropped, resized, and placed all the different images using Google Draw. This included the images of Mike and Sulley, and the wordart of the wordMonsters” from the movie Monsters Inc.

Overall, I think I did a very good job with this, I think it really fit the assignment well, and also had a consistent tone within the poster. This assignment really helped me, again, not only develop my photo editing skills but my creativity as well to create a movie poster that could convey the combination of two different films at the same time.

This assignment is worth a total of 4 stars out of 5.

Giving me a total of 16 stars for the week. If you’d like to check out this assignment, you can find it here. Til next time my friends, hope you all enjoyed!

Breaking Bad on The Wire

This assignment was to combine two movie posters of movies that have been compared to each other.  Since we’re focusing on HBO’s “The Wire” this semester, I chose to combine it with another show it has often been compared to – “Breaking Bad”.  Here we have our two fellas watching “The Wire” on television while […]

Olympus Down Mashup Poster

I once said, “You only live once, so why not take the chance to do something valuable in life?” It’s a known fact though. In this case, I did a similar mashup but different with a mashup poster (4.5 stars/5 stars) instead. Before I did a mashup trailer of Olympus Down and now I’m doing a poster of Olympus Down.

I used GIMP 2 to do it which was ton of editing. I put the two images into different windows and copied the Olympus Has Fallen poster to the other one and used the erased part of it which resulted in my picture below for this assignment of the poster.

I feel so good after finishing this like:

Hope you guys enjoyed it! Would love some of your thoughts about it!

Movie Poster MashUp

For my MashUp Assignment requirement I chose the Movie Mashup (4 1/2 stars). The basis of the assignment was to take two movies which have been compared to one another and mix them together into one movie poster. Here’s my submission:

Iron man SuperMan poster

To complete the assignment I took several pictures off the internet and merged them together using pixlr.com. I started with a good background canvas with Superman and the buildings. To add Iron Man I selected around him and copy and pasted him into the other frame. I then had to erased any borders around him that remained from his original background. The movie poster title was added using the test box tool in italic font. To finish I included the movie’s production details in the same method as Iron Man. I enjoyed how user friendly pixlr is. It is very similar to Photoshop, which is good because my subscription just ran out. The only complaint I have is that I had to redo this assignment 3 times, because the site kept dropping me for various reasons.

Gravity 13

Gravity 13

Apollo 13 has inspired space disaster movies, including one the most recent and very popular Gravity. This takes many of the aspects that made Apollo 13 great and includes better visuals.

Rocky Fight Club

For my second mashup assignment, I decided to jump into the world of photoshop and complete a Movie Mashup in the form of a poster. I thought for quite a while on this one and made a mashup using Fight Club and the movie Rocky. While the plots of the two movies aren’t the same they contain the same broad focus of fighting.

I started off by looking up movie posters for both movies and found one I really liked for Fight Club. I then cut and paste a similar looking picture from the Rocky poster and arranged it with the others. Then, the tricky part came when I had to change the the credit names to include Sylvester Stallone. I luckily found the same font type of the movie poster at fontmeme.com and was able to match the colors to where it blended in well.

Overall, I think this one came out well and I enjoyed the process.

The Grand Moonrise Hotel

My first mashup assignment of the week was an interesting one. I decided to be bold and go for the “Movie Mashup” assignment worth a well deserved 4 stars. Just by reading the description, i knew this assignment would not only be difficult but time consuming. I was looking at other people who completed this assignment and all the simple movie comparisons were used up. I really wanted to do the Hunger Games and Divergent. Oh, well! I suppose i’ll use this time to introduce a movie you’ve probably never seen! Well, movieS. I spent a decent amount of time thinking of movies to compare and i ended up choosing movies by Wes Anderson. I know that films directed by the same person tend to be similar but i was in a debate with my friend on HOW similar Moonrise Kingdom and The Grand Budapest Hotel. I recently watched the GBH and it was just so great. I’m not sure if it was because i’m attracted to pastel colors or what, but it was fantastic.

Similarities:

What makes both films similar is the basic storyline. In both movies, the protagonist, or protagonists set off for a journey. In GBH, the Lobby Boy sets out to bust Gustave out of jail. In MK, the scout and his lady friend leave and go on a mini vacation. Of course the scenes in between are totally different but still! I’m just summarizing this up because i’m nowhere near being a movie critic. It doesn’t help that Wes Anderson has a distinct directing style. Thinking about both of these films made me realize that they were perfect for mashing up, so i did!

Mashing

My biggest issue was how was i going to mash this up into a post? Which setting do i use? Which characters do i include? I originally chose the lobby of the Grand Budapest Hotel because that seemed like a good choice. I could fit a reasonable amount of characters/props and it would be O K. Well, i realized that the colors clashed too much. It would have been weird if i added the scout to the lobby because his clothes were too pale and the lobby is so dark. I shifted towards the beach scene in MK because that looked even better. Now that i had the setting, i needed to include characters and props from GBH. I spent way too long trying to find Gustave, Lobby Boy, and Edward Norton. The problem was that i needed to find full body photos of each character. That was really difficult. I REALLY wanted to include Agatha in the poster but a full body picture of her was nowhere to be found. I ended finding three characters from the GBH that i could include in the poster. I wanted to include a prop but i was stuck on which to include. The delivery truck for Mendl’s was too large and not appropriate for a beach scene so i chose the Mendl pastry box instead. Now that i had the photos i needed, i had to strain my hand in cutting and cropping each out. After i did that, i added them to the beach scene.

New Title

The title was not as bad as i thought it would be. It was impossible to find a font similar to the GBH movie poster so i stuck with a simple one already downloaded in GIMP. I chose purple as the color because it went well with the colors in the poster. A light pink wouldn’t have shown up and yellow wouldn’t have either. I obviously had to combine both movie titles in the poster so i ended up choosing “The Grand Moonrise Hotel”. I thought that was cute! Overall, i’m really pleased with this poster. I think i might make it my new background because it’s perfect. Below, i’m going to include original photos and the final piece! Enjoy!

Movie Mashup!

Harry Potter vs. Twilight, Movie Mashup

Take a movie that you really like, Now take a movie that has been compared to it, and now make a new movie poster that incorporates the two.

I choose to do my poster on Harry Potter and Twilight. When the twilight series first came out, it seemed like it was constantly being compared to Harry Potter.

I did some research on the topic t see if one had clearly out done the other. But what I found was if it was a personal blog, than it was based solely on opinion, and if it was an entertainment website, it just said both.

Some of the sites I referred to:

http://popwatch.ew.com/2009/07/15/harry-potter-vs-twilight-whos-more-popular/

http://www.eonline.com/news/187768/once-and-for-all-is-harry-potter-better-than-twilight

http://www.cracked.com/funny-6390-harry-potter-vs-twilight/

So it is up to the viewer to decide what they like better, and what they feel as been an overall better series. As a Harry Potter fan, I choose Harry Potter.

What do you choose, comment and let me know!!??

Just a funny video for Harry Potter vs. Twilight!

In the Making:

The making of My Harry Potter vs. Twilight poster did come with some challenges. Usually I find things with photo editing, fairly easy, but for some reason my computer program that I use for image editing GIMP randomly stopped working. I tried re-downloading it, restarting my computer, but I could not get the program working. So I had to get creative. I used the well known Word processor. I inserted the two photos I was going to use into the processor, and kept it fairly simple. I just lined them up next to each other, and then added V.S. in the middle. Then I took a screen shot of the page, drug it into iPhoto where I cropped it. Although this was not the ideal way to create a poster, I did my best to make it work.

The Divergent Games

Screen Shot 2014-11-24 at 11.33.22 PM

This is my last mashup assignment for the movie mashup prompt. I mixed together Divergent and the Hunger Games because a lot of people say Divergent is just the new Hunger Games. I spent a lot of time on Photoshop to make this poster, so enjoy!
