Assignment Bank 3 (Week Twelve):

Holiday Mashup

For this assignment, I was instructed to use a photo editing software to mashup my top three favorite holidays/cultural celebrations. I was instructed to use whatever elements I liked from each holiday, creating a character or scene with the images/symbols I chose. Lastly, I was supposed to tell a story with the image. Below is my creation and the steps I took to create it:

This assignment was fairly easy and quick for me to do. I immediately knew my top three holidays are: Christmas, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. I was able to tell somewhat of a story with the magnitude/size of each holiday representation. Christmas is my #1, thus the Santa Claus is the biggest and focal point of the creation. Halloween is my #2, thus I decided to pick an image that had three elements to it (hoping that it would indicate more importance than the turkey did). Lastly, Thanksgiving is my #3, thus why I chose a fairly simple image to represent it. Below are my steps:

  1. I googled Santa Clause, then Halloween, and lastly Thanksgiving. I saved all of the images you see above (and luckily, all of them were clip art – therefore I didn’t have to edit them at all! They already came with alpha channels).
  2. I opened up the Santa Clause image in Gimp first, now the original image had him holding gifts in each hand. So I did have to erase those to clear up his hands to hold the other images.
  3. Once I did that, I imported the Halloween and Thanksgiving images, placed them where I wanted them, and boom – I was all done!

Holiday Mashup

Since the holiday season is about to be in full swing I thought what a perfect time to do this assignment. It is worth 4 stars, and is super fun!

To start I picked my three holidays to mashup, I chose Christmas, Forth of July, and Halloween! I love all three holidays. I googled images for each of these holidays to crop together. Here are the originals…

Then I used my favorite editing app Pasteify! Although this app only allows you to crop two images together at one time it is so simple and easy to use that I often use it multiple times!

First I combined the Christmas tree picture and the firework picture together using the standard Pasteify app 3 step system (choosing a background, highlighting the parts of the foreground you want to keep, and combining the two into one cropped image). Then once I had those two images combined into one I used that new image and cropped the pumpkin into it using the same 3 step system within the Pasteify app. It sounds complicated, but it is so simple and took me 5 minutes tops! Here is my final product! I really wanted the image to look like one complete picture. I used the firework for Forth of July as the Christmas tree star, and the Halloween pumpkin as a gift under the tree! I am pretty happy with the overall Holiday Mashup!

Holiday MashUp

For my next mashup assignment I created a “Holiday MashUp.” My three holidays I chose were Christmas, Easter, and Independence Day. Christmas is my absolute most favorite holiday. EVER. I’m so excited to start decorating, but haven’t been able to start yes because I’ve been so busy with school! I also like Easter and Independence Day. Overall, these are my favorite holidays because of the family events that come along with these holidays.

Holiday Mashup

In this assignment I picked three holidays and mashed them together into one picture. My inspiration for this was were are nearing Easter and St. Patrick’s day just passed. And also The Fourth of July is coming up. So I wanted to celebrate all of these holidays.

I have to admit this assignment was challenging. I used GIMP to edit the photos but learning how layers work and how to superimpose layers takes time to learn.

Assignment

Holiday Mashup

For this assignment I used pixlr.com to create a photo combination of my three favorite holidays. In case you couldn’t tell, my favorite holidays are halloween, thanksgiving, and Hanukkah.

At first it was hard to figure out. It took me about an hour to learn how to edit the photos and layer the other images on top of the original image. I ended up having to watch 3 different video tutorials. Eventually I was able to figure out how to layer the images to make it look like one image.

Holiday Mashup

When I read this title something immediately came to my mind that I thought fit this perfectly. Now I may not have technically created this myself, but I truly can not think of a better example of a holiday mashup than that of the nightmare before Christmas and jack skellington. This is the perfect example of a mix between Halloween and Christmas and Ive been a big fan for quite a while!

Combined Easter, New Years, and Valentines day into one poster. Used GIMP 2 to edit the picture together with a black background. Also used picresize.com to shrink the others down so they weren’t too big. Fun assignment.

It is a new year, a new beginning. Not long after celebrating new years, Valentines Day and Easter will be upon you! Quick! Hurry and make advanced plans ahead of time to beat everyone else to dinner those nights since you KNOW it’ll be packed!

Holiday Mashup

Part of the reason I like fall so much is because from October to December we have my 3 favorite holidays!

Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. So Candy, Food, and Presents. What can be more magical than that? Answer: nothing.

To make this mashup masterpiece I consulted google to find many different clipart pictures. I wanted things to blend a bit so I decided to have Halloween just be the background. I then photoshopped my turkey and placed him dead center. Christmas time is the best time so I used more Christmas decorations. I decorated the Hallowthankmas tree with a star and other goodies. Tada! The most spoopy thankful and wonderful time of year.

Did you see Santa? It just blends so well.

Holiday Mashup remix

For this assignment I had to take three holidays and create a photo that combines them. The remix that got paired up with this was called pretty in pink. That means I just need to add pink to the final product. I used the holidays Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas because they are my favorite and fallow one another.

Favorite Holidays

For my next assignment, I created a holiday mashup. My two favorite holidays are my birthday and Christmas, so I mashed the two up:

To create this assignment, I used Photoshop. I downloaded the Santa Claus picture from pnglng.com, and then I added some birthday clipart throughout the picture. The process was pretty simple, and I have definitely gotten comfortable with Photoshop.
