Shadow of a Doubt

I chose to do the assignment Shadow of a Doubt as my topic for my first writing assignment. I chose this topic as my first assignment because the concept of a shadow is pretty simple and easy, a shadow is created by blocking light. But, shadows have a lot of meaning to them, society has built them up to mean a lot more than simply the blocking of light. Outside or even inside (if there are windows) the shadows change by the time of day. I chose to do a shadow that is inside in a room without light because the direction from where the light is coming from stays in that same place no matter what time of day.

What you see in this picture, is the shadow of a laptop. In this room, where there are no windows, I only know what time of day it is when I look at the time on my laptop. But when I play video games, I do not have a clue what time it is. I discovered earlier today that in this setting I can play a video game for hours and not notice how much time has passed. For what I thought was only an hour turned out to be more than three hours of gaming! And so I wonder, how much time would I lose if I didn’t have external factors to wake me up from my technology coma?

I took this picture using my IPhone 6.

What’s in a Shadow?

Shadow of a Doubt

Shadow

Shadows have a particular peculiarity to them. Agent Fawn for instance always thought it frustrating how much shadows disproportionated the actuality of the real object. For instance her shadow in particular was always much taller than she thought it ought to be. Given her height, it always made her feel much to tall when looking at her shadow. Like Peter Pan’s shadow she felt her own had too much of its own personality for her liking. Shadows she surmised were supposed to be more like the person even with the way the light hit at any given angle it should at least bear more relation to the actual subject. If she had had a mind for folly she would have considered telling off shadows as a whole for their misrepresentation. However she knew that was utter nonsense and as such had to be resigned with the fact that her shadow and everyone else’s for that matter could never properly depict their owner. Instead they would always be far too long and perhaps not the right size. Still she thought to herself perhaps the only positive of a long shadow is its ability to give away its own before they appear around the corner, giving her just enough time to knew who was near.

Here’s Shadow!

1 Second Video- (1 star)

A one second video remake of The Shining’s “Here’s Johnny” scene featuring my self. I think I look like a pretty scary axe murderer.

How Embarrassing…

5 Second Film- (4.5 stars)

Did you watch the Day in the Life of Caleb and Shadow? Well here is the video…

And guess who decided to post the bloopers…Chelsea. She’s probably still mad I stole her blog. She used clips that were to be discarded after my video was published. Chelsea sham on you!

A Day in the Life of Shadow and Caleb

60 Second- A Video Narrative (4 stars)

This assignment required to take 60 one second video clips to tell a story. I show a day of Shadow and Caleb hanging out through the eyes of Shadow. In this montage of videos I got my friend Moe Bahhur to play Caleb and I play Shadow. That being said I am not a shadow so while watching I ask you to pretend that my arms are transparent.

Shadow’s Calling

Character’s Bird Calls (2pts):

This call is to specifically call my character, Shadow, from hiding when needed be. It was created entirely from FreeSounds.org and Audacity. It is short because Shadow doesn’t need a long call, he is always listening. This call is a mix of a whistle and sounds from playing water glass. I choose to create it this way because I was thinking that if you were trying to call shadow you wouldn’t want something loud and obvious you need something quiet but distinct to be recognized by Shadow.

Shadow’s Theme Song

Your Theme Song (4pts):

I downloaded The Pink Panther’s opening song from Youtube. I added some found effects from FreeSound.org. Throughout the song I added some symbol crashes and drumming, while also editing the sound of the original song.

Cartoon Shadow

Cartoon You (3.5 pts):

The following is a a cartoon picture of Shadow created with Paint as well as the Clyde filter on flickr to make him look transparent. Using lunapic.com I added the comic book style effect to the final picture of shadow. In this picture he is in out for a stroll through an alley. He is his favorite shape of a man with a hat and trench coat.

Shadow’s Motto

Bumper Sticker (3.5 pts):

Shadow’s motto is ” Everything is for the Taking” he definitely lives by what he preaches though he likes to be funny sometimes. The following is the bumper sticker on the back of his car, “Everything is for the Taking (except this car, this is mine).” When he designed it he only placed a few colors to keep it simple.

Shadow Dealing with Business

Bad Guy Business Cards (2pts):

-The following is Shadow’s business card for his side job. Only cause he is a big shot doesn’t mean he doesn’t like to make a little money on the side being an entrepreneur. Give Shadow a call if you need help getting something back. He deals with stealing on a regular basis so trust me he won’t get caught meaning you get what you want.
