Favorite Actor Highlight Reel Tutorial

I had so much fun creating this video that I thought that it would be fun creating a tutorial to give people a little insight on how to do it! What you have to do first is decide what actor/actress you are going to pick! For mine I did Tyler Perry as Madea! Then what you are going to do is go onto YouTube and find clips from your favorite moments from that actor/actress. It can be from one movie but it would be best if it was from different to see the adversity in the actor/actress. Once you pick the clips you are going to then use a tool known as: 4K Video Downloader.

Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 6.56.18 PM

It is super quick and easy to download and all you have to do once you get it is copy the link and paste it into the downloader that looks like this:

Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 7.12.50 PM

From there you will click on the video and play it to make sure its working and then save it to your Desktop or folder so that you have an easier access to it! Then you will enter into either iMovie or Windows Media Player! For this tutorial I will be using iMovie.

Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 7.24.21 PM

Next you will import the media by clicking file then import media.Ā Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 7.32.08 PM

Once all of the clips are in you take out the favorite parts of each clip by selecting it which you see in the yellow and there will be a plus sign that will appear in the right corner for you to add it. Then as you see in the 3rd image above you can drag the videos as you please in a particular order and even add titles and transitions to the video.

Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 7.35.36 PM Screen Shot 2015-12-04 at 7.35.48 PM

Once you are done with that the video will be done and all you have to do is share it! On iMovie you can share it through email, YouTube, etc.

And then the final product!Ā

Tutorial: Professor Groom Poster

Tutorial: Professor Groom Poster

For thThe Groom Godfatheris assignment, I replaced Marlon Brando’s face with Jim Groom’s face on a movie poster for the God Father. MS Publisher was the editing tool, but any photo editor can be used. First I found an image on Google of Jim Groom. The image was saved by: Right clicking on the photo of choice and select Save Image As… I saved the image as a .jpg file on the desktop. Then, search the internet for a movie poster or find a suitable photo where the main character has a similar shaped face and the coloring blends with the person(s) of the poster. Save the image as a .jpg file on the desktop (or where ever you choose). Open MS Publisher and select a page size. Copy both of the .jpg images into the blank page. Select the first image to be edited. Clicking on the image will open the Picture Tools: Format menu. Select Crop. On the image, click and drag the Crop handles so that only the face of Prof. Groom is remaining. Click Crop to save the new image. Place the cropped image on top of the face on the poster. In this case, I placed Prof. Groom’s face on top of Marlon Brando. Since the size wasn’t exact I resized the picture height and width. The edges were softened by selecting: Picture Effects: Soft Edges tool. This option softened the edges of the face so that it blended with the outline of Brando and fit on the body. Edit as needed to adjust the size and placement. Once the two images are complete, click on one image and hold the Ctrl key then select the second image. With both images selected choose the Group tool. This will prevent one picture from moving or sizing without the other. Text can be added by selecting the Text Box. SAVE YOUR WORK! Save the newly created poster to a .jpg file. Upload to flicker and post it on your blog.

Radio show Bumper

One of the requirement for the preparation for the radio show is to create a radio bumper. I decided that my friend Repsag, who is better at speaking than I am; will introduce my radio show. So, she recorded the speaking part and I put my imagination to work and added the background audio. For this I decided that I want the public to know that Repsag is inside or coming inside;so I added the sound of the door opening. Then I put the sound of some ghost so that it can give a special feeling to the space that she is doing the recording. Also, at the end; I decided to use the same door sound to let the audience know that she is leaving.

Radio Bumper

For this assignment, we had to make a short “radio bumper”, which is audio that announces a radio station between songs.

To make this bumper, I first created a clip of myself talking about the radio station, and then foundĀ a short, creepy sounding audio clip from freesounds.org for an introduction. I also found a beat to add to the background for the duration of the bumper. Then, IĀ edited these audio files in Audacity, before saving and uploading themĀ toĀ SoundCloud.

Notorious: Video Essay

For the video essay assignment, I decided to watch the movie Notorious by Alfred Hitchcock. For my video essay, I focused on the scene when Grant tells Bergman about the about his plan to have her seduce one of her past acquaintances. I read through Roger Ebert’s How to read a movie. I concentrated my essay on his talk of movement and the meaning behind left/ right, background/ foreground and top/ bottom. I enjoyed reading his article because I had never thought of the placement of characters on the screen having a meaning. It made sense for foreground/ background and top/ bottom but left/ right was a new concept that I hadn’t heard of before. I also looked at a few other videos about cinematic techniques.

First, I looked at the three parts of the Top 20 Cinematic Techniques video series on YouTube. I didn’t know about many of these techniques. I knew about panning, slow motion, and special effects but I had never heard of some of the other names that certain techniques were called. For example, I didn’t know that panning upward was called crane- up. The videos were very informative and I enjoyed seeing the different cinematic techniques of movies I have seen. The second video I saw was called Camera Angles and Techniques. I liked this one because it showed different ways that my group can later approach our video show. It will be a good reference guide when we start shooting for the show. The third and final video I saw was called Star Wars continuity mistakes. I wanted to watch this video because I have always had an interest in Star Wars and I’ve always been interested in the mistakes that people make during shooting. I usually find a lot of mistake videos with animated film and shows rather than live action film so it was cool to see what mistakes big budget films make.

Video Essay
I used the Firefox video downloader to get my video. I have a sound recorder on my computer that I recorded my essay with. I found different points where my audio would fit best and mixed it in with the scene I chose. I was originally very hesitant to finish this assignment because I’m not confident about video making. I found Windows Live Movie Maker on my computer and it ended up being easier than I thought.

Here’s the video.

Oh, look- middle school photos!

Facebook narrative assignment, 3 stars. I did it because it was 3 stars and didn’t look like an insane amount of work.

The thing that took the most time was going through all of my old social media to find these photos and videos. And since I’m a huge weeb, most of my photos are from conventions or are of me in costume. #sorrynotsorry. Unfortunately, I don’t have a few of my more recent costumes because I couldn’t be assed.

I went through my Facebook, Peter’s Facebook, and some of my friend’s albums before heading into my old tumblr. I found the hair video there, and it’s the first one I ever edited. I downloaded all of the pictured that I liked, put them into categories kind of, and added the transitions. I then added Mozart’s Piano Sonata 11 in A. Love public domain.

The major theme of this is that you can’t really tell what happened when, because I haven’t changed my core personality at all. I think that’s a good thing. I’m still a goofy dork who makes weird faces and finds the silliness in everything, because what’s the point of being a tight ass when you could make light of things? Bad things happen. This narrative has photos of some of the most difficult, heartbreaking parts of my life, as well as some of the happiest. People enter your life and leave it without warning or reason. Lives end, drift apart, come together. People can lie and hurt you, make you feel worthless, or lift you up higher than you knew you could go. All of this is guaranteed to happen, and there will be photographic evidence. Can you tell which is which?

A Trip and a Fall

3 stars: I worked with July Laszakovits and we combined not only our characters, but also our assignments. We created a story map to depict the traveling that occurs during thisĀ story assignment that includes 10 random words and an animal of our choice. The ten words and the animal are underlined (the first time their used) in the story.

Eden Waz after learning and rectifying the death of her husband by murdering the man who took his life, was fed up with bad men. She kept hearing on the news the stories of theĀ robberies and murders occurring in Andorra, a small country in the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain. She had been researching and trying to figure out who it was and how she could stop it. She read online of a famous Scientist who isolated a poison from the Aconite flower and set out from Philly to New York to seek this Scientists help.

After arriving in New York City, she finally met the woman she had been waiting for, Isabelle Franklin. The women grabbed lunch at the Irving Mill Restaurant and discuss Ms. Franklin’s techniques. However, Edie was unable to be discrete and Isabelle quickly picked up on her intentions. Fortunately for Edie, Isabelle also deplored theĀ freakyĀ violence that was ensuing in Andorra and pledged to help her. She even offered to pay for Edie’s flight since she could afford that and more. Edie, already gracious for her help, thought this was a bitĀ excessive, but she accepted the offer as she remembered the dwindling state of her bank account.Ā So the two set off and flew into France, the closest airport to their destination.

They spent a few nights in France researching the crimes. This serial robber and murderer had killed 31 people already, at least that was how many bodies had been found so far. The women were even more appalled when they went closer to the source to gather info. It seemed that someone had been going to great lengths in attempt to cover up details of the killings, but some information still surfaced.

Huge craters were left in the hearts of the families of the victims, especially those who were set up to find their loved ones. Edie and Isabelle wanted this to end. They had deduced that the murderer was royalty, for who else could have access to the poison from the blubberĀ of the lilotee fish, a rare and expensive fish found only in remote bay off Madagascar. The poison was not meant to kill the victims but to paralyze them, so they could still see and feel what was happening to them, their slow and agonizing dismemberment, but nothing could be done about it. That’s why these murders had to end.

Upon their sleuthing around the kingdom in Andorra, Edie and Isabelle came across one of the Prince Jasper’s mistresses. She knew what he had been doing, but feared for her own life as well as her young son’s if she should tell anyone of it. Isabelle, offering the young woman and her son safety and an escape back to America to work in her home, was able to coax the information from her.

With the help of Andrea, the mistress, the women were able to come up with a plan to end the murders– with one final one.

Andrea who could not bring herself to do it, snuck Edie into the Prince’s home and showed her what to do. Isabelle had injected the Actonite poison into theĀ bedtime snack of the Prince, who every night engorged himself with mini-franks andĀ horseradish.Ā Edie carried the snack up to the Prince, pretending to be the newly hired help. After the Prince had eaten about half the platter of food, she told him that he was caught, and he was done. But this wasn’t enough. She wanted him to feel the pain of everyone he had hurt. So, she unveiled every cloakedĀ mirror in the narcissists bedroom. And made him look into the reflection of his own eyes as the poison slowly took effect.

The poison of the flower being nearly untraceable was not found in the Prince’s system. And the lack of heirs to the throne caused the monarchy to crumble. Edie, Isabelle, Andrea, and her son returned to the US with clear consciouses, but heavy hearts.

Architecture/Landscape Then And Now

I created theĀ Architecture/Landscape Then And Now Visual Assignment. I wanted to do this because I enjoyed blending then and now pictures of UMW last year for my senior history seminar called Adventures in Digital History.

Here’s the description of the assignment:

“Much like other then and now assignments, this assignment requires an old photo and a current photo. The difference is that the blended photo must be a landscape or include architecture, so a building, house, etc. People aren’t the only things that change over time! If you don’t have old photos, find one through Creative Commons!Ā ”

A Happy Conversation With Me

The last video assignment I have completed for the week isĀ Have A Conversation With Yourself!Ā The goal of this assignment is to make a video where it appears you are having a conversation with yourself. To do this assignment, I need to film my videos that would include the dialogue of me talking to myself. This was not too simple though, this being because I needed to plan my timing out well on when to say things so that it would appear that I was contributing to the conversation on time and appropriately. To do this, I counted the time in-between lines so that the lines would match up and appear as though it was an actual conversation.

After I had recorded all my video for this, I decided to use iMovie to edit my video. To do this, wasn’t too difficult, this being because iMovie has a simple effect that allows this clone effect to be created, and there are plenty of tutorials and videos online explaining how to do this. The way I did this was, I dragged the first clip of one side of the conversation that I would like to use. After that, I highlighted the second part of the conversation and dragged it on top of the first clip, at the spot I wanted it to start. After I dropped it there, a pop-up toolbar popped up, giving me a multitude of options for what to do with this clip. Some of these options being “blue screen”, “green screen“, “insert”, “replace”, etc. The effect that I needed to choose from here was green screen, not necessarily because I am using a green screen, but because this is what makes the effect work. From here, I click the crop button and change the boundaries so that the half of the screen that one of my characters stands on is highlighted. Now, two me’s are sitting next to each other, having a conversation.

The next step of this editing process was to make sure the lines in the dialogue fit together well. And they did for the most part, the only thing I really needed to do was remove about 0.2 seconds from one of the clips. After this, due to the fact that I had some curse words in my video, I needed to add my expletive bleep sound effect to my video. To do this, I simply downloaded it from freesound.org and simply added it to the area I saw fit in the video. From here, the only thing I needed to do was add my opening and ending credit slides, and boom! It’s all finished.

Overall, I really liked this assignment. It definitely stretched my video editing skills. It also helped me plan out a script and my planning really well. I’m glad I did this assignment, because I learned a lot more about how to accomplish this really useful and neat effect within iMovie. So finally, here’s my video:

I hope everyone enjoyed, til next time my peeps!
