Create A Good Morning Message

If your a slightly shy person like myself I suggest you give this audio assignment a shot. Here’s the steps I took to create this.

First I began by going to YouTube to look for some background music. I simply typed in “up beat music instrumentals”. I listened to a couple of different mixes before deciding on the one I wanted to use. Once I found it I paused the part that I wanted to use and turned the volume down low. I did this to give my recording a background music effect.

Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 2.25.54 PM

I then went to SoundCloud to record my good morning message. To do this I clicked the upload option at the top and then selected start new recording. I hit the REC button and began.

Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 2.25.11 PMScreen Shot 2016-06-05 at 2.25.22 PM

Once the recording is finished you can press play and listen to it. If you like it select upload, if not you can simply start over. In my case I had to start over a couple times. Make sure that the background music you chose from YouTube is playing as you record. If you are satisfied with your creation go ahead and upload it. Once you’ve uploaded your message SoundCloud will create an embedded link. Simply paste the link into your blog to share your creation!

Tell us what “that” song means to you!

For this audio assignment I used two different sites, YouTube & SoundCloud. The steps were honestly pretty simple. Let me show you!

I started off by first finding the video of  the song on YouTube. Once I found it, I headed over to  SoundCloud to record what it means to me. As you can see in the screen shot the volume of the video is turned down really low. This is how I managed to capture the layering sound effect. I lowered the actual video volume and made sure that my computer volume was up high. This allowed me to in a way talk over the music. On SoundCloud I first clicked the upload option up on the right. That took me to the option of uploading something or recording something new. I chose to record directly from the site.

Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 1.38.37 PMScreen Shot 2016-06-05 at 1.38.29 PM

All I had to do was hit record and start talking. Once I got my recording done, I selected the upload and share option. This allowed me to tittle my song and select how I wanted to share it.  Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 2.03.13 PMScreen Shot 2016-06-05 at 1.41.16 PM

After titling my song I then saved it. SoundCloud then automatically uploads your new recording.

Screen Shot 2016-06-05 at 1.41.19 PM

The rest is super easy and simple. Copying the links to embed into your post. Head on back to YouTube and copy the video link, post it into your blog post. You’re then going to head to SoundCloud and do the same.

My Birthday GIF Card:

Simple steps to making a GIF

Start out by finding which video you’ll be using for your gif. Once you’ve found the video you’d like to use, go ahead and upload it to your youtube account. Make sure the video is set to public view, it won’t work if it’s private.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.30.43 PM

Next go to giphy.com and select create on the top right corner of the homepage.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.56.46 PM

Upload your video by pasting the url into giphy.com. Your video will pop up as soon as you paste the url. You can then slide the blocks to the starting and ending place that you want.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.31.02 PM

Once you’re all done with that, scroll on down to the bottom and select “create gif”. That will start the process of transforming your video into a gif.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.31.34 PMScreen Shot 2016-05-26 at 8.31.42 PM

After the transformation process is complete, you will see your gif along with it’s url. Select the “gif download” url under advanced and insert that into your post using the “add media” option.

Thats it! You’re all done… enjoy your new gif !

Motivate Dracula

After donating his beloved blood, Dracula is in need of some motivation. Create a motivation poster that would lift his spirits by following these steps.

Start off on canva.com, upload the photo you’ll be using onto one of the pre-designed templates under the layout option. Re-size the photo to your desired size by dragging the corner boxes.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 2.25.56 AM

Add text to your photo using the text option on the left hand side. This option will pull up the edit box where you can adjust fonts, size and color. Type in some motivation and drag it to where ever you want to place it. If you want to add multiple text boxes like I did, just repeat the steps until your design is complete.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 2.28.05 AMScreen Shot 2016-05-26 at 2.30.06 AM

Your final piece may just give Dracula the motivation he needs. See the story behind Dracula’s motivational poster here.

Stay true to you… make a t-shirt that defines you.

I’d like to help you stay true to yourself… follow these steps to show the world how you define yourself. For this we’ll be using canva.com, upload a plain t-shirt template (can find this on google images).

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 1.25.29 AM Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 1.48.15 AM

Once you have your template, go ahead and resize it to fit the screen by dragging the corner boxes in or out. I started off by adding a heart design to my shirt. To do this I selected the elements option on the left hand side. From there I chose shapes and found the heart shape I wanted to use. I then resized the shape the same way I resized the t-shirt. On top of your shape an edit box will appear. There you can select which colors you’d like to use. I chose to leave mine black. I like simplicity.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 1.48.32 AMScreen Shot 2016-05-26 at 1.48.40 AM

After getting my shape the size I wanted, I started inserting the text. To do that I selected the text option on the left hand side. You’ll see multiple text templates. Select the one you want to use. Upon selection the text box will appear on your design. Type in whatever quote you feel identifies with you. You can edit the font, size and color in the edit box that appears. Once thats all figured out, your design is done.

What will you advertise ?

Traditional invites are so old school! Add a personal touch to your event by making your own advertisement poster or flyer!

If you’d like to add any personal photos to your flyer like I did, start off by going to fotoflexer.com to remove any background from the photo that you do not want.  Crop the image using the smart cutout option. If you’ve seen any of my previous tutorials then you already know how to use this tool. If not, the program itself provides instructions in the small box you see to the right of the photo.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.54.06 PM Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.57.57 PM

Once I finished editing the photo I wanted to use, I headed over to canva.com. This website has everything you need in regards to making a flyer & it’s completely FREE. You will have to sign up for the site though.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 1.25.29 AM

Once on the site you’ll see all of the options they offer on the left hand side. I started off by selecting a layout. You can scroll through the options and select what you’d like to use. I stuck with the birthday theme. Once on the layout you can click on each text individually to change the words, font, color and size. All of those options will pop up on top of the currently selected box. I also clicked on the stars that were already there in order to change the colors. The same options as for the text will pop up.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 12.03.14 AMScreen Shot 2016-05-26 at 12.03.22 AM

From this point on, everything is personal preference. You’re going to use the options on the left to insert text, photos (like the one we cropped in the begining), shapes, & whatever else your heart desires. The search option on the top allows you to search and insert specific items. As you can see below I used this option to insert the number 23. In order to move things around all you have to do is click on the item you’d like to move or change. The edit box will automatically pop up on top of the selection.

Screen Shot 2016-05-26 at 12.22.34 AM

After you figure out how you want your design, simply save it. Share it, print it, tweet it, keep it to yourself… whatever. It’s officially your own personalized creation. Far from any invitation you’d buy at the store.

Make your own crime scene !

No crime scene is identical. Show us your crime scene by following these steps.

Start off by heading over to FotoFlexer.com. Make sure you have an idea of what you’d like your crime scene to look like ahead of time. Save all of the pictures you’ll be using since we’re going to have to edit each, one by one.

For mine, I started off by editing the crime scene tape first. This is a photo I found on google images. Upload the photo and click on the Geek tab on the top. Select smart cutout to edit the photo and make it appear transparent when you layer it.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 1.02.31 PM

On the smart cut out option begin by coloring the parts you’d like to keep with the green keep option. Next do the same, except this time use the delete option which will allow you to color everything you want to delete in red. Once finished, click predict unknown area… this will transform the original picture into the new cropped picture.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 12.58.48 PM

Go ahead and save this picture using the .png transparent option.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 1.02.37 PM

You’ll follow these same steps for the other components of your photo. Here are some examples of my body outline and blood.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.16.08 PM Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.28.45 PM Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.36.58 PMScreen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.44.53 PM

Next we’ll move on to putting all of the pieces together. Begin by opening up you background photo (where you’ll be placing your crime scene).

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.31.37 PM

Insert your other photos one by one by selecting add images under the Layer tab.

Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.33.38 PM Screen Shot 2016-05-25 at 11.46.31 PM

Size the picture by clicking on them, once the box appears you can drag out to make them larger or pull in to make them smaller.

You’ve officially created your own crime scene, without harming anyone !

Make your own violinist debut !

Since you’re here I’m assuming you checked out and liked my “Are We There Yet?” design assignment. Well lucky you! I am now going to show you how to make your very own!

Start out by first selecting the two pictures you are going to merge. Here are the initial two that I selected.

Photo I cropped:

IMG_1712

Photo for my new location:

chorus-photo-dec-2015

I then headed to FotoFlexer.com which is a website that allows you to edit photos. I started off by selecting upload photo on the main page.

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 10.14.26 PM

Upload the photo you are cropping first. Once the photo is up select the “Geek” tab, this is the last tab in the top row. Once on the geek tab click on the “smart cut out” option. You can see all of those options in the picture below.

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 10.18.09 PM

Don’t be scared away by the “smart” aspect of this… it was actually more simple that I initially thought. When you click the smart cut out option its going to switch your view to full screen.  They also have a tutorial that talks you through each step once it opens up.

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 9.22.07 PM

I followed the steps on the tutorial which direct you to select keep and drag the mouse (green color) over the parts of the photo that you want to keep. In my instance it was just my little brother and the violin. I won’t lie the violin stick was so hard to do ! Once you’re all set on keeping what you want move on to the delete option right next to it. This is going to allow you to drag the mouse (red color) over the areas that you do not want to keep.

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 9.23.49 PM

Once you’re all done and the photo is completely covered in green and red areas select “predict unknown areas”. This option is going to completely remove all of the red area from the picture. Once finished select ok and save the image as .png to your computer.

Click the new option at the top of the screen and open up your “location” photo.

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 10.26.51 PM

Once thats all done, go ahead and select the “layers” option at the top, next to the geek tab. You’re going to click add image. That will then allow you to upload the cropped picture you just saved. Once uploaded it will appear right in front of your location photo, like this…

Screen Shot 2016-05-24 at 9.47.50 PM

Resize the cropped image by dragging the corner boxes in and out until you reached the desired size to match your background image. Once it looks right to you go ahead and save it. you’re all done !

Revamp that photo…

Ever wonder how you’d look like as a drawing? Wonder no more! Turn your basic pictures into drawings in 4 simple steps.

Start by going to picmonkey.com and clicking “Edit a photo”

Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 9.35.28 PM

Next upload a picture to revamp by selecting “open” and choosing one from your computer or which ever other source you prefer.

Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 9.35.50 PM

Once you have your picture selected, click on the effects icon. Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 9.36.22 PM

Scroll down to the “Edge Sketch” filter and apply it. You can adjust the intensity and color of the drawing. I stuck to a plain drawing but add a little color and you have a color pencil creation!

Screen Shot 2016-05-20 at 9.36.45 PM

Thats it ! Pretty simple. In 4 steps you have a whole new picture! You may even try printing some images like these and making a coloring book out of them. Unique and fun !
