Splash That Color!

For my first Visual Assignment I decided to do Splash that Color!

Basically you take any photo, turn it into a black and white photo, and then use some type of photo software and insert back some of the original color of the photo in one spot.

Process: To make this as simple as possible I decided to download a free app to my Iphone called “Color Effects”. Basically all you have to do for this app is upload any photo that you want. (It will automatically put the photo into a black and white setting) And then you just use your finger to put back the color of the photo where you want! So easy, fast, and simple!

Inspiration: I decided to use a photo from my photo library that I had posted to Instagram last week. The photo is of one of my favorite snacks Wheat Thins! And FYI if you have never tried the Sundried and Tomato Basil flavor you are missing out on one of the best things you will ever taste in your life!

Visual Assignment Star-Count: 10

This one was simple but fun.

I simply took the picture, threw it into GIMP and messed around with the color filters for a while. I tried to use the web-based photo editor Pixlr but the website that hosts it was acting all funky.

Relaxed Phelps

Phelps

My favorite Olympian is Michael Phelps so I picked him for this visual assignment. I found a picture of him and a quote to match the picture off google. The picture is of him in a bathtub and the quote is about him saying a swim race is a normal thing for him!

Audi R8 My DREAM Car

Audi r8 my DREAM car

An Audi R8 is my DREAM car!! I want it in white and red interior. I would love the thrill from going so fast on the highway. It would be a fun car to have and I love the lights on this car they are dots in a curved line. It is a hot car I hope to be able to buy it one day!! I found this picture on google images.

My Dream Car

Dodge Viper

This car makes me feel fast, and classy because of the black and white. If I had this car I think I would be invisible, going from lane to lane, cutting others off and not making a single scratch on my car.

I went onto Google and found my ideal dream car, which for me is the Dodge Viper! I saved my image onto my computer and uploaded in into Flickr. Here is the site from where my photo is from.

Common errdayyyy things

common everyday things

In this photo I put together some things I think are common everyday things. I think a phone charger is essential because now a days everyone is using their cell phones as a means of communication. I put my car keys in the mix because I use my car to get around to places and to work. A planner to keep organized on daily things that need to be done. Paper and pencil because we write each and everyday!!

Gigi the Giraffe

One of the random visual assignments I chose to do was Buddy.  For this visual assignment we had to take our buddy some place with us and take a picture of it.

For this assignment I chose to take Gigi out for an adventure!  I decided to take her to Target to go shopping with me. I chose to put Gigi in a cart, and put a seatbelt on her to make her look more like a “person.” I thought this would give the picture a more realistic feel to it.

Gigi

For this picture I actually had to play around with the zoom to get a better quality picture, and also do the auto enhanced to make that picture that much better.

I also like how the red cart really makes Gigi stand out and look really pretty.  I actually made this giraffe my first semester at UMW.  I stuffed Gigi myself at the winter festival and she wears a shirt that says “Some people just can’t handle the heat.. University of Mary Washington”  I thought it was so cute and I decided to leave the shirt on her during this picture because it makes such a huge statement.  It’s almost like with anything in life, some people just can’t handle certain situations.

Is that my face?

My favorite assignment so far.. Picasso Yourself!  For this assignment I used my super silly boyfriend and the ever-so-amazing Macbook Photobooth.

With this assignment came a lot of laughter! There are sooo many effects that you can make using photobooth (which comes as an app for any Mac computer owner).

I used “Strech” effect to make my face, and my boyfriends face all distorted.  We laugh for a good 5 minutes after every picture we took.  I felt that this effect was as close as I could get to Picasso’s Cubism.  Cubism basically involved distortion of images, in particular faces and I present that in my photograph.

The beauty about photobooth and my MacBook is that the camera on my laptop is of a pretty good quality and photobooth takes amazing pictures so not much editing had to be done on the photo.  I did have to crop the picture and I just did an auto enhancer and ta-da!  It came out to look super silly all on its own.  Gotta love art!

Visual Assignment #4

For this last visual assignment, I did the Troll Quotes, worth 2 stars.

Here’s the image I came up with:

hilleleannan

In the directions, it said to pick people from related universes. I chose Democrat women/politicians. My three people were Eleanor Roosevelt, Hillary Clinton, and Nancy Pelosi. Although I am a fan of Pelosi’s faces, I chose to attribute the quote to her. With a simple google image search, I located the photo of Clinton, which happened to have the empty space. I LOVE Eleanor Roosevelt quotes; the one I used I found here. I went into Pic Monkey and chose the font, and simply typed the text into the box (it’s really simple to use). I saved the image to my desktop, and then uploaded it to flickr with only a few clicks. The hardest part was deciding what people to do…I almost did it on male detective leads (Elliot Stabler (SVU), Jethro Gibbs (NCIS), and Aaron Hotchner(Criminal Minds)).

Pumpkin Splash

Through a random search of the visual assignments I came across Splash that Color.  This assignment was very challenging.  I downloaded many different free trial programs on my computer to be able to do this color affect but it all seemed to not work.  After going back to the page and looking over at the assignment I realized that it said “You can do this in a number of ways with photo editing software or using mobile apps.”  When I read using mobile apps, a lightbulb went off.  Why hadn’t I thought about that before?? Well I got my  iPhone, and after a while of searching, and intense review reading for the perfect app, I found it!!

I downloaded an app called iSpalsh Free! Not only was it free, but it worked amazingly!  Being fall season, I decided to use the picture of the pumpkin I carved last Halloween.  I took the picture on my front porch on a cold fall day.  For the splash part of the assignment I uploaded the picture to my app, and made the whole image black and white.  After making it black and white, I had to go around and refill what I wanted to have color and what I didn’t.  This was hard for me because my fingers kept coloring outside of the pumpking which turned out to be a huge challenge.  Maybe my fingers were to big, but for some reason I could not get it to be perfect and the small imperfections showed on my picture but overall I was very happy with the turn out.

Good thing for good apps, and good phones.
