The Importance of friends

Recycle the Media

“Your task for this assignment is to Mashup at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, image and video. The story most likely would be done as a video, but see if you can make these different kinds of media make sense as the content. What kind of recycled story can you make out if this cast off media.”

I used Recycle the Media as part of my 7 star worth of assignments. For this assignment I first went to the minus.com  and selected 10 different pieces of recycled media. I wanted to make a story out of images and audio, therefore I chose the audio and video formats.

Since friendship provides orientation in our life, life surrounded with good friends is a life in the heaven. Therefore, the video I created is about the importance of true friend in our life. After selected the images and audio, I used Windows live movie maker for editing them. I used subtitles for telling the story behind the images. The background music was called lantern_fest ; I chose this sound effect because it was going well with the images I chose.

The importance of true Friends:

I really enjoyed creating this assignment, since it was very fun to do. Secondly, it was good to see other students recycled medias .

Hunting Bambi ***

Mash-Up Those Movies ***

bambi

deer hunting

deer 2

I took the two original movie posters and mashed them up, in order to create a new story. My movie is about the hunting of Bambi’s mother, a untold story until now! I used Paint to cut and paste the Bambi into the Hunting White-Tail Deer poster.  In the end,  the stories were similar in that both are about white-tailed deer, but completely different genres.  I used Flickr to embed the picture into my blog.

Cindrella II : My Best Friend’s Wedding ****

Movie Trailer Mash-Up ****

This assignment tasked me to mash-up the audio of one trailer with the video of another. I knew I wanted to Cinderella II: Dreams Come True because the audio/visual for this trailer is very simple. Then, I looked around for movies about girl looking for true love. I looked at problably 15 trailers before I remembered “My Best Friend’s Wedding”. I loved the ending audio for the trailer and used that (through audacity) to overlay it (through Window Movie Maker) to the video of Cinderella II.

I loved that the story is very similar, but now there is a deeper mroe adult twist to Cinderella II.  Now insteado of Cinderella having the most wonderful marry, the movie is about the drama before they get married. In fact, there might even be another women! … you’ll have to watch to find out.

This assingment was really fun and I only used skill that I learned through previous assignments. For example, I used the PWNYouTube bookmark in order to save the trailer as mp4. Then, I used Windows Movie Maker to upload the clip. I edited the part and length of the audio through audacity . Putting together was pretty simple, I delayed the start of the audio via the Music Menu. Then, exported to YouTube!

The Last Kiss Over the Rainbow**

YouTube Duet**

This assignment was relatively easy skills wise because all you had to do it enter your two YouTube videos on YouTube Doubler. Once you have that you embed the code on the HTML tab of your blog! However, the challenge with this assignment was creatively coming up with two different video that worked together as a duet. I used the instrumental verison of Taylor Swift’s “Last Kiss ” and an A Cappella version of “Over the the Rainbow”. I think the two go pretty well together. It gives the classic “Over the Rainbow” and twist. What might be really cool, is if, someone took two people sings one song and made it a round. Its just a thought I might explore later on this week. I believe the added dimension is beautiful!

YouTube Doubler

Buffalaz

The purpose of this assignment was to find a video (music, newscast, etc.) in a language other than English; and caption it in English.

For this assignment I used an Afghani Pashto song called Tasara Meena larm ; and I translated into English. I used windows live movie maker to caption it in English. Since Pashto is my second language in Afghanistan; it was very easy to translate it. I have never thought that translating a song from one language to other language would hardly make the same sense; but I tried my best to make it sound great. And I hope you all enjoy listening to it.

Mashup Assignments

Ben Harwood’s Track Blazing Troubadour

The purpose of this assignment was to make a movie trailer by taking a trilogy or any series of movies; and combine scenes from all the trailers to make one trailer.  Therefore, I chose the Fast and the Furious series one, two and three trailers; which were The fast and the Furious, Fast and Furious 4 and Fast Five.

I downloaded the trailers from YouTube with PwnYouTube . Afterword, I selected the scenes I wanted in my trailer; using MPEG Streamclip .

On the other hand, I used Windows Live movie make for editing the video. I wanted to create one story by combing all the three trailers therefore; I chose my scenes very carefully. I also used some cue cards to better tell the story to the audience who have never watched any of those series. I also put background music to the video to make it more interesting; the background music was downloaded from YouTube .

The Fast and The Furious series:

I really enjoyed doing this assignment and I found it very interesting to do. This assignment requires a lot of time and effort; since it is important to consider the video aspects, sounds, dialogues and combining them in a way to create a story.

Up & The Avengers Movie Trailer Mash-up

Movie Trailer Mashup

Take your favorite movie trailer and mash it up with a different trailer to completely change the meaning of the original trailer. For example, if you have a funny movie trailer, give it the sound of a terrifying movie; or vice versa. You may need to clip the audio or the visual, use imovie and audacity to cut the clips to give you what you need. Good luck!

This is a 4 star assignment

Before starting this assignment I reviewed two other examples that helped me get an example of what I needed to do.

Toy Story 3 Horror Recut Trailer: I am reviewing this because I love all the Toy Story movies.  I really liked this mash-up for the movie.  The music and the editing of the clips made it seem like this movie would be really scary.  Though this trailer was really good it reminded me more of the assignment Return to the Silent Era.

A Different Interpretation: I decided to review this assignment because I love all the Harry Potter movies.  I really liked how this mash up included two different Harry Potter films.  I like how one of them was used just for the music and background of the movie, and one for the actual video part of the movie trailer.  Though not everything went well together with what was happening in the movie, I liked how there was a mash-up of two films from the same series.  It was a very creative idea.

After reviewing these two examples and a few of the other ones I found under the assignment, I decided to make a mash up of the movie Up and the movie the Avengers.  I thought that these two movie choices were very different and I think that is what a mash up is supposed to be.  Combing two very different genres of movies to make it look like one.  I decided to keep the movie trailer for the movie Up and use the background music from the Avengers.  I first found the movie trailer for Up on YouTube and downloaded it to my computer using PwnYouTube.  After that I then found the movie trailer for The Avengers and converted it to an MP3 file using Pwn YouTube.  To convert the file to MP3 using PwnYouTube I clicked on the link that said share/mp3/convert.  I then followed the instructions that were given to convert my video file into an MP3 file.  Afterwards I then opened up Window’s Movie Maker and added the Up movie trailer and the Avengers sound.  Though not everything matches up with what is happening in the movie trailer I think these two trailers mashed-up go well together.  This mash-up gives the movie Up a new meaning, making it seem like there’s more action and adventure to the movie.

Recycle the Media Tutorial

Here is a tutorial for someone who needs help to make a video for this assignment:

Recycle the Media

During the Fall 2012 iteration of ds106 taught at UMW, we collected media from students that was unused in their previous work uploaded to http://dropitto.me/ds106phonar (the password was “photos4life” newly added media might take some time to be moved- we have to feed the squirrels that do this manual labor). The content was migrated to a public download site, which contains at least 150 images, audio and video http://minus.com/mvKXzhhcO.
Your task for this assignment is to mash-up at least 7 different pieces of this media to make a new story, and use at least 2 different types (e.g. audio and image, image and video). The story most likely would be done as a video, but see if you can make these different kinds of media make sense as the content. What kind of recycled story can you make out of this cast off media?

This is a 3 star assignment

TUTORIAL:

The first thing you have to do is go to the website: http://minus.com/mvKXzhhcO  This is where you can see all the recycled media that you can choose from.  What I did was pick two sounds and six pictures, that related to taking a nature walk.  But this is the part of the assignment where you can be creative in your own way.  Find any kind of combination of 7 different media types that go together.  I recommend making a video of all the images and sounds that you collected.  To download this media to your computer click on the image and in the right hand corner there is an arrow facing downward.  Then you will be able to save any of the media to your computer so you can use it in your video.

tutorial

The rest of this tutorial deals with using Windows Movie Maker:

The first thing you will have to do is open Window’s Movie Maker.  The next thing you will have to do is add photos to your video.  After that you will then add the music to your video.

tutorial part 2

You can then play your video and adjust the sound volumes using the video and music tools circled in this image below

tutorial3

Making the video is fairly easy.  This is where you can be creative in making your own video.  There are many options in Window’s Movie maker using certain themes, adjusting the volume of the sounds.  You can arrange the order you want your images to appear as well as working with color schemes and opening and ending credits. When you are satisfied with your video you will then save your video and upload your video to YouTube.  If you are having trouble uploading your video to YouTube from Window’s Movie Maker this tutorial on YouTube shows you how to convert your video into the right format that YouTube accepts.

I hope this tutorial helps you in working on this assignment Recycle the Media.  If there is something that is unclear written in this post please feel free to comment below and I will clarify what I mean.  Good luck on this assignment!

This is a 3 star assignment

Before working on this assignment I looked at a previously done assignment called:

Cat? A ds106 Recycled Media Assignment: This assignment was really well done.  I like how it started and ended with the cat.  I also like how this short video has a scary theme to it as you are wondering what happened to the cat.  The recycled media was used very well and the sounds went well with what was happening during the video.  I also really liked how it zoomed in on the cat at the very end.

After looking through all the recycled media in the recycling bin, I decided to create a story with photos about a nature walk that I’m taking.  For this I took 6 pictures and 2 sounds from the recycling bin that I thought related best to nature and things you would see on a nature walk.  The story I created with recycled media represents me taking a nature walk, and the things I see while walking around outside.  The starting image is of a house.  This represents me leaving my house to start my day with a nature walk.  The sound in the background for most of the movie is called forest birds.  This is the sound represents the birds I hear while outside on my walk.  The next picture shows me turning a corner and walking by some pretty fall trees.  The following picture shows me walking down the stairs into the forest where there is nature.  The next picture shows a leaf I found on my nature walk.  Then I look up a the nice blue sky and see some hot air balloons.  The last sound that is at the very end of this video is called swish, which represents the sound of the hot air balloons.  That there ends my nature walk.  I wish that there was a sound for footsteps in the recycling bin that sound like I’m actually walking.  I really enjoyed this assignment and using recycled media for my story.  I like how I can reuse what other people do not end up needing.

What is this Pet thinking?

So this post was supposed to be done nearly 24 hours ago by now, but YouTube seems to be refusing to process the video in question.

The video that this was SUPPOSED to be was a video of a certain cat pondering the nature of humanity, in the words of Loren Eiseley, but YouTube is taking its sweet time processing it.  Hopefully, it’ll get processed soon and then I’ll link it into this post.

Until then, think of this as a placeholder.
