DS106 Radio Bumper

DS106 radio bumper

I found this assignment a ton of fun because I got to try my hand at creating a bumper, or short audio clip designed for radio shows, in order to remind listeners of the station, and in my opinion, to reach out to listeners and emphasize the greatness and uniqueness of the station. I had fun creating this because I took a song called “My Body” by Young the Giant, that I find gets me really pumped up. I kind of split this song up a bit, with also a DS106 audio clip underlying the song, and placing a short static sound clip in between song clips. When the static ends, the song returns with a wave of passion and fury that is awesome, and then fades out. I tried to keep it short, because I know short bumpers are more effective, so I hope you all enjoy! Feel free to comment!

LET’S GO TO SOCCER KIDS!!

During this week we were asked to do lots of audio related assignments…. One of them was to create a Sound Effect Story. We were asked to download Audacity in order to work and mess around with the sounds that I was getting off of the free sound website. After downloading the sounds I wanted from this website, I imported them into Audacity and then used Alan’s video on how to overlap the sounds as a resource to figure it all out. I had a really hard time trying to find all the sounds I wanted for my story, I didn’t really get everything I wanted, but I certainly tried. It was all a bit frustrating considering I hate working with sound… pictures I can do, but audio has always been an issue. Nonetheless, after I finished my story I uploaded it onto my SoundCloud and this is what I got :

The actually story behind this audio is ….. Grabbing a bite to eat as you get into your car and turn it on. You then drive to your destination, which in this case happens to be your childs soccer game. You hear the kids yelling on the field and having a very fun and loving time (reminds me of when I used to play as a little girl, the atmosphere was always so fun). There is cheering and the whistle blows for the end of the game.

I initially wanted to have different sounds, like maybe sounds of kids being excited and loud in the car on the way to the game… but finding sounds like that isn’t as easy as I thought. Also, editing the sounds to fit perfectly together was a bit of a challenge… but I tried my best, after all it is my first time!

Can’t Fight The Feeling

Wowwwwww so now that I know how to use Audacity, this audio editing is SO MUCH EASIER. I was so overwhelmed. Always am when I see a new program on the computer and have no knowledge of what to do with it and how to work anything on it. So I bumble about all confused, and frustrated, until I finally figure it out. After creating my 5 Sound Story, I found it was suuuuuppper simple to do the radio bumper.

I used the first 10 seconds of Mac Miller’s “Fight The Feeling” and incorporated it with an audio recording of my voice to create my radio bumper. Enjoy!

Look before walking… Sound Story.

Now I don’t know how much description we are supposed to give with our sound story. I kind of want people to figure out what is going on to see if I’ve made everything clear enough. I’m not going to give you anything but a title… “Distracted Walking”

Put the bumpers up!

For my DS106 Radio bumper I had to do something hockey related. I couldn’t not do something hockey related. I’m just so sad there is not going to be a hockey season *sobs*.

I chose to use freesound.org to find clips to use, I surprisingly did not have to hunt very far for any of the clips. They were all super easy to find and edit. I thought editing the clips was going to kill me but I finally figured it out.

Here is the finished product:

Radio Bumper

So this bumper was pretty easy to create. I mashed up myself saying “ds106 radio”, “Clubbed to Death” by Rob Dougan, and some crazy radio static, just not exactly in that order. The beauty of audacity is that you can layer these things and play with your own recordings. I played with some effects on [...]

5 Sound Story

As a direct result of how crappily the Eagles played today I created this story. What I wish I was doing instead of homework… drinking a beer.

A Bumper You Can Bump To

So, a few hours ago, I didn’t know how OR what I wanted to do for my DS106 Bumper. And since I didn’t know what a bumper was at first, you may not know either. A bumper is the short audio clip that plays on radio stations to remind you what station you’re listening to, who is on the air, or even what kind of music is played. To put it simply, if you own a radio, you’ve heard one before.

I was a little scared for this assignment; 1. Because I didn’t know how long it would take and I’m running short on time 2. I didn’t know how saying DS106 radio with my own voice would turn out.

Turns out that with the help of Freesound and Audacity, I can make miracles happen with audio! I was able to nab some free sound effects off of Freesound, record my own voice in Audacity, and mash it all together and edit this little piece:

As with the FIRE FX post, I wish I had some more time to edit and make something really smooth. But I’m happy with what I created and am proud to start getting into audio editing!

Audio Assignments for Week 4

The first audio assignment I did this week was creating a sound effect story

It is a bit of a horror story. I downloaded my sounds from freesounds.org and mp3skull.com and then imported them to Audacity where I layered them as well as put in some effects like fading in. Can you guess what happens?

Then I made a bumper for DS106Radio:

It’s a little shorter then specified, but I think it sounds good.

FIRE FX

This week we were challenged to make a short audio story using only sound effects.

I wish I had more time to do this assignment.(yeah we had a week, but I’ve been super busy) I had fun listening to all the free audio/sound effects I could find. I ended up settling on a sound effect story that I could relate to best. I made short work of this challenge and created this:

Pretty awesome if I do say so myself! The subject of the audio just made it even more interesting for me…keep making assignments like this!
