Guess The Word!

I found this assignment to be pretty cool, especially after participating in this years Lip Sync event (and no, it’s not the lip sync assignment!) For all that didn’t attend, the winners of the competition were the sign language group! I personally know no sign language, so I thought this would be a super fun (and educational) assignment to complete! The word I chose to sign directly related to my host character, The Headless Ballerina….so go ahead, watch my video and take a guess!

The making of this assignment was a little harder than I had expected it would be. As I said earlier, I’ve never learned any sign language! I quickly realized that my memory really isn’t the best, and I couldn’t seem to take a 1-take video without messing it up! So instead I decided to take pictures of my hands signing the letters and string them together. I think it made a better video! So I just went ahead and took pictures of each letter, uploaded them into my iMovie, strung them together in order, and added a title and ending slide!

Dennis’ Crash

Dennis’ adventurous life leads to sometime mistakes being made. On Thursday Dennis was biking in France and came across a mountain bike trail that was not what he thought it was going to be. He raced through the trail only to be tricked and to crash. He was followed in his crash by the group he was biking with and this is his helmet cam form the crash. complete with a slow-mo instant replay!

This is a 3.5 star Video Assignment for Ds 106 titled Instant Replay. I did this assignment by finding a video of a mountain bike crash on youtube. I then clipped up the video so that I got jsut the crash. I then copied all the end of the clip and slowed it down and edited it to look the way it does now. This was all done in iMovie (here is a screenshot of the editing process).

Decode that Phrase

Signing Words
Thank you goes out to my trusty assistant for allowing me to video her signing. We went online to find a sign language tutorial and put together a phrase, which is related to my host character, La Noir. The video was uploaded using Movie Maker and edited. The title was added using a transition leading into the brief sign language clip. Credits were added at the end.

The Dark Knight Chipmunk Style

Assignment (3 stars)

For this assignment, we had to take a clip from a film and edit the audio in some way. I chose to edit a scene from the Dark Knight, as this is Edward Creeper’s favorite movie of all time. This scene is pretty classic, so I would assume most people have at least some recollection of what is going on. It is interesting to hear how everything sounds so much more different now, and how less threatening the Joker comes across.

To complete this assignment, I first found the clip I wanted to edit from YouTube (found here). I then used Nora’s tutorial to help guide me through the process of editing. I opened the clip in Audacity after downloading it using a YouTube converter, and used it to change the pitch of the voices (I set it to 50%). I then saved the the clip as mp3 onto my desktop. I opened the original clip in iMovie, and turned off the sound. I then added the new audio file into iMovie, and overlaid it on top of the clips so it would flow together. I then saved everything, and began the process of uploading it to YouTube.

Gary L. Close – A Documentary

gary and linda4This documentary is about Gary Close, a long-time friend and neighbor. Gary is a man of many talents and interests. He’s an artist, author, devoted husband and father. Gary is civic minded and a former Commonwealth’s Attorney. With a passion for history and preservation, Gary has restored old homes. This video was filmed at Gary’s home in Culpeper. I took photographs as well as video. That was the easy part. The editing took about 4-5 hours using Movie Maker. Once the videos and stills were uploaded, I had to review each segment and decide which to use. The first cut was about 7 minutes long. That’s where the real editing started. After splitting and trimming, and splitting and trimming, and changing the speed of video as well as some audio, I was finally able to condense the documentary into 3 minutes. This 4 star assignment deserves all of 5 stars. Unfortunately, there were some problems with the audio that were not able to be corrected because of having limited use of equipment.

What do I love?

This is a Video Assignment and its worth 3 and a half stars. For this assignment I used my host character to shed a light on what she loves which is her job of being the one to be there for their last breath. She enjoys the fear and the darkness that comes to her job and how she lingers in the shadows and that is what brings her joy and happiness. I decided to use iMovie and have a bunch of clips that represented the fear, kiss of death, cemetery, darkness and welcoming ones to the afterlife. I then picked a song by lana del rey “Once upon a dream.” I enjoy the sound of the song itself and thought that it would give the video eerie ambiance to the video. If there was things I could do to change this video it would be to maybe have clips in their versus having just images to make the video more versatile.

Poem Drive

This is a Video Assignment and its worth 4 stars. This assignment was to take a video of a natural setting and then record yourself reading a poem or a story that would kind of resemble the scenery that you are in. I chose to use my host character again in this assignment and for her to pick her favorite poem and then recorded it. I recorded me and my friend driving in Fredericksburg since it seemed that it would be the most natural thing to do with driving and having my character stare out the window as she reads a really dark poem by Theodre Roethke. I then took the video and leaned the color towards the black and white to make it more bleak and set a mood for it. I think if there was anything I could do to improve this assignment it would have to be maybe have a more enticing scenery or add cool effects to the video itself.

Mini Documentary

This is a Video Assignment worth 4 stars. This assignment had the opportunity to follow someone and to highlight their life. I put a twist to my documentary and used my host character The Death Whisperer as the main character to follow. The challenge of this is that she is no where to be scene. I liked having the idea that I was searching for the unknown and it was kind of a mystery factor added to it. I also added sounds from freesound.org to add to the haunting of my host character. I had tried to go around the city to parks and cemetery but unfortunately they were closed so that would be one way of improving this assignment. I added my voice in to talk about my reason of the documentary and how by trying to “follow” her it was also bringing the fear of her following me. I also made the video black and white to add more to the haunting factor. I hope you enjoy it! I know that in the description of the assignment it talked about the quality but to give you a better reason of using my phone was to make it as if it was a ghost hunt in a sense!

Favorite Actor Highlight Reel

This is a Video Assignment and its worth 4 stars. This assignment was to take your favorite actor or actress and take a minimum of 30 seconds of your favorite scenes. I chose Tyler Perry because not only does he act as 3 characters in his films/plays but he is also brings out the characters in such a strong way that I had to use him for this video assignment. I used my favorite character by him which is Madea. I went on Youtube and picked my four favorite films by him. I then used the 4k downloader and put the clips in the iMovie and from there trimmed it down to make the video under 2 min. I then added transition effects in between the films and put titles on the videos just in case people don’t know the movies. I had a lot of fun putting this together because it was fun to go back and look at fun parts of his films. If there was any improvement for this assignment it would have to be making the transitions better and maybe don’t cut the clips in odd spots. I think the hardest challenge was cutting them. I love the scenes and to cut it to only short moments was really hard. I hope you like it!

Juliet Doherty Highlights 2015

When I came across this assignment I figured what better way to show off a dancer who both my my host character and I look up to, Juliet Doherty! Juliet Doherty is one of my favorite ballerinas out there, and she’s extremely accomplished for only being 17! She’s my favorite to watch, and I wish I could dance like her! So I decided to put together a little video of some of my favorite moments from her pieces this year!

The making of this video was really quite easy! I found all of the pictures that I wanted to use, then I downloaded them into my iMovie. Then, I strung them all together in the order that I wanted, and added an intro slide. Lastly, I found some really happy music on YouTube, and I downloaded it to use, cause who doesn’t like happy music? Hope you all enjoy it!
