Who’s Our Next Star?

Original DS 106 Assignment: Create A Commercial (5 stars)

Step 1: Go to canva.com Here there are many templates to follow as a beginner to learn the basic of video editing.

Step 2: Following the guidelines for this, I search for “YouTube video” and several templates pop up. I find a template that fits the look I am going for and start with that. There are also blank templates you can work with if there is already a design in your mind.

Step 3: EDIT! This is the most time consuming part. While there is a template, you need to go back and change text/photos/colors to fit what you are trying to produce. Since this is supposed to be a commercial for a show, it needs to have bright colors and emphasize that its in LA.

Step 4: Editing the slides. Since this is promotion for the finale, I wanted to showcase the finalists. Each have a name and town they represent to create more of a connection with the audience.

Step 5: Audio! To create the ambience of the video, there should be appropriate audio added. The attention grabbing of upbeat pop music makes the add feel exciting. I also decided to add audio when the finalists are presented to give an audience presence to it already. Audio can be adjusted and moved. I found my best Canva tips from this fellow YouTuber, Aurelius Tjin.

Step 6: Export! Once you have it downloaded and saved, rename it so it is easy to be found. From here we can go to upload to YouTube.

Step 7: Open YouTube. From here click the camera in right corner that says “Create” as you hover over it. Once you click on that it will open on this page.

Step 8: Upload! You can select from file or drag and drop your video here. It will move you forward to add titles, description, tags, etc. Your video will generate a link that you can use to share.

A Sneak Peek into Me

Original DS 106 Assignment: Today It’s All About Me (2 1/2 stars)

With the craziness of this world, work and everything in between, there are times where we need to step back and appreciate ourselves. At the beginning of every day and end of every night, the only person who is sure to be there is yourselves. Sometimes being early 20’s, I get caught up on doing the next big thing, making the next move or making more money. For this assignment, I just wanted a moment to look back and appreciate everything I’ve done so far. It was easier than expected, thankfully! I want to actually do this every year or every so often to look back and see how much I have accomplished, changed or not done! I journal a lot, but video gives a face to the different versions of me and would be nice to see. I set up to record with Vimeo record to have my video saved there and exported it into Canva to add beginning and end credits.

I would definitely recommend anyone to do this assignment! It is nice to round out your points as well as being able to do something raw and genuine.

TikTok or Not

Original DS 106 Assignment: TikTok Of Your Pet (3 stars)

What’s more modern than TikTok? Probably the “Tap to Pay” feature, but I’m not sure how to make that so we will stick to TikTok. Upon extensive research, one of the most popular sounds is a mix of the Mission Impossible theme song, it goes dun dun dunnnnnn, dun dun duuun, DUN and repeats. To showcase a skill and include a trending sound, I scouted far and wide to find a potential lead. After several interviews and mixes with sounds the below was produced.

Lead Actor: Muffin
Producer: Evelyn
Editor: Evelyn
Creative Executive: Evelyn

Original

Steps We Took To Create This Masterpiece

Step 1: Open the TikTok app and select to record at the bottom middle of the app.

Step 2: Set the scene. For this scene, we start with the lead coming in at a left strong axis and immediately staying on the right side to show their position is positive. *This took a bit of practice so budget time for that*

Tip: Lighting! For this scene the lighting is darker to focus on the red laser and increase the intensity.

Step 3: Add Audio. TikTok has a great feature that can have popular audios or music to add to videos. Shuffling through them before recording can give you inspiration or finding one after can be the perfect fit.

Step 4: Save to Vimeo. This way we can upload it to Canva to add intro/outro.

Step 5: Upload to Canva and add intro and outro slides to meet assignment requirements!

Step 6: Download and save to Vimeo! This can be shared and embedded into other social medias and even blog posts!

I Didn’t Get Paid

Original DS 106 Assignment: What I Eat In A Day? (5 stars)

Disclaimer: This is a Friday, end of work week, did not get paid until next week, I am eating whatever I have and enjoying a little bit of a night out! On a budget though because UMW is already sending emails about tuition payments *sad* BUT, please enjoy what I ate without tracking calories, macros, sugar and grams because I don’t know how to do that. I don’t eat to live, I live to eat.

Step 1: Open Canva and select video to start with a blank canvas to edit your video.

Step 2: Upload all photos that you want to include in your video. Adjust the length of the clips to suit how you want the video to be. For this video I wanted it to be a quick video since the average attention span has probably gone down due to spike of social media use.

Step 3: Add audio! This can be music or a voiceover. I wanted to channel early 2010’s YouTube videos with an update audio to match the pink intro/outro.

Work In Progress Screen

Step 4: Export and save! I uploaded my saved version from Canva to Vimeo to have it stored in the same area as my other videos and not needing to keep it on my desktop. This will also make it easier to share.

Commercial For Barbie!

5 Stars

This is My Tutorial For Barbie Commercial !

I made this to show what barbie is dreaming about and showed a montage of Taylor swift because to me she is a real-life barbie who wants to be known for more than her signing and beautiful looks. She has other things in her life that she wants others to know about!

Video Assignment #3

Original Assignment…2 Stars:

This assignment was to “Create a video using some of your favorite pictures/videos that you have taken while in school this year! Add a wide variety of pictures from throughout the year. Make sure to add some music to the video before you post it!”

I again used TikTok! I really enjoyed making this TikTok. I got very nostalgic looking for photos for my favorite moments of college assignment. Each of these photos all of the memories that I hold dear to my heart.

The first photo was me on my first visit to meet the coaches for the University of Mary Washington Women’s Soccer Team as well as seeing the campus for the first time. Had to hit up Benny’s afterwards and it was Awesome. This day I remember calling my Aunt calling me that day and her saying ” I can see you there and you enjoying this.” When she said those words I didn’t believe her…. 3 years later I am about to be a Junior here.. I have made so many friends and I am so happy I decided to come here.

The rest of the photos go in order of when I took them. They include different Photo ops for birthdays and other such fun things. Also along with winning the CAC championship for our Conference this year. We won that game 4-0. Most likely was one of my FAVORITE days the whole year. The last photo is of one of my best friends and myself at our last public hangout before COVID hit hard:((

I miss my friends and can’t wait to go back to school and see them all so so soon:)

Fun With Mini Bands !!

Original Assignment… 4 Stars:

I saw this option for assignments we could pick and I knew I HAD to do it. This is just some. I am always on TikTok so I always see workout videos like this. However, I never see them using Mini Bands though. So I knew it was my Time to shine.

This certain exercises I got from one of my favorite Orange Theory Coaches for her quarantine edition workout package. They are KILLER. I normally do them a lot with this exact set and reps so it was fun.

Again I used TikTok to make the video. I added the Title describing the workout and what you needed. Then had how long you were doing everything for. They showed all the certain exercises and how to do them.

It is a Mini Band workout.

4 Rounds

20 Reps

5 Different Exercises.

1st Donkey Kicks

2nd Squats

3rd In & Outs

4th Glutei Bridge

5th Glute Bridge In & Outs

I do this a lot and really love feeling the Burn of the Mini Band!

Have fun!

My Bloopers!!!

Original Assignment… 3 Stars : http://assignments.ds106.us/assignments/personal-gag-reel/

The assignment was to “Create a gag reel of your funniest moments captured on video!”

Tik Tok actually when making videos makes It so easy. You literally just have to upload it and pick music and they do the rest for you.

I went to my camera roll and just searched all the videos I have of myself. I did it in chronological order from earlier videos to later in life videos. Some included me being terrible at golf, fun bus rides to high school soccer games, crack head hours my freshmen year of college. Some more were dancing moments, soccer moments and so much more.

Here is how I made it !

First Download Tiktok from the app store.

Next go through your camera roll and choose the videos you wanna use. To make it easier to find on Tiktok I made an album called bloopers in my photos app.

Next I went to TikTok to upload my videos. I selected them all from the album

Then I hit next. It then shows you to this page. Here it has uploaded all your videos and put them together. You then can change what part of the video is shown and you chose your music. I chose the song funky town.

After fixing everything to your liking you can post it and add a caption! Then it saves to your camera roll!

I hope my tutorial was helpful and you enjoyed my bloopers !!:)

titanic 2.0 – the story of your character

I love the movie Titanic. Old, kind of cheesy, I know, but it’s a classic. This movie of course focuses on the two main ill-fated characters Jack and Rose. So I decided to change the perspective and choose “the bad guy” as my character – Cal, Rose’s fiancé. I chose the the Audio Assignment “Tell …

Alright Alright Alright

For my second assignment this week, I choose to do a four star assignment for recording a play-by-play, however, I have lost a lot of interest in sports generally over time, so I decided to do a play by play of the overtime round from one of the games of Gambit I played. As far as an overarching narrative, Gambit is a race against the other team – to bank first, get your Primeval up first, and bring down your Primeval before the other team is able to.

I used an old game I played in – sudden death/overtime games to me are always some of the best matches, and I decided that for the assignment I would give a radio play-by-play of the overtime match I found myself in.

Most of this assignment was recording my voice in FL Studio. I had tried to undo that radio effect on my voice, but was not able to get the effect removed from the mixer. I think it might have been applied to the master track, but I wasn’t sure – I had assigned the recording to a specific mixer track. Oh well. I then combined the narration and video footage in iMovie, and uploaded it to YouTube.
