Everybody Wants to Rule the World

If you can’t rule the world, then why not make one? To a degree, “it’s my own design / it’s my own remorse.” I used an instrumental to this song in my radio bumper (how distant that feels).

Here is the song the title is from. I almost used Lorde’s cover (which I recommend) but I wanted something a little more upbeat.

Howdy y’all, and welcome back to my video assignments. This time, I chose to do the “#SixSecondArt” assignment by Ben Rimes, worth 1.5 stars. I’d like to contest for a slightly higher rating, but it may be debatable. The description is as follows: “Six word stories, six word quotes, and six word poetry are all the rage. So why not six second art? Using any method of video, stop motion, or other visual medium, produce a six second video of you creating art. It could be digital art, physical art, or performance art, just create a six second video of you making it happen! Vine, Youtube, Vimeo, are all great places to host, although Vine happens to a great natural place for this type of work.”

I was really into six word stories as a kid: here’s an example from my ancient, very cringe-worthy DeviantArt.

Prompt: Imagination
Before first step – what happens next?
– April 13th, 2014

Unfortunately, with the demise of Vine that wasn’t a possibility, so I focused on something I have made. Something I can reverse.

Six Second Art (1 1/2 stars)

Another one of my assignments was quick and simple and this was six second art. This assignment asked us to share some type of art skill that can be done in 6 seconds. This caused me to actually learn a new trick that I hadn’t known before. This is how you draw a simple rose. If I had more time and did this again I would shoot how to make the rose as well as make a field or roses and show what they could become. Here is my way of drawing a rose:

Technically, the glass is always full

Inspired by a pic from pinterest I found a few months back. Thought of the saying →”always see the glass half full.” Given that I prefer to see the good in everything, this made me put it the way I want people to see it. Defying the awaited expectation.

Six Second Art (Assignment Bank #21)

#SixSecondArt

Six word stories, six word quotes, and six word poetry are all the rage. So why not six second art? Using any method of video, stop motion, or other visual medium, produce a six second video of you creating art. It could be digital art, physical art, or performance art, just create a six second video of you making it happen! Vine, Youtube, Vimeo, are all great places to host, although Vine happens to a great natural place for this type of work.

BEHIND THE SCENES

I chose this particular assignment from the Assignment Bank because it looked like a lot of fun! It involved art, and proposed an interesting challenge of trying to do something as fast as possible. I love to do cute lil doodles of faces, especially on my schoolwork, so I found this a good opportunity to highlight my totally useful skillset!

I’m very bad when it comes to taking videos. I’m not at all confident behind or in front of a camera. I wanted to dip my toes in and introduce my hand without introducing my whole body.

STEPS TO SUCCESS

— Get a piece of paper

— Get sharpie pen

— Set up phone to record

— Count myself in and begin drawing

— Trim the actual clip so the empty space is cut out and the drawing fits snuggly into the 6 second mark.

— Airdrop the media into my computer

–Post into this textbox

And that was about it! It was a very easy and relaxing assignment that I would do again in a heartbeat!

Week 10 Video Assignments

Video Assignments    12 Stars                                           4 Stars

The assignment: You probably have watched at least one arts and crafts video in your life. Now is your chance to make your own! Record yourself making a fun arts and crafts project tutorial.

I did a tutorial on English Paper Piecing, it is my portable hand sewing project. It is easy to carry around with me because I keep it in a pencil box. This is just a small way for me to stay creative and it helps me to relax. Unfortunately , my school work keeps me from sewing as much as I would like to.

#SixSecondArt (Bead Art)                            2 Stars

The assignment:ix word stories, six word quotes, and six word poetry are all the rage.

I made a video of my Accuquilt Go. It cuts fabric all the same size, I use the different shapes to create quilts and other various projects. This machine cuts the shapes all the same and makes it easier to piece together. I cute out the apple core shape for a future quilt.

Second Film(Kids Joke)                       4 Stars

The assignment: Make a super short, 5-second film; basically enough time for one gag, bit, or joke. See examples (ALERT: Not G-rated, generally) at http://5secondfilms.com/. Or alternatively, try your hand at creating a 5 second version of a major movie.

I made my 5-second film G-rated because I am going to be a teacher and I don’t want my students to find something on the web that is no appropriate for children. Students these days are into technology and do searches on their teachers to see what they can find. Also, I shot this outside on a nice, fall, breezy day which was appropriate for my silly little joke.

My Favorite Thing To Do (Machine Embroidery)  2 Stars

In this assignment, make a video of yourself doing your favorite hobby for 30 seconds to 1 minutes. Post it to your blog and then describe what you are doing in the video and what makes this hobby your favorite thing to do in your spare time.

My spare time is very limited these days. Every chance I get, you can find me in my sewing room making something with my embroidery machine. This happens to be a key chain with a music note on it. Both of my girls play in the orchestra so music has a special place in our home.

6 second video…or is it a Boomerang?!

smile

So am I writing it? Erasing it? Both?? The world may never know…

Worth It

For my final assignment this week, I decided to make another stop motion video for the #SixSecondArt Assignment (2 stars). Six seconds of a stop motion video is a lot more than six pictures! I decided for my second stop motion video and for this assignment to use a quote. A quote was mentioned in the description, and I thought, why not use it in my art? I decided to draw a pretty quote on a journal page for the stop motion video. To find the quote, I first went to Pinterest to find one! I ended up using this one: “If it’s still in your mind, it is worth taking the risk.”

I love quotes and am starting to get into journaling, so this was fun! I decided to take a picture at each word or piece of the drawing. I first had to figure out how to secure my camera in one place… Last time I used my roommate’s plant hanger, which did not turn out great, so I wanted to try using something else. I ended up deciding on using my roommate’s vase (she loves her plants!) on our kitchen table. It was kind of hard, still, to keep the phone in place. I also realized looking back at the pictures that my hand shadow were on some of the images…

When I first tried to upload the pictures to the Stop Motion app, all of the pictures were on their side and cropped weird. I had to go through all of my pictures and edit their orientation, and then my phone adjusting the pictures more automatically, which is part of why the journal is not in the exact same spot for each image…. I was not sure how to prevent that. After adjusting all of the pictures, I uploaded them to the app. I was at about eight seconds instead of six, so I adjusted the speed until I got the video to be six seconds. I then uploaded it to YouTube straight from the app. Although it is not a perfect video, I enjoy it, and I am excited about what I can ultimately create with this as a starting place. I love using quotes in art!

6-Second Art

Here I tried to use my favorite chemistry pun to create  a six-second art video.

I tweeted the video:

The Making of Humpty Dumpty

This video is to fulfill video assignment #1925 entitled “#SixSecondArt.”  It is worth two stars.  The specification is to produce a six second video of a creation of art.

This assignment was chosen because it partly relates to the nursery rhyme character selected for the mid week assignment.  The video shows the construction of Humpty Dumpty, the nursery rhyme character who will be depicted in the alternate ending of a nursery rhyme video assignment.  This video was created and edited using the iMovie application on the Apple iPhone.  The original clip is forty two seconds long.  In order to shorten the length, the speed of the video was increased to 4x the original speed.  The sound effect called “cartoon ascending” was added to the background to indicate a rushed or hurried period of time.  The final product is eleven seconds in length.

Art in Six Seconds

For my first assignment I chose an art in 6 seconds assignment worth 4 stars. The directions were simple, make a 6 second video creating something.

I chose to create a fortune teller because I thought it was simple but nostalgic. I remember making these all the time when I was is middle school and I recently started making them again. Not necessarily filling them in, but I just thought of it like origami and I found it relaxing. I ended having a lot of trouble keeping to the rules though. Eve doing a hyperlapse video I still was not able to keep my video at six seconds. I will say that I finished the fortune teller itself within the six second mark, it was me taking the time to pop it open and show the finished product that pushed it over six so I still feel that I was successful in this assignment. I chose this assignment specifically because hyperlapse is one of my favorite thing to use in videos and this gave me the opportunity to do so. This assignment was fun and it was nice to take a trip down memory lane with this piece of “art”.
