Visual Assignment #1

I did the a-z photo collage assignment, worth 3 stars.

I focused on animals and when it came to the letters u and x I stretched it by using the scientific names sometimes.

here’s my photo collage:

a-zanimals

For photos of all the animals, I used Creative Commons images licensed for non-commercial use. I found them on both fotopedia and google. The animals A-Z are: alligator, baboon, cat, dog, elephant, fox, giraffe, horse, iguana, jellyfish, koala, lemur, manatee, newt, ocelot, penguin, quail, reindeer, sloth, turkey, ural owl, vulture, whale, xerus [ground squirrel], yak, and zebra. First I brainstormed the topic and then listed a-z, filling in the blanks of animals I already knew. Then, google came in handy for finding animals for the letters I couldn’t. I went to creativecommons.org and sub-searched fotopedia and google for the images I needed. I had downloaded Picasa on my computer, and made a folder for the images I was collecting with my pictures. I then imported my pictures into Picasa (available through google), which took all the pictures from the folder and put them into the same area. (For whatever reason, some of the photos I imported would not show up in Picasa,  I’m not sure why.) I then clicked make collage, and mosaic tiled the images. Then, I just clicked and dragged the images into alphabetical order. I saved the image once I had ordered it alphabetically and voila! uploaded it to flickr.

Mr. Seal’s Day Out

(“AJ William’s Buddy Photo.”  An assignment where you Find a little figurine or a stuffed animal that you can carry around with you. Use that “buddy” and take photos to document where you have gone together. ie: going out to lunch, going to the movies, etc. 2-stars/10)

We started off in Centralia (I have a weird list of places to see before I die, and they’re all just really random places I found really neat).  It smelled like the kiln shed and the ground was warm.  Then we went off to the Bloomsburg Fair.  Last year the Bloomsburg Fair was cancelled due to massive flooding. They had a half-fair during UMW‘s fall break. There was not a lot of vendors last year and the fairgrounds were soggy, so this year was a pleasant surprise when the fairgrounds were flooded with people.

Well, since I was excited for the fair and Mr. Seal had been around lately we decided to go to the fair along with some of my human friends.  We had a great time bonding because we haven’t really talked and we were really close when I was in preschool.  He’s a tiny little thing, but he’s cute.  I’m glad we got to spend time together.

Troll Quotes

Picture of Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, quote from Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and attributed to Larry Page, CEO of Google. The quote definitely sounds off for Jobs, and I think his fans would be thoroughly enraged to see someone else’s name on his photograph.

Splash of Color

cotton candy splash

This was visual assignment 340, Splash the Color.  I used the mac app Color Splash Smart to complete it.  My friends and I were in Cincinnati at a Reds game when this (should be) award winning piece of photography was taken.  This picture does not really have any sentimental value to me other than the fact that I just love it.  This was not too difficult to edit, the only trouble was trying to get the wisps of cotton candy on the bottom left.  I think it turned out pretty well though

Wedding Adventures caught mid action. Visual Assignment

This picture was taken at my friends wedding over the summer.  Sense I didn’t have a date  for the wedding at the time, I naturally chose to bring my best friend/ catcher.  Like most best friends we don’t dance naturally together and we like to goof off…. This picture is key to remind people that when you dance you must always LEAVE SPACE FOR JESUS…. When she went to dip me I thought she was going to drop me….clearly I have a lot of faith in her…but she didn’t drop me which was a nice little bonus. :)

To create this image, the picture was loaded onto my iphoto application and then uploading onto flickr to share with the public.

Unicorn exploded on my keyboard…Visual Assignment

This picture shows the new keyboard cover I got for my laptop.  It is soo colorful and I really enjoy having it.  It can be sometimes distracting but I am glad I got it. There isn’t much to write about when it comes to this blog, I just wanted to show how awesome the new keyboard cover I got was.

The first time I shared the image of my colorful keyboard was on twitter through a picture I took on my camera.  To share it with people outside of twitter, I downloaded the picture I uploaded to twitter onto iphoto. I then uploaded the picture onto flickr and tagged it with various tags to allow the public to see it.

Camp..Visual Assignment

I merged these two images together to represent camp.  The past three summers I have worked at a summer camp where I have been able to see some of my campers grow through the years.  I love the bonds that I make with both the kids and my co-counselors.  The image shows a 80s dress up day along with a pajama day that we had at camp.

To create this picture I used photovisi.com to merge the photos together and then downloaded it back into iphoto.  From iphoto I uploaded the merged image onto flickr where I tagged it with specified tags to allows for the public to see it.

Picture into a drawing… Visual Assignment

To turn this picture into a drawing I asked google to show me a website that would convert a picture to a drawing. I used a website called dumpr.net and sent the image to my iphoto application after it was converted.  After it was downloaded I uploaded it to flickr and tagged it with the appropriate tags.  The picture was taken my freshmen year in college one night.  The girl in the image was one of my best friends at the school I first attended.  This image brings back great memories that I made at the school and the friends that I made there.

Dreams that are coming true very soon…Visual Assignment

The collage shows the dreams that I am striving for that will come true very soon.  The first one is an image of a diploma.  In too soon of a time I will be graduating from Mary Washington with a degree in Chemistry and even possibly a second degree in Biology.  I have been working hard to complete this task and it is one dream that I will look forward to reaching in the near future.  The other image is of a picture that I took when I was on vacation, I would love to go back to that beach and plan to visit there again soon.

To create this collage I went onto the website photovisi.com and chose the templet for my collage.  I then uploaded the images from my computer onto the website.  Once that was completed I downloaded the collage onto my computer and onto iphoto.  The collage was then uploaded onto flickr and the appropriate tags were assigned and it collage was shared with the public.

Prepare for impact…..Visual Assignment

This picture always brings a smile to my face….even if it shows my friend and I colliding into each other.  In softball it is important to always call the ball…if you dont many times players collide and often one of them if not both get injured.  In this picture a ball was popped up into foul territory and both myself and the catcher went after the ball…..we both did not hear each other calling for the ball…so we collided.  The most important thing about this picture is that the ball was caught :) .  Another thing that came from this incident is the phrase “magical pitching bubble” which is now what I am confined to when a ball is popped up in foul territory.  I love my catcher and this image that was created, it brings back memories for the both of us.

To create this picture I used photovisi.com to merge the photos together and then downloaded it back into iphoto.  From iphoto I uploaded the merged image onto flickr where I tagged it with specified tags to allows for the public to see it.
