Draw it

babyme_sketch

I used the random spin wheel for this assignment. And I got Draw it! Here I took a picture of a picture that I have from my mom. Its of me sitting in a fridge. Long story… haha. So I uploaded this photo into Dumper. Here they automatically make whatever photo you upload into a sketch drawing. Very easy site to use.

Common Everyday Objects

items

I took a picture of some ordinary objects I use everyday, such as sunglasses, car keys, pens and pencils, my iphone, and a watch. Then I uploaded this picture on PicMoney. There is where I changed the color, saturation, temperature and sharpness of the photo.

Lord of the Obama

Just for fun, even though I’ve already done my 10 stars worth of Visual Assignments for the week, I decided to Obama-tize some photos. Specifically, some photos from Lord of the Rings. Because, hey, these assignments are fun, LotR is awesome (even though it isn’t the greatest film of all time, American Beauty, but you’ve heard my thoughts on that before), and Obama is awesome. So here they are:

I’m particularly proud of the second one. I really relied on my Photoshop skillz for that picture. What you see is the product of: masking, noise addition, Gaussian blur, pixel-selection-based curves manipulation, and brightness, over-exposure and a lens flare applied only to specific areas of Obama’s hair and hands to help him blend into the scene. You’d believe he was really there, right? (Okay, I can’t pretend my skills are actually that good. But a girl can dream.)

Albulm Cover

Coveralbulm

This was pretty simple, but exciting because you had no idea what title, band, or cover picture you were going to get. For this assignment I gathered all three items to make my album. After which I used PicMoney to create and edit my picture. I messed around with fonts and effects for the picture. The original picture was black and white. However, once I messed with the effects, I got to change the picture to orange.

Smoking Warhol

I didn’t have any good pictures of myself lying around, and didn’t want to do an obvious selfy, classy as they may be. So I dug around for a good picture from the greatest film of all time, American Beauty. There were many to choose from, but I finally settled on one of Janie and Angela smoking. It had a pseudo-edginess to it that I liked.

ImageYou can totally tell that they are scorning someone (in this case Ricky) and trying to be badasses at the same time. Because, you know, smoking always makes you a badass. Never mind the smell, the hacking cough, the emphysema and cancer. These are two cool chicks.

I then followed Melissa Evans’ tutorial on Warholifying your photos. It was tricky. I had to make a few changes to it – more out of annoyance with extra steps or steps that for whatever reason wouldn’t work for me. And in the Load Selection/painting/setting as a Screen somehow happened differently for the first set. I have no idea what happened, because I didn’t have to set the picture as a Screen but it still magically worked. And then I couldn’t reproduce whatever I had done for the other layers, and had to parse through her directions. Which were extremely clear, once I actually read them. And voilĂ ! A Warhol version of Janie and Angela smoking!

Normal to Extraordinary

Normal to ExTrAoRdInArY

We had a lot of fun with this picture. My friend loves to do her makeup, and usually takes hours getting ready so I thought I’d ask her to do this for me. We took paint and dripped it down her face. Set her up against the Eagle Landing courtyard fence and took a picture. Iv always been interested in paint and i just remember seeing famous portraits taken with paint so I decided to have fun and try. After I uploaded the picture I used a picture editing site called PicMonkey. Here I created a collage and uploaded a regular photo of her I had on my computer from her Facebook, and uploaded the picture I had taken. After which I saved it onto my computer where I uploaded the collage on Flickr.

Daikatana Band

Don’t know what Daikatana is? Me either. BUT, I did land on it randomly by doing my fourth visual assignment, “An Album Cover“. I think this is the coolest visual assignment I’ve done yet. Click the link and learn more if you want to make your own album cover! Here’s how I made mine.

Step 1. Click for the random Wikipedia page. This will be your band name. I got Daikatana:

Step 2. Get a random quote. The last few words of the last quote is your new band’s album title. I got the quote, “After all is said and done, a lot more will be said than done.”:

Step 3. You go to a Flickr link, and the third photo is now your album cover:

Now what you do is create an album cover with what you found and customize it to your hearts content! Once again, I’m not the biggest fan of GIMP, but it will do what you need it to and save you $600 instead of buying Adobe Photoshop…although I do love it =( Anyways, I created this album cover:I think this all goes together awesomely! Daikatana, not only is a first person shooter(according to wiki) but it makes me think “Die, Katana!” The picture goes well because the black and white, as well as the style of the building give  me an impression of an older/eerie feeling. Plus it’s deserted, like everyone died…(zombie apocalypse?) So then I have the witty quote left. Which I think is cool because if there was a zombie apocalypse, I feel more should be done than said…BUT THIS IS A MUSIC ALBUM SO IT ALL MAKES SENSE! More will be said BECAUSE they will sing! I put it in “Chiller” font to give it a creepier look.

I’m sorry if you don’t get it, but it makes PERFECT sense to me! And I had a blast doing it! Go create your own!

Splash that Color

Bartender

I took this picture downtown at Capital Ale. The bartender was pouring the beer and I thought it would be cool to see the flow of beer drop down into the glass. I asked the bartender and he was pleased to let me take a photo. I uploaded this into a free version of Photoshop. I learned how to do Color Splash on Photoshop from Youtube. This is the video I watched. It is very simple and easy!

Look What I Found!

ME!!! This is my third visual assignment and it was called “Find Yourself“. Sure, I probably could have been a little more creative in finding letters that spell R-O-B in the environment, but this place has a story with me. When I was growing up, my family used to play a game on car rides to find each members name on a store or such. My name NEVER came up. (I guess people named Rob or Robert aren’t big entrepreneurs) We would always see Mark, Bonnie, and Dan while driving around on the East Coast, but never a Rob. I kinda just figured there was no place named “Rob’s”. Glad I came to UMW/Fredericksburg AND that the owner(I’m assuming named Rob) opened this little gem! Now I know that there is at least one place that exists with my name!

Album Cover

full of doubts

For this assignment we were to design an album cover using some random information:

  • from wikpedia my band name was : OutlookSoft
  • from a random quotation page, my album title: “Full of Doubts”
  • from a random flickr page, my album cover is of a church.

I darken or desaturated the church by using a free photo-editing software called GIMP2.6. I added the text and that’s about it. I like the idea of a dark, ominous grand church being coupled with the title “Full Of Doubts”. I’m really happy how the two came together giving a sad, hard, possibly confused message which is often associated with church or God.  I find the group name ‘OutlookSoft’ as funny, maybe even fitting. I can see how the terms ‘outlook’, ‘doubts’, and ‘god’ can be associated together in terms of faith or destiny. This was an easy task, but I think I just lucked out with my random items. I could see how if others might not fit together and would require more editing.
